AgamemnonParticipantI don’t think it makes much difference in this case, although I mostly prefer the wait-and-prepare to the sink-or-swim. Once he is in there, he stays in there. If Keenum starts, he will at some point have a couple of bad games and then they will put Goff in. With a strong defense and run game, why not start the rookie?

The official roster seems correct. Check it out here: http://www.therams.com/team/roster.html
There might be more guys on ‘tryouts’, not sure. That stuff will sort out.
AgamemnonParticipantThe sad thing is Spruce and North look like they’re the best wrs on the roster already !
WR competition is wide open this year.

You really think the Rams will get rid of Mannion? Only Goff and Mannion are under contract past this year. It would make no sense for this or any FO to cut Mannion. imo

Former Tennessee safety Brian Randolph told reporters Tuesday that he was going to bench press 225 pounds 30 times and run the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds or better at Tennessee’s Pro Day.
Wednesday, he lived up to his own predictions. His 31 reps on the 225-pound bench press were nine more than any defensive back at the NFL Scouting Combine in February in Indianapolis and he ran a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. That was the fastest of any player at Pro Day and would have been the second-fastest time among safeties at the combine.
“I told y’all I was going to get a 4.4,” Randolph said. “I told y’all I was going to get 30 reps. That’s what happens.”
Wide receiver Marquez North, who surprised many by forgoing his senior season, improved on the 4.48-second time he ran at the combine by finishing in 4.42 seconds on Wednesday. Though he caught just six passes for 58 yards in an injury-shortened 2015 campaign, he is considered the UT player most likely to be taken in this year’s draft.
“I’m pretty happy with that,” North said. “Low 4.4s. … I just wanted to show people I could do it again.”
Defensive tackle Owen Williams bench-pressed 225 pounds 42 times, eight more than any player at the NFL combine. Offensive tackle Kyler Kerbyson got 32 reps on the bench and ran the 40 in 5.25, a solid time for his position.

Brian Randolph Shines at Vols Pro DayKNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Seventeen former Vols showcased their skills at Tennessee’s annual Pro Day on Wednesday at the Neyland-Thompson Sports Complex indoor field and weight room.
Tennessee’s 2016 Pro Day participants included Ralph David Abernathy IV, Max Arnold, Alex Ellis, Matt Giampapa, Jacob Gilliam, Pig Howard, Marcus Jackson, Johnathon Johnson, Kerbyson, Curt Maggitt, LaDarrell McNeil, Marquez North, Von Pearson, Brian Randolph, Trevarris Saulsberry, Chris Weatherd and Owen Williams.
All of the time marks in this report are unofficial.Randolph enjoyed a very impressive Pro Day, starting with 31 reps in the 225-pound bench press, which would have ranked first among all safeties at the 2016 NFL Combine and tied for seventh among all players. Randolph clocked the fastest 40-yard dash time of the day at 4.40, which would have been second among all safeties and tied for 10th among all players at the NFL Combine.
Marquez North improved on the strong 4.48 40-yard dash he ran at the NFL Combine, clocking a 4.42 on Wednesday. That time would have tied for third among all receivers at the combine.
AgamemnonParticipantNick Foles, QB, Rams
Despite his flaws, Foles is probably undervalued by the public because he’s so cheap. A team wanting to acquire Foles would have to pay only his $1.8 million base salary in a trade or the league minimum if the Rams chose to cut him. That opens up different windows. The Steelers could feasibly trade for Foles to back up the Ben Roethlisberger. The Cowboys could do the same in support of Tony Romo. Those teams just can’t afford Fitzpatrick. The Rams have zero leverage because teams know that they don’t want to keep Foles around as a third-stringer, and they’ve been unable to convince other organizations that they need to trade for the former Eagles starter to keep him off of the market. It’s most likely at this point that the Rams release Foles and he heads somewhere as an above-average backup for the minimum in 2016.

St. Louis Rams RB Trey Watts suspended four gamesBy Kevin Patra

Updated: May 29, 2015 at 04:16 p.m.The NFL announced Friday that St. Louis Rams running back Trey Watts has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2015 regular season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Watts, 24, saw just 14 snaps in the backfield in 2014, earning 30 yards on seven carries. He mainly participated on special teams in 14 games, compiling five tackles.
With the addition of rookie Todd Gurley to the Rams backfield, it’s unlikely that Watts would provide any depth outside of special teams play and could struggle to make the roster.
Watts can participate in all offseason activities and preseason games.
The second-year tailback is eligible to return to the Rams’ active roster on Monday, October 5 following the team’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.

AgamemnonParticipantRams pick up fifth-year options on Tavon Austin, Alec Ogletree
The Rams are focused on getting a contract extension done with Alec Ogletree, who will move to middle linebacker in 2016. AP Nick WagonerESPN Staff WriterLOS ANGELES — One was a sure thing. The other was a bit more complicated. But in the end, the Los Angeles Rams decided to pick up the fifth-year option on both of their 2013 first-round draft picks, linebacker Alec Ogletree and receiver Tavon Austin, a league source confirmed Monday.
The deadline to pick up the options, which ensure that 2013 first-round picks will remain under team control through the 2017 season, was Monday afternoon.
For the Rams, exercising the option on Ogletree was a no-brainer given the relatively low cost of the option and his performance to this point in his career. The decision on Austin was more difficult because, as a top-10 pick, his fifth-year option is more expensive and his production thus far hasn’t been commensurate to that price.
It’s also worth noting that the fifth-year options are only guaranteed for injury so players with options picked up now could theoretically be released before the start of the next league year when the money becomes guaranteed.
As the No. 30 overall pick in his class, Ogletree is only due the average of the third-through-25th highest salaries at his position. That means Ogletree would be due $8.369 million for the 2017 season. That’s a high price but not an outrageous one for a player who led the team in tackles his first two seasons and was an early Pro Bowl candidate before suffering a season ending injury in Week 4 last season.
This year, Ogletree is moving to middle linebacker, where he’ll have a chance to become more of a team leader and focal point for coordinator Gregg Williams’ group. And, of course, just because the Rams exercised his option doesn’t mean they won’t try to get a contract extension done with him before he’d play under it.
The Rams and Ogletree’s representatives have had some conversations to that end this offseason. Getting a contract extension done with Austin would actually make even more sense than it would for Ogletree, since it would prevent the Rams from having to pay a premium that Austin’s numbers wouldn’t normally yield.
Since Austin went No. 8 overall in the 2013 draft, he would cost the average of the top-10 receivers in the NFL (or the same as the transition tag), according to NFL rules. For frame of reference, the transition-tag price for a receiver this year was $12.268 million. Barring a major breakout in 2016, that is well above what Austin’s production (to this point in his career) should garner.
But a league source said last week that the Rams were “leaning toward” exercising Austin’s option with the idea of securing his services and hammering out a contract in the meantime. That would be the plan now that the option has been picked up.
At February’s combine, general manager Les Snead said the Rams would like to keep Austin in the fold.
“What he brings to the table as a weapon on offense and what our coaches can do… and we’ve hired a couple of new coaches and they come in to the building with excitement because of what they think he can do to help your team,” Snead said. “And also on special teams. He’s a valuable piece. He’s an offensive weapon so we’ll try to figure [that] out. He’s somebody we want for the future.”
Either way, the Rams have made a point of drafting and developing their own players and now they find themselves needing to keep those players around for the long-term.
“We would like to do that,” Snead said. “You know the philosophy is to draft, develop and re-sign your own core group of guys. So there’s some guys following this class that we’d like to get done as well over the next few months.”

AgamemnonParticipantI group TEs, WRs, and RBs together. I want to keep a total of 14(keeping 10 oline means that is probably 13). Of course, there is a minimum number for each position. But, in my counting, it isn’t important where I place Tavon. Although, in my mind he is almost more of a RB, if anything. A RB who runs some WR routes. imo Just as some TEs could almost be thought of as big Wrs and what exactly is an H-back. 😉

The Tennessean’s Adam Sparks confirmed the news early on Sunday morning.

— Adam Sparks (@AdamSparks) May 1, 2016
Herring recorded 226 career tackles (11 for loss) as a Commodore and was one of the team’s leaders on and off the field. He never missed a game at Vanderbilt, breaking into the team’s defensive rotation as a true freshman and developing into a starter one season later. He’s a versatile defender who can be helpful against both the pass and the run. This seems legit. But, according to my count we already have 90 on the roster. So, we would have to cut somebody to add him, but who?
