“He’s a once in a lifetime type player,” — Matt LaFleur on Aaron Donald. “We have to be well aware where he ends up and account for him at all times.”

Pick a player to start a franchise with:
    🔹 Aaron Donald
    🔹 Davante Adams
    🔹 Jalen Ramsey
    🔹 Jaire Alexander

I want the Rams to cheat and pick 2 players.

Getting many Goff/McVay questions today, and it’s not sexy but my *opinion* is this: JG said outright that he was not thrilled he didn’t start, which is his right as a competitor, and SM said he made the decision based on functionality of thumb, which is his right as a coach.

Now, has there been frustration this year in spurts (even in rare public comment, as we saw and covered)? Yep, that has been documented. I just hesitate to draw any sweeping conclusions from moments that are parts to a whole relationship, between 2 people who don’t agitate easy.

Floyd was a high end pick who hadn’t lived up to his billing. In this scheme and under this staff he finally did. Now he’s grown into a monster.

Fowler was a plus blindside edge rusher for us. Floyd has been elite. He is a difference maker in the run game and moves all over and gets consistent pressure now in the passing game too. He’s also rangy and routinely drops and covers in the flats with good result. You’re talking about an all-around stud here.

Problem of course is what we’re seeing on film is something teams are willing to pay big bucks for. But it’s also something we probably won’t find on the cheap again. We might hit on a one year rental again but not like we just did with Floyd. This season he’s having is special he has given us a third difference maker on that side of the ball. With him and Williams we basically have 4 guys who you know are going to make 3 to 5 plays a game and that starts adding up quick which is why our defense has been so potent.

If we staggered the high pay out contracts correctly, we might be able to keep him.

I love Floyd (Pink & Leonard) and he is great for this system.

But he still doesn’t look like a typical pass rusher to me. I think he would be disappointing for most teams. It will be interesting to see what kind of contract he gets this off season.

Fowler, btw, underwhelmed with THREE sacks in 14 games this year!

Aaron Donald got a weight room workout in today. The Rams will otherwise rest him as much as possible this week.

Per Sean McVay, “The Terminator will be ready.”

LaFleur calls Staley’s defense a really well-thought-out scheme, tough to diagnose coverages etc., which gets even more complicated to oppose when factoring in talent level.

“This is a legit, real-deal defense.”

Matt LaFleur says, even with the rib injury, that Aaron Donald is “a freak. He is as good as they get. He is a once-in-a-lifetime type player. I assume he will be ready to go, and full speed ahead. I know the way this guy prepares…he can change a game if you allow him to.”

Brandon Staley says the Rams are “still working through” whether Jalen Ramsey will shadow Davante Adams.

But…Ramsey has largely shadowed true No.1 WRs all season, other than certain schematic wrinkles, even when they can be moved in the slot, where he has also played in Star.

“Aubrey Pleasant is one of the elite coaches in this league,” Rams DC Brandon Staley on CB coach Aubrey Pleasant when asked how he’s impacted Jalen Ramsey’s play

Dear lord. Green Bay is first in EPA/play, first in Dropback EPA and fourth in Rush EPA. I knew their O was amazing, didn’t realize they were that good.

If the Rams defense can stifle them at all, might it be time to start talking about them as one of the best D’s of the decade?

    10 games
    7 elite WRs
    22 catches
    235 yards
    1 TD

Jalen Ramsey was insanely good against top WRs this season.

    Hill-10
    Jackson-10
    Wentz-10 (12 games)

    Cousins-9
    Hurts- 9
    Murray-9
    Herbert-8
    Lock-8

Cam Akers is going to be “really special,” according to Andrew Whitworth.

He explained why he’s so bullish on the rookie RB on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday. “He’s a guy that didn’t really play in the same system that we’re running here and has adapted as the year has gone on and has learned a lot about being an NFL runner. It’s one of those things that just takes time and patience for those guys sometimes. I really think he’s done nothing but continue to grow every opp he’s had throughout this season and I think he’s going to be really special.”

Rams college scouting director Brad Holmes seems likely to land the Falcons or Lions GM job, which would hurt the Rams.

BUT, they would get two third-round compensatory picks if he does leave

    They would get a third-rounder in 2021 and another third-rounder in 2022

But would two mid-round picks really replace the value that Holmes brings? He’s been the director of college scouting for the last eight years and helped identify players such as Aaron Donald, Todd Gurley, Rob Havenstein and John Johnson. Jordan Fuller was another quality pick under Holmes, showing his propensity for identifying Day 3 talents.

Ramsey vs Adams is going to be so fun. Think Adams can get him off the release but Ramsey had the athletic ability to recover. Going to be a back and forth battle.

    Jon Ledyard@LedyardNFLDraft
Seems relevant since the Packers have the best red zone offense basically ever

2020 Rams RZ defense at home: 29.2% TD conversion rate allowed, by FAR best in the NFL

2020 Rams RZ defense on the road: 91.3% TD conversion rate allowed, by FAR worst in the NFL

    CBS Sports HQ@CBSSportsHQ
Aaron Rodgers is 0-4 in his last 4 starts when facing a team with the No. 1 ranked total defense.

The Rams are No. 1 in total defense, scoring defense and passing defense.

Jalen Ramsey has 581 coverage snaps during the regular season.

He allowed the fewest receiving yards (309) in coverage of the 33 @NFL corners with 500+ snaps (per @PFF).

    Peter Bukowski@Peter_Bukowski
Why the #Rams are so tough:

    – They play almost exclusively zone but let Jalen Ramsey shadow No. 1’s in man by himself at times

    – They play the most Cover-3 of any coverage but play the most Cover-4 in the NFL

    – No one plays lighter boxes but they have a top-5 run D.

    WTF
