Rapp on Johnson:
“J.J. is such a good player and he really doesn’t get the praise or respect he deserves, but just expect a big year from him this year,” he said. “He’s been working and rehabbing every day and he’s itching to get back more than ever. He’s a very versatile player. I think he can do everything a coach can ask a Safety to do on a defense. He can play deep, he can match up any tight end, he can drop down, he can play in the box, he can play linebacker, he can really do everything.”

When I’ve spoken with NFL people – especially OL coaches – at some point the topic turns to “How do you have the tackles?”
I’ve got:
1. J. Wills
2. M. Becton
T3. A. Thomas
T3. T. Wirfs5. Josh Jones
T6. I. Wilson
T6. Austin Jackson

DEFINITIVE TRAIT/STYLE: Snead and his staff have a clear vision of what they are looking for at each position, and they value building a true team, not collecting talent. It’s imperative that coaches communicate what type of players are useful, so scouts can identify them leading up to the draft. Snead is flexible and able to adapt his method when necessary; he often stays ahead of the curve when the NFL changes or the Rams change coordinators and/or schemes. He has also been aggressive when necessary (e.g. trading up for the first overall pick to get Goff).

Football Outsiders ranked the Rams’ ST units 23rd out of 32 teams last year.
[ https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/special-teams/2019 ] Hekker and Zuerlein had bad years. I imagine we all expect Hekker to rebound. I think Rams will draft their new kicker late, and while it’s NOT reasonable to expect a rookie kicker to be awesome, I don’t expect him to do worse that GZ did last year. The new ST coach, Bonamego, brings a pretty nice special teams resume to the job.April 13, 2020 at 12:56 pm #113596znModeratorAndy Benoit@Andy_Benoit
Last time we had no offseason team work (2011 lockout year), 7 teams had new coaching staffs. Four of those teams won at least 4 more games in 2011 than they did in 2010.April 14, 2020 at 2:22 am #113616znModeratorWhat was the best Rams team to never win a championship? Carolina’s Christian McCaffrey is signing a four-year extension, averaging $16 million per year, making him the highest-paid running back in NFL history, sources tell ESPN.Frank Schwab@YahooSchwab
“Paying a RB is a mistake, but McCaffrey is different.”That’s the thing. Often when a star RB gets a big deal, we think they’re the outlier and they will pay off. And the truth is, the success rate on recent RB contracts is shockingly bad.

The NFL and NFLPA have reached agreement on a voluntary offseason program for 2020, starting next Monday, April 20, per sources. The “virtual period” can begin next Monday, April 20, but — this is key — no on-field work until all 32 club facilities can reopen.Key language there: Club facilities will only open in accordance with NFL protocols and federal, state and local rules and regulations. If one or more club facilities must remain closed for any period of time, *all* club facilities must remain closed during that period

No matter how many teams win without spending heavy at the running back position, y’all are going to keep arguing about the importance of that position. It’s interesting. All the data, evidence and results are right in front of you.teams with above average quarterbacks have realized paying running backs isn’t important, and have focused on other positions to help the QB and/or the defense
Adrian Peterson was drafted into a different NFL. I wouldn’t draft him in the first round in today’s NFL.
I was on the 2012 team where AP ran for 2000 yards. It was remarkable. Incredible to watch… We played a playoff game with Joe Webb and scored 3 points. The entire time AP was in Minny, the one year they had a chance to win, Favre was the QB.

Rams projected to receive two compensatory picks in 2021 draftAccording to Over the Cap — https://overthecap.com/compensatory-draft-picks-cancellation-chart/#nfc-west-2021 — the Rams are projected to be awarded two compensatory picks in 2021: a third-rounder for Fowler and a fourth for Littleton. The Rams also lost Greg Zuerlein, but their addition of A’Shawn Robinson canceled that seventh-rounder out.

15. Los Angeles Rams
Depth chart: Jared Goff, John Wolford
Despite the fact that I’m clearly favoring Wentz here, I don’t think Goff is a lost cause after a pedestrian showing in Super Bowl LIII and a hot-and-cold 2019. The Rams still have one of the best offensive minds in football calling the shots and, in a slightly different world, the Rams could have inched into the playoffs and done some damage this past winter.

The Rams hold an option to restructure Jared Goff’s contract to create short-term cap space. It’s written in. There’s no negotiation involved but there still would be a discussion. And, of course — again for the people in the back — a simple restructure is not a pay cut.there’s really no negative for the player. As Jared said today, it’s all the same to him. He likely just gets that money up front rather than in 17-week increments.
