Russell Wilson has been historically great lately

The numbers Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has put up the past four games are like something out of a video game. He’s 89-for-118 (completing 75 percent of his passes), with 16 touchdowns and no interceptions after a five-touchdown game in a rout of the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

    Historic effort

Wilson became the first quarterback in Seahawks history to have a pair of games with at least five touchdown passes in the same season. He’s also the first Seahawks quarterback to throw at least three touchdown passes in four straight games.

The Elias Sports Bureau notes that Wilson is one of only three quarterbacks in the Super Bowl era to have a four-game span with at least 16 touchdown passes and no interceptions in NFL history (the other two are Tom Brady in 2007 and Peyton Manning in 2013). Wilson is also the first QB to have four straight games with three touchdown passes, no interceptions and a 70 percent completion percentage.

    Change in approach

The Seahawks changed their approach a little bit the past four games, but on shorter routes. The average pass to a wide receiver went nearly 13 yards beyond the line of scrimmage in Weeks 1-10, but only eight yards in Weeks 11-13. In Week 14, Wilson’s passes went 10.6 yards beyond the line of scrimmage, largely due to the 49-yard touchdown pass he threw to Tyler Lockett in the fourth quarter.

Wilson has been outstanding in throwing to Doug Baldwin. During the past four games, he has completed 23 of 28 passes to Baldwin for 381 yards and eight touchdowns.

Wilson averaged 11.7 yards downfield on passes to Baldwin in the first 10 weeks of the season before shortening that to 5.4 the next three weeks. Sunday, he went back to intermediate looks, averaging 11.2.

Elias notes that Baldwin is the first player with eight receiving touchdowns in a three-game span since Drew Bennett in 2004 (the last before Bennett was Jerry Rice in 1987 and 1993).

49ers’ Alex Boone expected to miss final three games

    http://www.theredzone.org/BlogDescription/tabid/61/EntryId/53634/49ers–Alex-Boone-expected-to-miss-final-three-games/Default.aspx

Still stinging from a humiliating defeat in Cleveland, the 49ers learned Monday that a knee injury will likely prevent left guard Alex Boone from returning this season, Daniel Brown of the San Jose Mercury News reports.

“A huge blow,” left tackle Joe Staley said, “I’ve been right next to Alex all year and he’s done a great job for us. … It’s a bummer situation for him to go down at the end of the year.”The 49ers did not announce the official results of Boone’s MRI exam, but a league source said it’s an MCL issue that, while not devastating, should be enough to keep Boone off the field for the team’s final three games.San Francisco’s offensive line already looked overmatched in a 24-10 loss to the lowly Cleveland Browns on Sunday, a defeat so listless that even 49ers players questioned their effort level.
