    FILLING UP

The Rams brought their roster to 89 players, one short of the training-camp maximum, when they signed four free agents: running back De’Mard Llorens, offensive lineman Parker Collins and linebackers Andy Mulumba and Folarin Orimolade.

The Rams also worked out free-agent quarterbacks Thursday but didn’t sign them, and will go into camp with only three quarterbacks: Goff, Sean Mannion and Dan Orlovsky.

Also TE Johnny Mundt was placed on Active/PUP and DT
Omarius Bryant, DB Dominique Hatfield, OL Alex Kozan, CB Aarion Penton on Active/NFIN.

    Active/PUP and Active/NFI

Active/PUP relates to players who are unable to start training camp due to a football-related injury. Active/NFI is related to an injury that’s non-football related, though it’s really just any injury sustained in either offseason workouts or a previous college injury, such as John Ross needing shoulder surgery as a result of an injury sustained in college. There are no rules governing the Active/PUP and Active/NFI players to sit out of practice for any designated amount of time. Once they are medically cleared to practice, they’re allowed to practice at that moment.

At this point, any mention of PUP you’re seeing around the NFL refers to the Active/PUP. This list enables players to eventually become eligible for the other PUP list, but it also allows players to come off PUP at any moment in training camp or the preseason. The same goes for Active/NFI designation.

    HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6-2 / 292 | 40: 5.10 | DRAFT YR:2017
    Rankings

    Bio:
Three-year starter who earned First Team All-Sun Belt honors as a center in 2016. Started 13 games at left guard as a junior. Made seven starts at left guard in 2014 and was named Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt.
    Pos:
Smallish but hard-working lineman who gets the most from his ability. Displays outstanding vision, blocks with a nasty attitude and works through the whistle. Fires off the snap into blocks, stays square and shows explosiveness at the point. Effective with the shotgun snap, seals opponents from the action and plays smart football.
    Neg:
Lacks bulk and strength at the point and gets minimal movement run blocking. Average skill blocking in motion for a smaller lineman.
    Analysis:
Collins was a hard-working blocker on the college level who did a good job at both center and guard. He leads by example and shows terrific football intelligence, which could make him a serviceable backup.

App State alum Parker Collins signs with NFL’s Los Angeles Rams

BOONE – Former Appalachian State offensive lineman Parker Collins arrived in California this week to take part in a Los Angeles Rams tryout Wednesday. On Thursday, he signed a contract that will enable him to participate in the team’s training camp.

Collins and three other players signed with the Rams, who will hold their first practice of camp Saturday in Irvine, Calif. Their roster is currently at 89 players, one short of the camp maximum.

A rookie offensive guard and center, Collins signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent but was released last month to make room for offensive lineman Demetrius Rhaney, who was claimed off waivers from the Rams.

Collins was App State’s starting left guard for two seasons before filling a void at center as a senior.

    .

Collins seems stouter than Rhaney. Rhaney might have more speed? This gives them a practice squad player?

    FILLING OUT THE ROSTER

The Rams announced the signing of four players Thursday, bringing them within one player of a full 90-man training camp roster.

Two of the players, running back De’Mard Llorens and linebacker Folarin Orimolade, were with the team during its rookie camp in May.

Outside linebacker Andy Mulumba and offensive lineman Parker Collins are new faces. Mulumba played 22 games across three seasons for Green Bay. Collins is a 6-foot-2, 305-pound rookie from Appalachian State.

The Rams also worked out a few free-agent quarterbacks Thursday, but decided to start camp with three players at the position: Jared Goff, Sean Mannion and Dan Orlovsky, who was signed earlier this week.

“Dan will be our third and we will only go into camp with three,” Snead said.

Additionally, tight end Johnny Mundt was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list and defensive tackle Omarius Bryant, defensive back Dominique Hatfield, offensive lineman Alex Kozan and cornerback Aarion Penton were placed on the Active/Non-Football Injury list.

“We are working through some of those,” Snead said. “There is always a few that do and some, let’s call it for legitimate injury reasons, some for not doing as well on the conditioning test.”
