PHOENIX — The St. Louis Rams coaching staff has expanded by one though this one doesn’t come with the fancy title of offensive coordinator, assistant head coach/offense or even quarterbacks coach.
The fourth, and probably final, coaching move of the offseason involves the addition of Jeff Imamura to a post tentatively titled as defensive assistant. Imamura will likely be asked to do a variety of different tasks for coordinator Gregg Williams moving forward after he spent last season working with linebackers and in football operations at Minot State University.
Imamura does come to the Rams with some NFL experience, though. Before last year, he spent plenty of time working for the Minnesota Vikings, also as a defensive assistant. According to the Vikings official website, Imamura began working for Brad Childress in 2006 and stayed with the franchise through the end of Leslie Frazier’s tenure in 2013.
It’s expected that Imamura will take on an all-encompassing role for the Rams where he’ll do a little bit of everything. Rams coach Jeff Fisher said the addition of Imamura will not come with a corresponding move so Imamura is simply an addition to the staff.
“Basically we added Jeff because we thought he would be a good fit,” Fisher said. “He’s more of an analytical quality control coach. We did not let anybody go. He was an addition.”
