IRVINE, Calif. — Los Angeles Rams defensive end Robert Quinn is in Rio de Janeiro, getting ready to watch his sister, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, compete in the Summer Olympics.

Camacho-Quinn, 19, took first in her heat in the opening round of the 100-meter hurdles, automatically qualifying for the semifinals on Wednesday afternoon. While representing Puerto Rico, her mother’s home country, the University of Kentucky freshman ran the race in 12.70 seconds, third overall among the six heats.

Quinn approached Rams coach Jeff Fisher about the possibility of watching his sister in the Olympics earlier this summer, and Fisher agreed weeks ago to excuse him from practice if she reached the later stages. Fisher expects Quinn to return in time to practice with the team and play in Saturday’s exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Camacho-Quinn’s semifinal race will take place at 4:45 p.m. PT, and she would then run again at 6:55 if she advances.

Fisher called this “a once in a lifetime opportunity” for Quinn.

“It’s really a neat thing for Rob and his family. It’s the right thing to do, to let him go down there.”
