I still see it debated out there–does a good qb improve OL play (by getting rid of the ball, playing in rhythm, etc)? Does bad OL play bring a qb down?
Rams fans have seen it…it really is both. Yes absolutely line problems bring qbs down. I think most people HERE know that.
But it’s also interesting to see dramatic examples. Just compare Flacco and Eli last year and this year, for example. In both cases, the OL fell apart in 2013; in both cases, the team went out of its way to upgrade OL play for 2014.
Flacco 2013 qb rating 73.1, TD% 3.1%, INT% 3.6%, Sack percentage 7.3% (s% ranked 24th)
Flacco 2014 qb rating 91.0, TD% 4.9%, INT% 2.2%, Sack percentage 3.3% (s% ranked 3rd)
Eli 2013 qb rating 69.4, TD% 3.3%, INT% 4.9%, Sack percentage 6.6% (s% ranked 17th)
Eli 2014 qb rating 92.1, TD% 5.0%, INT% 2.3%, Sack percentage 4.5% (s% ranked 11th)
