What’s the timeline for the state lawsuit to get thrown out ?
by Terry 2:03 PMYou’re assuming a result there. But I think it’s on an any-day basis from what I’ve been told.
by jthomas 2:03 PMThanks for the chats! Does yesterday’s court ruling change your percentage as far as staying/going at all?
by steve r 2:03 PMIn fact, we have adjusted our Rams stay-Rams go percentage to 45-55, from the previous 43-57.
by jthomas edited by Mike Smith 2:04 PMUpdated relocation odds?
by Schallm 2:04 PM45-55. Up 2 points.
by jthomas 2:04 PMJim – First thing I thought when I saw the court verdict, “What will this do to Jim’s stay-go percentages?”
by McGarrett 2:04 PMYou bring a smile to my face. 45-55. (We had been stuck at 43-57 for quite some time.)
by jthomas 2:05 PMJim, Welcome back from vacation. A query that goes back a few weeks involves the supplemental draft. Was Battle not eligible for the May draft? And why could he not be signed as a free agent? Does he count against the cap this year? Is he eligible to play this year? Thanks for all you do.
by Larry M 2:05 PMYes, he counts against the cap. Yes he’s eligible to play this year. I believe he was eligible for the draft but did not declare. Since he did not declare, and had college eligibility left, he could not be signed as a free agent.
by jthomas 2:07 PMWhich 3-5 upcoming free agents do you think the Rams prioritize the most?
by Garrett 2:07 PMIn terms of their own free agents? Foles, Jenkins I think are 1 and 1A. I think McLeod and Quick rank up there pretty high as well.
by jthomas 2:08 PMIf the Rams stay and build a new stadium, what happens to the Edward Jones Dome? Is it torn down? Just stay as a convention center?
by Garrett 2:08 PMNo, it stays as a convention center. And being used year-round for conventions means it will bring in additional income (and visitors) to the region.
by jthomas edited by Mike Smith 2:09 PMHow’s fan attendance at the pre-season practices compared to last year? I was out on Saturday and thought the turnout was good!
by Brian@stormwaterprostl.com 2:09 PMAttendance has been very similar to the first few days of camp last season. The Rams have drawn between 1,200 and 1,500 spectators each of the first three days. In pretty hot weather conditions.
by jthomas 2:10 PMWhat has to happen for Isaiah Pead to make the roster?
by John 2:11 PMWell, he’s aided by the fact that Trey Watts begins the year suspended, and Todd Gurley isn’t ready to play. But there’s also Tre Mason, Benny Cunningham, and Chase Reynolds.to contend with _ who all seem to be safe bets on the final 53. (Reynolds of course because of his special teams value.) Gurley will take up a roster spot (Watts won’t for the 4-week suspension.) But the Rams also have some interesting rookie free agents at running back in Malcolm Brown, Terrence Franks, and Zach Laskey. So Pead needs to have a good camp and preseason.
by jthomas 2:14 PMAs a lifelong NFL fan in my 70’s, I struggle to justify buying tickets to the Rams when the odds are stacked against them to stay in the Lou. Regardless, I refuse to support a greedy billionaire owner who cares little about his fan base. When will this soap opera end?
by Kudzu 2:14 PMWe should have a pretty good idea by the end of fthis calendar year.
by jthomas 2:15 PMWith the Rams talking an extension with Jenkins & having Joyner, Gaines, Roberson, & McGee signed for at least 2 more years at a lower cost, is Trumaine gone after this season?
by Garrett 2:15 PMNot necessarily. McGee can’t seem to stay healthy, so he’s far from a sure thing in terms of making the final roster.
by jthomas 2:16 PMWho is leading the #2 QB battle, who is getting more reps?
by Dan in Denver 2:16 PMCase Keenum seems to be getting many more reps with the 2s than Austin Davis so far. And that seemed to be the case during the OTAs as well.
by jthomas 2:16 PMFast forward: Rams build stadium and stay in STL and Stan remains owner. What stops Stan from 10 years down the road complaining about the outdated stadium and demanding to leave again? I understand the issue with the Dome and the top 25%…..but why would it be any different in 10 years, minus the obvious 25% clause?
by Ramtastic1 2:16 PMJust a hunch, but I don’t think the new stadium lease will include any “first-tier” language.
by jthomas 2:17 PMSo far in camp, who has looked the best at center?
by Gladdy 2:17 PMToo early to tell. Only three full-squad practices so far. And none in pads. Today’s the first day in pads for the full squad.
by jthomas 2:18 PMIs this finally the year Barrett Jones finally breaks out and becomes a starter on the O-line?
by David 2:18 PMIt’s certainly possible this year. I think he might be the slight favorite to win the job.
by jthomas 2:19 PMAs someone who isn’t from the area, explain the thinking of St. Louis in 1992 when they were essentially “throwing the farm” to get an NFL team. It is almost laughable to what they agreed to pay in building the Trans World Dome.
by Garrett 2:19 PMNo doubt. It all boils down to desperation. The Rams had a stadium one-third of the way built when the expansion effort fell apart. So St. Louis had a $300 million tractor pull facility. But I still wouldn’t have given in on the “top tier” or “first tier” clause. “Top half” maybe. But not top 8. (And just FYI, it was 1994-95 when all that happened in terms of the lease negotiations.)
by jthomas 2:22 PMGiven the past history of Rams team support in LA what makes NFL owners confident that LA will support two teams?
by Kudzu 2:22 PMThat’s a great question, isn’t it
by jthomas 2:23 PMIf the NFL says “no move” to Enos, do you think he shops the Rams to new owners ?
by rammadammado 2:23 PMHard to predict, but I think he is more likely to go rogue and just try to move if that’s the case. (As opposed to shopping the team.)
by jthomas 2:24 PMChargers stay in SD, Rams go to LA, Raiders come to StL, losing continues, Rams become good in LA. That a dream or a nightmare?
by SicilyFitz 2:24 PMA little of both.
by jthomas 2:24 PMGiven how much the Rams paid to retain him, how much more can Lance Kendrick’s role increase in the offense?
by Dave 2:25 PMThey’ve mentioned they’d like to try to get him the ball more often. But there are only so many footballs to go around and there’s Cook, Austin, Quick, Britt, etc. to take care of as well. So it’s not like we’re gonna see Kendricks jump up to 55-60 catches.
by jthomas 2:26 PMWhen the switch flip from “Rams dont know how to use Tavon Austin” to “Tavon Austin just figure it out in the NFL”?
by Dave 2:26 PMThis could be the year.
by jthomas 2:27 PMWhat used to be where Dave Peacock/Bob Blitz/task force are planning to put a new stadium? Looked like a ghost town when I was there before.
by Dave 2:27 PMIt’s been a blighted area for years.
by jthomas 2:27 PMHow much will an empty stadium impact the owners decision to allow Kronke to move the Rams?
by Kudzu 2:27 PMHard to quantify, but obviously it helps Kroenke’s cause.
by jthomas 2:28 PMAs a so cal person I think it is more important to the league to be successful here than there. The rams have more potential to be successful here than the raiders or chargers…believe me on that. That is why the rams are coming home.
by robert 2:28 PMWe’ll see.
by jthomas 2:28 PMJT, I know it’s very early in camp, but is there anyone who has caught your eye? Someone you want to watch in pre-season games?
by Axeburger 2:29 PMMarcus Roberson has looked strong. Very curious of course to see Foles in a Rams uniform. Same with Case Keenum. And Sean Mannion. Maurice Alexander supposedly has made a lot of strides. Trumaine Johnson has had a good offseason supposedly. Martin Ifedi. Can Lamarcus Joyner step up. That’s just a few.
by jthomas 2:32 PMAny chance Jenkins gets an extension before the season starts?
by steve r 2:32 PMSorry brief delay to catch up w/Randy Karraker in media room. I think there is a chance on Jenkins. Rams are working towards it.
by jthomas 2:45 PMHey Jim. Are you hearing anything to suggest that Stan might like what the task force is putting together, and “come to the table?” Or do you honk any chance that the Rams stay in Stl will come down to the owners denying him th right to move to LA? Thanks
by Tom 2:46 PMHaven’t heard anything about Kroenke coming to table. I
by jthomas 2:47 PMI am finding all of the relocation talk, use of our tax dollars, and the lack of communication from the owner as a major distraction from a fan standpoint. My question is how are you able to isolate all those factors and report on this team day in and day out. Thanks…
by Rams113 2:47 PMWell, it helps to have David Hunn of our city side staff reporting on most of the stadium stuff.
by jthomas 2:47 PMWill Benny Cunningham have a role after Gurley is back in action? Really liked what he was able to do with his opportunities last year.
by Joe 2:47 PMYou would think Cunningham might get squeezed out. Because there are only so many carries to go around. Yeah, I too, like what Cunningham brings too the table.
by jthomas 2:49 PMHey Jim love your chats since the court said no vote what are the following steps to getting a stadium in stl
by Anthony123 2:49 PMThe next steps, not necessarily in this order: Resolve the Cole County lawsuit. Complete land assembly on stadium site. Complete financing package. Continue to lobby owners.
by jthomas 2:50 PMWhat do you think LeMarcus Joyner’s role with the team is this season? Slot guy? Roaming safety type? Or does he just lose playing time because of Gaines & Barron?
by Garrett 2:50 PMAt this point, Joyner’s still the No. 1 candidate for the starting nickel back job.
by jthomas 2:50 PMSo why do you still lean towards the Rams leaving?
by Brad 2:50 PMWell, there’s still work to be done on land assembly and financing. Still a lawsuit out there. And we still don’t know how the league will come down on this.
by jthomas 2:52 PMwhere is the naming rights money that peacock refuses to include in his stadium financing plan? you know, the way the 49ers used that money to finance levi stadium in order to minimize what was necessary to seek from the taxpayers? does peacock expect to continue to set aside that probable $6-$8 million for kroenke to put in his pocket as he does now?
by branford76 2:53 PMNaming rights money usually go to the team owner.
by jthomas 2:53 PMStanK orchestrated the current stadium soap opera with a ridiculous proposal he knew was unworkable for the CVC. Does this fact mean anything to the NFL or owners group in making a decision on the Rams moving?
by Kudzu 2:54 PMDo you mean the proposed $700 million stadium “upgrade” at the dome? It actually was a pretty reasonable proposal. The problem, however, was that it would have put the dome out of commission for a couple of years. I don’t think it has any bearing on the decision-making.
by jthomas 2:56 PMI have mixed emotions on the judges ruling…I feel like it’s being forced on us…but I’m glad he ruled that way. Realistically, however, do think it really changes much?
by jt 2:56 PMWhile a part of me says “why not have a vote?” I realize time is of the essence in this thing. It’s a hurdle cleared.
by jthomas 2:57 PMA big hurdle that’s got to be close is to secure all the land. Should we Ram fans start protesting outside Al’s Steakhouse? The owner doesn’t even live here anymore. They’re in guess where..California. Is eminent domain gonna happen and how soon?
by Terry 2:58 PMI’m no legal expert but I don’t think Al’s can win this one.
by jthomas 2:59 PMSo IF the Raiders and Chargers are chosen to move to LA and IF the Rams stay, are we going to see the St Louis Rams in the AFC West in 2016? That would be fun with the Chiefs.
by Boilerbird 2:59 PMSomething obviously would have to give realignment-wise, because the TV networks (i.e. Fox) wouldn’t be happy about CBS having two AFC teams in LA.
by jthomas 3:00 PMIf you could sum it up quickly, what is the overall legacy of Sam Bradford as a Ram?
by David 3:01 PMDisappointment and injury. I still believe Bradford has the skill to be a successful NFL quarterback. But we never got to see that skill fully develop here because of the injury. Josh McDaniel’s tenure here did no favors for Sam, and for much of his time in StL, Sam didn’t have much of a supporting cast. The money is the money _ I really don’t get too hung up on that. Trust me, a contract extension for Foles would almost certainly be over $10 million per year. I wish him well in Philly.
by jthomas 3:05 PMDo you think our defense will be more aggressive this year than last year? Also since we got Akeem Ayers now what does that mean for Barron will just be a package player because I think he’s a very good safety who should be playing alot I feel he fits our system perfectly
by james 3:05 PMThe defense was pretty aggressive last year. I don’t think that changes this year. You make an interesting point about Ayers and Barron, because a lot of the playing time Barron saw last year was basically as a small linebacker.
by jthomas 3:07 PMConsidering the news on the lawsuit regarding the city dollars. What are the chances that some more concrete information comes out of these August 11 meetings instead of the general stadium plan updates. Although it guarantees nothing, its a HUGE step towards securing a stadium here. Also, how is Tre Mason looking?
by Rashad 3:07 PMIn terms of the agenda in Chicago for the owners meetings, the lawsuit results changes nothing. Not expecting any votes. I believe Carson and Inglewood make presentations to the full ownership, and there will be talk of moving up relocation timetable.
by jthomas 3:09 PMIf the Rams had a “St. Louis Rams 20 Year Anniversary Team,” how many current Rams would make the team? Laurinaitis? Long? Quinn? Hekker?
by Cat 3:09 PMI think Hekker for sure, even though he has only 3 seasons here (and no disrespect to Sean Landeta). If you’re talking first-team MLB, you have to go with London Fletcher. And don’t get me wrong, I have high regard for Laurinaitis; he would have to be second-teamer. Same with Long, who would be a second-teamer behind Carter and Little. As for Quinn, I think with time he could surpass Little for the first-team spot.
by jthomas 3:16 PMThe rams have had a few UDFA come in and make the team the past couple of years. Do you see anyone in this years class to keep an eye on for the 53 man or practice squad? Thanks
by Paul 3:16 PMTough one with so many players back on the roster. OT Darrell Williams certainly could be a practice squad guy. I think one of the undrafted RBs could be a practice squad guy (Brown, Franks, Laskey). Maybe Bryce Hager at LB.
by jthomas 3:18 PMWhat percentage of the funding for a new stadium would be used with public money?
by Garrett 3:18 PMI think currently, we’re talking about maybe 25 percent.
by jthomas 3:18 PMHi Jim, If you know anybody that needs a job, rams assistant coach 27 might not be enough.
by Rick 3:22 PMPretty amazing, isn’t it? I remember my high school football team had 2 varsity coaches. We got help from the “B” team coach on game day.
by jthomas 3:24 PMTechnical question. If a player is on the roster week 1, his contract is guaranteed for the entire season, correct? How does that work for players that are suspended to begin the season? Since they are not playing week one, are they not guaranteed?
by Dan in Denver 3:24 PMYou must be on the 53-man roster in order to have that contract guaranteed after Week 1 as a vested vet (4 years or more). If you’re suspended, you’re not on the 53-man.
by jthomas 3:25 PMAny legitimate chance that 3 Greatest Show on Turf players are enshrined at the same time next year? (as in Warner, Pace, and Bruce)
by Garrett 3:25 PMAll 3? Slim to none. I think Pace has the best chance.
by jthomas 3:26 PMWho do you think will lead the Rams in drops this year?
by Jerry 3:26 PMDropped passes? My, we’re a little sour aren’t we.
by jthomas 3:27 PMGood Day Jim, Do you see any surprise cuts for the Rams
by OzyRamsFan 3:27 PMCan’t really say at this point.
by jthomas 3:27 PMJim, What odd you have that Bradford A stays healthy and B get a contract from the Eagles
by OzyRamsFan 3:27 PM40-60.
by jthomas 3:27 PMIf Quick is just okay this year, do you give him an extension?
by TOM 3:27 PMPerhaps. But not for a lot of money.
by jthomas 3:28 PMAside from Nick Foles, whose absence do you think could have the biggest impact on the Rams record this year?
by GSOT SB34 3:28 PMGreat question. Given the inexperienced state of the O-line, you could say Saffold. With Gurley being eased in, losing Tre Mason would hurt. And on defense, even with the depth on the D-line, losing Quinn or Long would hurt.
by jthomas 3:33 PMIt’s usually typical for the head coach to establish practices between clubs during the off-season, correct? So was Fisher in charge to create the Oxnard practice or someone else set that up?
by Chris 3:33 PMNormally, you would think Fisher. But Kroenke and Jerry Jones are friends and business associates (it’s my understanding they’ve partnered on some non-football related business). So I wonder on this one.
by jthomas 3:34 PMDoes it matter how many the wins the Rams have for Fisher to keep his job next year?6-10 to 8-8 or being mediocre shouldn’t be what people should expect every year.
by TOM 3:35 PMMaybe it’s because Stan Kroenke would like Fisher to orchestrate the planned move to LA, but I get very little sense that Fisher’s in any trouble this year.
by jthomas 3:35 PMThe Rams this year has been touted to be a shut down defense, but they haven’t been close to that last year. Potential is there but are they being overrated?
by TOM 3:39 PMNot based on the second half of last season. Then again, that whole Sack City thing didn’t exactly work out early last season.
by jthomas 3:40 PMHey Jim
How do you think or do you know how fisher plans use both backs
by Bell 3:40 PMAt this point, not really. (I assume you’re talking about Gurley and Mason.) But we won’t have to worry about it early in the season, because we’re not going to see much of Gurley if at all. In an ideal world, with a fully up to speed Gurley, you’d have to think 70-30 Gurley to Mason.
by jthomas 3:41 PMWho are the 8-9 offensive lineman you think will make the Rams 53 man roster?
by Garrett 3:41 PMRobinson, Saffold, Brown, Havenstein, Barnes, Jones, Rhaney, Reynolds, Battle. Donnal maybe works his way in there.
by jthomas 3:43 PMHow much do you like from what you’ve seen in Rob H, Battle and J Brown?
by Safer 3:44 PMToo early to tell.
by jthomas 3:44 PMGiven the need to resign many free agents next offseason, any chance Chris Long ($14,250,000 cap hit) becomes a cap casualty?
by Dave 3:44 PMI guess it’s possible because Long is due a $2 million roster bonus at the start of the 2016 league year. But not likely.
by jthomas 3:47 PMJim, they updated the banner for the chats, but not your circa 1995 picture. Really?
by Kevin W. 3:47 PMIf you’re that hung up on a current photo, check out my Twitter picture at @jthom1.
by jthomas 3:48 PMIn St. Louis, Kroenke just owns the team, correct? The RSA owns the Dome, parking lots, land, etc.?
by Garrett 3:48 PMCorrect.
by jthomas 3:49 PMHey Jim, I remember a few months back you said there was a CERTAIN reason the Rams could not land the center Wisnewski. Is there any chance of Mo Alexander beating out Mcleod at FS?
by Dwayne 3:50 PMAlexander will not beat out McLeod.
by jthomas 3:50 PMAnyone stand out in the ST pads practice yesterday, a-la- Darren Bates from a few years back?
by Tye Hill. 3:50 PMNot really. Many of the core players looked good _ Bates, Reynolds, etc. _ but no new face really stood out.
by jthomas 3:51 PMI went to training camp on Sunday. Case Keenum looked pretty sharp. He seemed to have a quick release. Is he improving or is he just a real good training camp quarterback.
by Ramsfan 3:51 PMFisher and the Rams like him. At this point, it certainly looks like he has the edge over Davis for the No. 2 spot.
by jthomas 3:52 PMIf you were the GM/Head Coach, would you have allowed the team to head into the season with 3/5 newbie lineman? Or tried to bolster the line with youngish, but established F/As?
by Kevin W. 3:52 PMEven though it hasn’t worked out for the Rams in the past, I would’ve tried to have added some established veteran help by signing 1 starter in free agency.
by jthomas 3:53 PMIs circuit judge Tom frawley’s voiding of the st Louis law requiring a vote to usepublic funds to build stadiums subject to an appeal to a higher court or is Frawley’s voiding of this ordinace the final word on this issue?
by StanE 3:54 PMI believe an appeal is possible.
by jthomas 3:55 PMDo you think the slow starts over the last few years have to do with a somewhat “soft” training camp routine?
by Tom 3:56 PMCould be. But all the training camps in the league run similar camps.
by jthomas 3:57 PMIf Stan relents, will he have any input on the new stadium design?
by Kudzu 3:57 PMI think the Rams, through Kevin Demoff, already have offered some thoughts along those lines.
by jthomas 3:57 PMt1234Newest >
Have you heard any updates on ticket sales for this year? Any guess on how the crowd will look this year?
by sambg78 3:57 PMI’ve heard they’re down, but can’t really give you any precise numbers. I think there’s some concern about the opener vs. Seattle.
by jthomas 3:58 PMWhy is the dome better financially now without a team, but it needed a team so badly in ’95 that we gave up top tier language?
by Waddles 3:58 PM1.) Because it’s more than 2/3rds paid for. 2.) Because there won’t be a team here in 2016 without a new stadium.
by jthomas 3:59 PMBecause we have rookie OC , new QB and new Oline for most part, any chance we see just a little bit more from offense in preseason? Do you think our commitment to being vanilla in preseason hurts us in the first 4 games?
by simdaddy 3:59 PMI think it’s all but a certainty the young 0-linemen play more in the preseason. It’s been very noticeable in OTAs and camp (so far) that Nick Foles is getting a ton of reps, so maybe that carries over to the preseason as well.
by jthomas 4:01 PMHave you talked to any of the day to day workers such as salespeople, account reps there at Rams Park? Have they been told anything about their jobs that might show where the organization is leaning.
by sambg78 4:01 PMFor example, I’ve heard the trainers and equipment guys have been told they’re going. There’s some concern throughout the building however about who may be staying and who may be going. And some employees don’t want to leave St. Louis, and by choice won’t be accompanying the team if it goes to LA.
by jthomas 4:03 PMI read that whatever NFL team moved to play at the TWD, the only thing they would pay for is a yearly lease bill. Back then, the number was $250k. Was that # correct? If yes, is it still the # the Rams pay today or has it increased over time?
by Garrett 4:03 PMI believe the rent is still $250K per year.
by jthomas 4:04 PMJim thanks for the discussions week in and out. When is the last time a team started the season with 3 rookie linemen? Also what’s the highest ranked OL that we drafted this year?
by Cutman 4:04 PMWell, the Rams won’t have 3 rookie starters on the line. Although whoever wins at center will be inexperienced. I think Havenstein was the highest-ranked offensive linemen by the draft gurus. And he was the highest drafted, of course, in the second round, No. 57 overall.
by jthomas 4:11 PMAustin and Cunningham looking like they will split kickoff and punt return duties again this year? Any newbies show a flair for it?
by Uncle Leo 4:11 PMThat’s how it looks, with Austin on punts and Cunningham on kickoffs. I’m sure some others will be worked in during preseason, but hard to see that tandem changing.
by jthomas 4:12 PMSince the NFL is “encouraging” the city of St. Louis to continue to spend money to develop a plan for a new stadium, any chance the city can be reimbursed from the league if they allow the team to leave?
by James Kirk 4:12 PMDon’t think they’ll be any refunds.
by jthomas 4:13 PMIs there any chance that Kroenke gets told no LA move by the NFL and he turns around applies to move the team to another market? Is the new stadium deal sweet enough to keep him from leaving?
by Steve A 4:13 PMWell, I would think any lease on a new stadium would have to be negotiated.
by jthomas 4:13 PMIs Gaines okay?
by KFDSL 4:15 PMWe’ll find out at practice today.
by jthomas 4:15 PMHow is Gaines?
by KFDSL 4:15 PMWe’ll find out at practice today?
by jthomas 4:15 PMDo you have any updates on Gaines?
by KFDSL 4:15 PMWe’ll find out at practice today.
by jthomas 4:15 PMTHANKS
by KFDSL 4:15 PMYou’re welcome.
by jthomas 4:16 PMBe sure to check out USA today season predictions. Has Rams going 10-6, wildcard win over Carolina and losing to Green Bay in divisional round
by stlramsforever 4:17 PMI have forgotten what it’s like to cover a playoff team.
by jthomas 4:17 PMDo you see the preseason being cut to 2-3 games and reg season expanding anytime soon? Thanks
by Paul 4:17 PMTwo preseason games makes a ton of sense. But don’t see it happening at this point.
by jthomas 4:18 PMYou’ve been told the trainers and equipment guys will be going to LA if the Rams move or the trainers and equipment guys have told you that they’ve been told the Rams are moving to LA?
by Hank 4:19 PMIf the team moves, the trainers and equipment guys will be accompanying team. That’s what I’ve been told.
by jthomas 4:20 PMJim, any sense from the organization that they are concerned about all the youth on the OL? Coach B has got his hands full.
by ActionJackson39 4:20 PMYes, he does have his hands full. They don’t seem concerned.
by jthomas 4:21 PMHow much reliance do the coaches put on pre-season games as far as talent evaluation? Would they be able to make roster decisions from just training camp/extra practices?
by James Kirk 4:21 PMObviously preseason games are a big part of the process, but the coaches get a pretty good idea about who they like through camp and OTAs.
by jthomas 4:23 PMAny chance at new uniforms any time soon?
by stlramsforever 4:23 PMOK, the first uniform question of the day. That means it’s time to go. Thanks for playing. . . .
