Rams chat with Jim Thomashttp://sports.live.stltoday.com/Event/Rams_chat_with_Jim_Thomas_86?Page=7
Jim, any chance the rams draft Gordon or Gurley in the 1st round, makes more sense than a WR if they plan to be a run first team
by Greg in Raleigh 1:59 PMThe Rams have drafted at least one running back in each of the 3 previous drafts during the Fisher-Snead regime. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see one taken by them this year. But Gurley would be a guy that you might not get much out of this year because of the knee injury. Gordon’s a guy you’d almost certainly have to take in the first round. So I don’t see that happening in Round 1, unless the Rams trade down from 10 (or move up out of the second round). But it wouldn’t surprise me to see an RB taken later in the draft.
by jthomas 2:03 PMLooks like the Rams concentrated on defense thru free agency. Does that mean offence through the draft?
by jack 2:03PMAt this point, it sure looks that way. Let’s see if any offensive linemen are signed or in the case of Barksdale re-signed before the draft. That could change the dynamic.
by jthomas 2:05PMDo you see the Rams selecting a QB in the draft or developing Austin Davis?
by jack 2:05PMFIsher is on record as saying the team plans to draft a QB this year. Of course we heard that last year and nothing happened until the sixth round (Garrett Gilbert).
by jthomas 2:06PMJim, if you’re the decision maker, what would cause you to keep or fire Fisher and/or Snead after this year?
by ihtnep 2:06PMI think you’ve got to see .500 this year.
by jthomas 2:07PMJim, what was the end result of the Rams violating their lease by playing in London? I never heard what, if any, was the resolution.
by Scott 2:07PMWell, it ended up being only a one-year deal _ not three games. I think the team freed up some more time on the yearly calendar for the CVC to use for conventions. But I don’t recall anything major.
by jthomas 2:09PMJim – Are you starting to pay slightly more attention to the Raiders and their roster, etc.? Just in case…
by McGarrett 2:09PMNo, but I was thinking to myself just the other day that maybe I should start paying more attention to that team.
by jthomas 2:09PMHow do you feel the Pro Bowl playing in Brazil? I know its all about the $$$. But as a player, I wouldn’t be thrilled about it.
by jack 2:10PMThe NFL is obsessed with growing their game and making it international in nature. Some players might like making the trip. Especially if it’s played in one of the coastal cities.
by jthomas 2:11PMHi Jim, do yuo know why Schotty took a college job of the same role? Seems leaving the NFL to go to College is the wrong direction? It coudn’t have been money could it?
by Greg 2:11PMWe covered this at the time of his departure. The south has always been a pull for him and his family. He interviewed for at least one job in a southern city each offseason that he was with the Rams. Also, his NFL career had stalled, and taking a college job _ even as an OC _ might be a way to revive it and perhaps get a head-coaching job in college.
by jthomas 2:14PMis the new o.c. developing better packages for Tavon Austin this year? Really didn’t like seeing him in the backfield even though he did that in college. He needs to be 1 on 1 in space.
by jack 2:14PMThat’s the plan according to Fisher and the new O.C. _ Cignetti. We’ll see.
by jthomas 2:15PMI’m a long time Raider fan, is there a realistic chance that they move to St. Louis if the Rams leave? I can’t imagine them leaving California
by bandon 2:15PMI don’t know how realistic, but there is a chance. Because it looks like the Raiders aren’t going to ever get a new stadium built in Oakland.
by jthomas 2:16PMHey Jim, I’m already tired of the all the move talk, I’m a Ram fan from Canada, I come to St. Louis at least once a year to see the Rams – always have a great time in St. Louis. My question is how do you think the Rams feel about the Mark Barron trade now? Happy with him or do you think that they’d rather the 4th and 6th round pick? Thanks!
by tc 2:16PMI’d say they’re happy with Barron, and would like to expand his role in 2015.
by jthomas 2:17PMWith Kevin Demoff hiding, it’s obvious he has quit on St. Louis. Will he do an interview again, or is he worried about being caught in another lie when he was last spoke on 920?
by Keith 2:17PMWhat are you talking about in terms of an interview on 920?
by jthomas 2:17PMAt the focus groups, did you get a sense that most people there were making it clear that St Louis prefers to keep the Rams over just “a team”?
by STLfanInChicago 2:17PMYes. That came through loud and clear. There was less enthusiasm for a non-Rams solution, but most indicated _ from what I was told _ that they would also buy PSLs for a “non-Rams” team in St. Louis.
by jthomas 2:19PMWhere will you be on draft day? And will you get any sleep the day before?
by jack 2:19PMAlways cover the Rams draft from Rams Park.
by jthomas 2:19PMDo you have to do any other research before the draft besides what we do as fans?
by jack 2:19PMYes. Interviewing people, taking part in some conference calls, etc.
by jthomas 2:20PMHas there been any movement on the part of the Rams to sign some FA OL help? Any news on Barksdale?
by SqueezePlay 2:21PMAll quiet on the FA front. The Rams continue to have dialogue with Barksdale’s agent, but as of Monday nothing appeared imminent.
by jthomas 2:22PMJim do you think In-Bev Field would be a good name for the new stadium. Having a beer garden there would be great, don’t you think.
by philwill1 2:22PMSounds good to me.
by jthomas 2:22PMHi Jim
If the stadium deal gets approval but the Rams leave anyway, I don’t believe the Raiders really have an interest in leaving California to come here. Even if they did, wouldn’t we be pretty much in the same boat as we are now? A relocated team coming here just for the money. The only positive way I see this working out is being awarded an expansion team with local enthusiastic owners that care about the community. How did Cleveland accomplished this and should we soon be concentrating our efforts in this direction?
by mike 2:23PMExpansion is not on the horizon in the NFL. Patriots owner Robert Kraft made that pretty clear at the NFL owners meetings a few weeks ago. I think the Raiders would have interest in moving here. The team is financially strapped in Oakland with little hope of getting a stadium built there.
by jthomas 2:25PMThe Rams seem to be spending a lot of time with Winston and Mariota. Do you think they’re planning to move up?
by Steverino 2:25PMI don’t know about a lot of time. I think part of it is just due diligence in case either of them fall.
by jthomas 2:26PMI know it’s a little early but do you see the Rams staying at #10 or moving up or down? I’d like to see them move down to gain extra picks.
by jack 2:26PMI’m not sure extra picks is what the Rams need at this point. They’ve had plenty of extra picks over the past few years thanks to the RGIII trade. I think they need quality over quantity.
by jthomas 2:27PMWisniewski is still available. Any interest there from the Rams?
by SqueezePlay 2:27PMI think the Rams have maintained a degree of interest.
by jthomas 2:27PMHey Jim–to follow up on that London question, do you think things would be any different if St. Louis and the stadium entity had been okay with Stan holding games in London? That was before he really made the aggressive moves to LA. From his perspective, it seems like he wants added value and a global sports brand. If the STL Rams played at least one game in London every year, I think that might satisfy some of that impulse–it would give the Rams global recognition as the team that is consistently in London, and it’d let Kroenke look, act like, and generally be a big-shot NFL owner on the world stage. Just a thought.
by c_good 2:27PMNo, I don’t think London has anything to do with what Stan is doing in LA.
by jthomas 2:28PMHi JT, are the Rams sponsoring the NFL Draft party at Rams Park like they did last year?
by MJ 2:28PMI believe it’s at Ballpark Village this year.
by jthomas 2:29PMDoes it make sense to trade down from #10? OL and WR just about as good later in the day as at #10.
by Steverino 2:29PMI think that’s the case at OL, but I don’t know if you can say the same thing about WR _ because of the quality at the top. Specifically Cooper and White. And also, trading down assumes that there is something that another team wants to trade up for.
by jthomas 2:31PMWhen Busch III was built they sold bricks to help raise funds. Has that been considered for the new football stadium?
by Harry Dunn 2:31PMIt would have to be a lot of bricks.
by jthomas 2:32PMWhat is the time table on when we should find out if the financing for the new stadium has been approved?
by Ron 2:32PMNo firm timetable has been set. But it looks like something will have to be decided by the fall.
by jthomas 2:33PMWould you agree that Kevin Demoff has disappeared? His lack of involvement seems to be a good indicator that the Rams want out of St. Louis.
by Keith 2:33PMHe certainly is doing less on the radio. But I’ve personally found him pretty much as accessible as ever.
by jthomas 2:35PMCrabtree signing in Oakland= WR available at 10?
by D_Roks30 2:35PMDid you see the group of wideouts the Raiders trotted out against the Rams last season? I think they still need playmakers for Carr and that adding Crabtree won’t necessarily preclude them from taking a WR at No. 4 overall.
by jthomas 2:37PMIs Demoff’s background the Walmart organization or is he a football man?
by Tom 2:37PMIs this a serious question?
by jthomas 2:37PMAt $500 each we would only need to sell about 2 million bricks. That seems doable.
by Harry Dunn 2:37PMShould I contact Dave Peacock and put you in charge of brick sales?
by jthomas 2:38PMYes, what’s wrong with that?
by Tom 2:38PMDemoff has been with the Rams since before Kroenke became controlling owner. So he wasn’t what you would call a Kroenke hire. He is the son of famed agent Marvin Demoff. He worked with the Tampa Bay Bucs prior to joining the Rams, and also in the Arena League for the LA Avengers.
by jthomas 2:43PMAny chances Dunbar gets released if he doesnt beat out the free agent ayers?
by D_Roks30 2:43PMPossible, but his contract isn’t all that expensive, so the Rams certainly could keep both.
by jthomas 2:43PMHow about if I wrap a $500 check around a brick and deliver it to Kroenke Sports Holdings offices?
by Tom Bateman 2:44PMI’m sure Stan would appreciate the contributions.
by jthomas 2:45PMThanks for the info. I don’t normally focus on the management, but right now relocation issues have brought the back room boys to the forefront.
by Tom 2:45PMUnderstood.
by jthomas 2:45PMAt what percentage would you rate your fatigue of discussing potential Rams relocation? When do you think it will reach maximum overload?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 2:45PMWhile I admit this beat isn’t as much fun to cover as it was even a few years ago, I do not concede fatigue. We will press on.
by jthomas 2:46PMDoes the latest news about Lawrence Phillips surprise you?
by J Louis 2:46PMVery sad. I know this sounds like stating the obvious, but I just never thought he was a good person.
by jthomas 2:47PMTom Bateman, just ensure the brick goes THROUGH the window of Kroenke Sports Holdings offices.
by royearl 2:47PMHey now!
by jthomas 2:48PMWhat are the prospects of the Rams signing Justin Blaylock?
by azpete 2:48PMBlalock is in no hurry to sign, I’m told by his agent, but I still think there’s a decent chance he’ll end up with the Rams.
by jthomas 2:49PMIs Brockers on notice with the signing of Nick Fairley?
by jack 2:49PMLet’s wait and see if the Rams exercise the fifth-year option on Brockers before we answer that.
by jthomas 2:51PMWhat can we do to get Jim Thomas excited about talking about the Rams again?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 2:51PMWinning would be nice, for starters.
by jthomas 2:51PMJim, if you had your pick of any draft player that you felt would help us the most, who would it be? Regardless of moving up or down, etc.
by Doug 2:51PMAmari Cooper.
by jthomas 2:51PMWhat would you say the percentages are of the Rams re-signing Joe Barksdale?
by azpete 2:51PM55-45.
by jthomas 2:51PMAny idea why no one has signed Wisniewski yet?
by Tom 2:51PMPretty curious. He’s made about a half-dozen visits. Gotta be the money.
by jthomas 2:52PMjim, what w take for stan to fire fisher?
by ramwrap 2:52PMI’m gonna say 6-10.
by jthomas 2:52PMMan the talk of the Rams relocating and the Charges and Raiders situation sure made the fiasco that Roger Goodell had about punishment towards some NFL wife beaters go away quickly!
by Ed 2:53PMWell, in these quarters anyway. I’m sure it’s still a hot topic in other precincts.
by jthomas 2:53PMB. Do you see an improvement in the odds of the team moving?
by Jeffrey D 2:53PMNot yet.
by jthomas 2:54PMI head your interview with Frank Cus. and you said Peacock has almost secured financing and land for the stadium. Bernie also posted on his forum that Peacock is enthusiastic about the current status of the stadium development. 2 part question: A. How can the NFL allow the Rams move when a new stadium is about shovel-ready?
by Jeffrey D 2:54PMThat’s the question isn’t it.
by jthomas 2:54PMJim haven’t seen this question asked, so percentage NFL football will be in St. Louis in 2016. Don’t care if it’s the Rams, just an NFL team would be nice. Thanks.
by Keith 2:54PMAll right. I’m gonna go 45-55 on that one at this point.
by jthomas 2:54PMSure glad to see you mention preference on Amari Cooper. After seeing so many WR’s from last year fare so well compared to our offense after the injury, I’d be ecstatic to see some sizzle on the offensive side of things!
by MJ 2:55PMSorry. I got spoiled by the Great Show. I like playmakers.
by jthomas 2:55PMjim im a rams fan in philly, and the talk is that foles is nothing better then a back-up in this league, your thoughts.
by ramwrap 2:55PMI think a healthy Bradford is better than Foles. But as to what Foles is, I’m not sure. Too small of a sample size. Is he the 27 TD/2 INT guy of 2013? Or is he the so-so performer of 2014 who missed half the season with injury? Or somewhere in between?
by jthomas 2:57PMI’ve seen a lot of mock drafts with Scherff and Waynes going #9 and #10. Who do you have higher on your board and who do you think is a better fit for the Rams?
by Steverino 2:57PMScherff.
by jthomas 2:58PMIf you ever found yourself in a trial by combat (a la Tyrion in a Game of Thrones), which current or former Rams player would you want to be your champion?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 2:58PMNo idea what you’re talking about.
by jthomas 2:58PMAny chance we see Bradford in the Pro Bowl this year? I agree with your assessment, by the way.
by Tom 2:58PMI guess it’s possible _ all together now _ if he stays healthy.
by jthomas 2:59PMSome of the Rams fans and NFL guru reporters, are saying caution about the Foles and Bradford trade. Saying that Foles is not that good of a Quarterback. I just have a feeling that someone who throws 27 TD’s in a season is usually not a backup Quarterback! Your thoughts Jim?
by Ed 2:59PMWell, those numbers _ 27 and 2 _ certainly jump out at you. Obviously those aren’t the kind of numbers put up by ham & eggers. So you have to factor that in. But were they partially due to the system? And a strong supporting cast?
by jthomas 3:01PMOk, GM Thomas. Rams are on the clock and Scherff and Cooper are available. Who do you pick?
by Tex 3:01PMI go. . .playmaker.
by jthomas 3:01PMyour odds on Bradford starting for the browns 2015?
by ramwrap 3:01PMSorry, you’re looking for the Mary Cay Cabot or Tony Grossi chat.
by jthomas 3:02PMI know it’s not your area, but Blues/Wild series prediction?
by stlforever 3:02PMBlues. I think they go at least a couple rounds this year.
by jthomas 3:03PMI beleave Rams stay in STL to all u haters get your own team
by Billy 3:03PMVent Billy, vent.
by jthomas 3:03PMAssuming a new stadium is built and an NFL team is in STL……is the dome than able to be utilized for various events and generate income for the city?
by Steve 3:03PMThat’s the plan, and according to P&B (that’s Peacock & Blitz) it will generate an additional $20 million.
by jthomas 3:04PMSoooooo, I should hold off buying my Foles Ram jersey until next season?
by Doug 3:04PMNo. Get it. Wear it.
by jthomas 3:04PMSo, 45-55 that the Rams will be in St Louis in 2016. I’m getting ready to write my check for my 2015 season tickets. And the odds are that this is the last time I will do so. That’s what I had thought, and I planned to write a note saying that. I think I’ll go ahead with that plan.
by azpete 3:04PMI can feel your melancholy.
by jthomas 3:04PMJim, has anyone thought about challenging the NFL or Stan on if the Rams move the names stays here pal? They did play in 2 Super Bowls and mad a few playoff trips. I think if memory serves me correctly they played in one Super Bowl in Southern Cal! Your comment Jim?
by Ed 3:05PMGood points, But the Rams do have nearly 50 years in southern California compared to 20 here.
by jthomas 3:05PMWhy so bullish on the Foles jersey?
by c_good 3:05PMIf you’re a fan, and he’s your starting QB, why not?
by jthomas 3:06PMI understand Bradford was liked, but he wasn’t the most vocal leader on the field. If the Rams do draft a QB this year, skill sets being equal, go for a strong leader this time? Given anymore thought to who you would pick at QB?
by Uncle Leo 3:06PMI kind of like Petty.
by jthomas 3:06PMSo Jim, what do I do with my Law Phillips jersey? Ebay? you interested?
by ekern55 3:06PMKeep it. It’s probably worth more now.
by jthomas 3:07PMdoes stan have any children? that are involved with the rams at any point?
by ramwrap 3:07PMYes, he does have children. None involved with the Rams.
by jthomas 3:07PMSo 1 superbowl appearance in 50 years wins out over 2 superbowl appearances in 20 years?
by BOB C 3:07PMNo, half a century wins out over 20 years.
by jthomas 3:07PMIf I recall correctly, the Rams drafted a WR in the top 10 recently. Do you think they’ll get Tavon Austin more involved making plays on offense this year? Remember that Indy game…
by c_good 3:08PMThat’s the plan.
by jthomas 3:08PMWhat about QB Grayson?
by Uncle Leo 3:08PMInteresting guy. Accurate. Rams are interested.
by jthomas 3:08PMI keep seeing T.J. Clemmings’ name being attached to the Rams but that he seems like the antithesis of what this team needs i.e. a raw and inexperienced player with a ton of upside. 2015 should be all about plug-n-play.
by Tackleberry 3:08PMYeah, but those are the kinds of guys that the Rams seem to like drafting.
by jthomas 3:09PMhow is the o-line situation? any clarification or do we have to wait until draft day?
by jack 3:09PMNone today. I sure thought the thing would be more settled by now.
by jthomas 3:09PMwhat are you hearing is Barksdale market value, would 3 years and $10million get it done. Signing a possible starter on the line gives them much more flexibility in the draft to go with best player available
by Greg in Raleigh 3:09PMHaven’t heard. But I’d be surprised if it was more than $4 million per year.
by jthomas 3:10PMHi Jim, If the Rams shock the world and win a Lombardi this year, would Stan appear in public at all for a parade or anything? Will he ever grant an interview to a St. Louis based journalist again?
by ihtnep 3:10PMMy answer is yes to both.
by jthomas 3:11PMJim, what is going on with Barksdale? Has he over valued his market and therefore not had much activity? I think that he looked like a turnstile against Kerrigan and Houston definitely hurt his value. To me he looks like something better than average RT, but not top shelf. Is he a Ram next year? Thanks!
by Bull 3:11PMI think you’ve answered your own question. And yes, I still think there’s a decent chance he’s back next season.
by jthomas 3:12PMDo you expect Tavon Austin to excel this year with the change of offensive coordinators? I really like to see them being used effectively.
by jack 3:12PMI don’t know about “excel,” but once again I think a concerted effort will be made to get him more involved.
by jthomas 3:12PMHi Jim, any new info on Peacock’s progress? Do you think the land be secure in time for the May meeting? Also, how influential on the owners group do you think having a firm financing plan for a new stadium would have?
by STLfanInChicago 3:12PMI think the land will be pretty much a done deal by the May meetings. And if the financing’s in place, then the plan becomes real to the owners. It would have a huge impact.
by jthomas 3:14PMAny chance the Rams trade up to get Mariota?
by Steverino 3:14PMIf he gets past Tennessee, I think the Rams might start making calls.
by jthomas 3:14PMSo if they reach .500, you automatically keep both, while 7-9 gets both fired?
by ihtnep 3:14PMYes.
by jthomas 3:14PMIn year four, I would think that .500 is a pretty low bar.
by Tom 3:14PMTrue.
by jthomas 3:15PMWhy the inactivity with regard to the team’s biggest need, offensive line?
by Tom 3:15PMAs Nelly would say, must be the money.
by jthomas 3:15PMGive us your best Vegas odds on the Rams moving up or down in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft?
by Save STL…I mean the Rams 3:15PMNot Vegas, but here are the latest Earth City odds: moving up, 25-75; moving down 34-66.
by jthomas 3:16PMHi Jim, in a perfect world the rams would have 2 second round choices so they could nab 2 starting calibre OL and the 3rd best quarterback. Who is likely to be available at 10 that would allow a trade down scenario?
by Shedrow 3:16PMMaybe Shane Ray or Randy Gregory.
by jthomas 3:18PMYour the one and only Rams insider for me. Screw em if they go to L.A. Give us your best Vegas odds…. Do the Rams trade up or down in the 1st round of the 2015 NFL draft?
by Save STL…I mean the Rams 3:18PMI love you, too. Odds posted elsewhere on this chat.
by jthomas 3:18PMDo you think the Rams are set at WR and RB? And is this Quick last year of his contract and
he’d better be consistent in producing.
by jack 3:18PMWouldn’t rule out team drafting either. And yes, Quick will be entering last year of his contract. Time flies.
by jthomas 3:19PMHas there ever been an NFL team in history as universally hated by all those outside their home market as the New England Patriots?
by ihtnep 3:19PMYou know, you may be right. I can’t really think of any. I don’t even think the Raiders in their heyday. Or even the Cowboys.
by jthomas 3:20PMDo you feel being an NFL city is a right or a privilege?
by steve 3:20PMNeither. But it’s an expensive, exclusive club. There’s not one on every corner.
by jthomas 3:21PMHi Jim, thanks for doing these chats. I am a die-hard Rams’ fan and have been optimistic about the team since my Dad got us season tickets for years and years starting back with their inaugural season. We had great memories at Rams’ games. It’s hard to be optimistic any longer when you feel that an organization like the NFL and also the Rams are running things more and more like they are done in Washington. Tired of the spin and parsed language. What do you suggest? Thanks!
by Road Grader 3:21PMIf you’re a Rams team, root for the team on the field, not the owner or the front office.
by jthomas 3:22PMWho has more yards this season, Sam or Nick?
by cook 3:22PMSam
by jthomas 3:22PMHow much cap room do the Rams have left?
by SqueezePlay 3:25PM$9.8 million according to latest from the NFLPA.
by jthomas 3:25PMI am about to hit the “acceptance” stage in the Ram’s relocation drama. They are clearing leaving. That being said, will the bad PR for the NFL stymie the move at all. By bad PR I am referring to them blocking Khan in favor of Kroenke, breaking the cross ownership rules and ultimately allowing the team to be bought by a man who never had any intention of keeping the team here. It almost seems as though we need another horrendous “NFL player going bad” type scenario to happen right before they announce that the relocation is official.
by Vern 3:26PMAs Yogi Berra would say: It ain’t over till it’s over.
by jthomas 3:26PM920 interview. Kevin said that no discussion with LA took place. It was later learned talks with LA and been going on for over 3 months, with Kevin Demoff involved. Maybe 6 months ago after Stan had partnered up. Kevin was caught in a lie, and hasn’t done an interview since.
by Keith 3:27PMOK, I don’t recall that interview.
by jthomas 3:28PMLooking at some mock drafts today, they are all over the map on the value of the QB’s after Winston and Mariota. Burke over at SI had no QB’s taken in the 2nd round, another had Baylor’s Petty not going until the 4th or 5th round. If it’s such a bad year for true starting QB’s, should the Rams sit tight for now? Why use a draft pick for another career back-up, we’ve got two of those right now?
by Uncle Leo 3:28PMSo the alternative then, is just to sit and do nothing, let another year pass without attempting to develop a QB of the future?
by jthomas 3:29PMI get the sense that this, maybe next month, the NFL six member LA committee is to hear arious pitches… In addition to that Eric Gubman fellow, would they hear from the Ram’s officials or Kroenke himself for Inglewood and officials from Raiders/Chargers for the Carson site? Or is it expected they just hear from their LA football “investigator” Grubman? If so, sure hope he provides a balanced report…. thanks on any thoughts as to what we might look for!
by MJ 3:29PMAt the LA committee meetings later this month, the Rams, Raiders, and Chargers are supposed to update that committee on their LA stadium plans. I don’t know if it will actually be the owners making the presentations, but those presentations will definitely be made by the teams.
by jthomas 3:31PMAbout the Raiders move… If Kroeneke and the Rams leave St. Louis for LA, wouldn’t the Raiders choose to be a 2nd team tenant in LA rather than a move half way across the country to St. Louis?
by Uncle Leo 3:31PMYeah, but what if the Chargers decided to pair up with Kroenke in LA? The league doesn’t want three teams in LA? Then what do the Raiders do?
by jthomas 3:32PMDo you know how much money the Rams have left to spend in free agency? Do they have to restructure other players salaries
to get the types of free agent they want?
by jack 3:32PMAs I mentioned earlier, the Rams have a little over $9.8 million in salary cap space left. I think if they were going to do anything of a restructuring nature, they would’ve done so with the $10 million roster bonus due Robert Quinn. (The Rams have already paid that roster bonus to Quinn, so that avenue is no longer available.)
by jthomas 3:34PMJim, do you happen to know what became of that OG prospect who played well at the Senior Bowl only to be left off the invite list for the combine? I believe his name was Shaq Mason, maybe out of Georgia Tech? Any interest in him from the Rams?
by c_good 3:35PMNot familiar with this. Sorry.
by jthomas 3:35PMDo you think Fisher, Demoff, and Snead get more info from Kroenke about LA plans than they’ve let on? Or does Kroenke even need to communicate anything to them at this point?
by c_good 3:35PMI think that’s a pretty safe bet.
by jthomas 3:35PMIf Demoff is still accessible, would you ask him, with all that is happening at lightning speed toward getting a new stadium done, does he really think that the Rams have exhausted every opportunity to find a stadium solution in their home city? And if he answers, please let us know if he could do it with a straight face. Thanks.
by Bob 3:35PMWe’ve had variations of this conversation on more than one occasion. Suffice it to say we have a difference of opinion.
by jthomas 3:36PMThink rams would have any interest in beckem-greene
by JIM GO RAMS 3:36PMHe was brought in for a pre-draft visit earlier this month, so there’s at least some interest in Dorial Green-Beckham.
by jthomas 3:37PMHave the Rams shown an interest in drafting Clemson LB Vic Beasley?
by Aaron 3:37PMYes, he was brought in for a pre-draft visit earlier this month.
by jthomas 3:37PMI get what you’re saying about not needing more picks, but it’d be great to pick up two of those late-1st, or 2nd-round OL prospects instead of one. That’d leave room for a QB in the 2nd and an LB, DE, or all-purpose pass-rusher in the 3rd
by c_good 3:38PMI don’t want to give you too much credit, but you do make a good point.
by jthomas 3:38PMHow would you grade Fisher and Snead so far? Draft is way better than Ziggy but the free agent signings is really bad. Hopefully it’s better this year.
by jack 3:38PMWell, they did an admirable job getting the team from horrible to nearly-respectable, but can’t seem to make that next jump. They’ve certainly drafted better than they’ve fared in free agency.
by jthomas 3:40PMSorry for the trolls JT. Thanks for doing this with us .
by Aaron 3:40PMWhere are the LA trolls today? This is usually the time of the chat where they start coming out.
by jthomas 3:40PMJim, can we expect to hear from the Taskforce any time soon? Would be nice to know what the progress is of their task to build a stadium? They’ve been awfully quiet. What are your odds of the Rams staying at this point?
by GaryH 3:40PMYeah, it would be nice to hear from the Task Force. I don’t know if they have anything planned. Maybe they’re waiting until they have more of a handle on the financing. Odds still at 43-57 at this point.
by jthomas 3:41PMsince there’s been no response to my question regarding interviewing some actual sports bankers who do actual nfl deals about their opinions on the l.a. market and possible moves, how about another question regarding possible interviews, this time of mark davis, who i can’t remember having been interviewed by anybody from the post: would you find such an interview, especially given the april 2013 si story on the raiders and the fallout from that, of value to your readers at this time?
by branford76 3:52PMApparently you haven’t read every story by Hunn and I, because Mark Davis was quoted in a couple of stories.
by jthomas 3:53PMI think Demoff is just talking the lies Kroenke pays him to tell. If the Rams exhausted all options here they would have asked the city for a new stadium after the arbitration was over. There’s not a city in the NFL that would spend 700Million on upgrading a Dome that will last 10 years until that lease ran out!
by Terry 3:53PMThe other part of that $700 million plan, remember, is that the CVC wasn’t crazy about losing all use of the dome for a couple of years, while the massive upgrade was being done.
by jthomas 3:55PMJim how can the nfl force Stan to be a tenant in St. Louis when he can be an owner of his own stadium, hotel and restaurants in LA? They wouldn’t risk a lawsuit of that proportion would they?
by Cutman 3:55PMYeah, it’s a tricky thing. But when they awarded him the franchise, it was for the St. Louis territory, the “St. Louis” Rams, not the “I’ll play in St. Louis until I find a better deal” Rams.
by jthomas 3:56PMJust got here, so not sure if it was asked, but there have been stronger and stronger rumors that the Chargers would be willing to trade Rivers if they can draft Mariota. If Mariota fell to the Rams, would the Rams trade the #10 pick for Rivers if that is all it was?
by Dan in Denver 3:57PMIf you’re the Chargers, I would think the No. 10 overall pick wouldn’t be enough alone for Rivers. Also Rivers doesn’t want to play in LA. So why would he want to be traded to a team (St. Louis) that wants to move to LA.
by jthomas 4:00PMof course I’ve seen quotes from davis (and spanos, et al) in your stories. i meant something extensive and substantive one-on-one about davis, his perspective and performance as an owner, and what he sees (to the extent he will say, which can’t be any less than kroenke) in his future as an owner.
by branford76 4:01PMMaybe that’s something we’ll pursue down the line.
by jthomas 4:01PMThe hell with the vote…..Bring on the Stadium…..Beautiful rendering!!!!!! Khan, bring the Jags and come on home to Illinois. 😉
by Ramboy 314 4:01PMIt’s gonna be a long wait for you on Khan.
by jthomas 4:02PMA lot of the Mock Drafts by so called experts have the Rams picking a WR at one or 2. I thought the Rams were happy at WR ..What gives?
by studebaker 4:02PMYeah, and straight from the head coach, we thought the Rams were totally on board with Bradford at QB as well. (The mock drafts have been all over the place on the Rams. I’ve seen a variety of players, at a variety of positions picked for the Rams.)
by jthomas 4:04PMI’m born and raised in STL as many Ram fans are. If we lose the Rams and the Raiders come here how can I shift my loyalty and buy a PSL for them? I hate the thought that the NFL can think it can satisfy this market with a team just any old team will do. We love the Cards and Blues because they have a history here. That’s what we have with the Rams and the Greatest show and Super Bowl.
by Terry 4:05PMI know it won’t be easy. But wouldn’t you rather have the Raiders than no team at all?
by jthomas 4:06PMI’m with ramboy, why are we voting, lets get this thing done, can’t Jim thomas push this thing through
by pbilwl1 4:06PMWhat are we pushing through?
by jthomas 4:06PMJim, I’ve seen a couple mock drafts with the Rams picking a DE. These things seem to assume that the Rams let Chris Long walk after this year. How likely, in your opinion, is that to happen? I consider him a pretty good DE. Obviously, he has a big cap number, but I’d think they’d be able to find something reasonable with him. Your thoughts?
by Holtville Ram Fan 4:10PMWell, Long is due a $2 million roster bonus prior to the start of the 2016 season. But I’m with you. I feel Long is a core player of the defense. Keep in mind, too, that the contracts of both Sims and Hayes expire at the end of the 2015 season as well.
by jthomas 4:11PMIf Philly ends up trading Bradford to Cleveland for a 1st round pick, would you have rather the Rams traded him to Cleveland or are they better off with Foles and the 2nd rounder?
by Tex 4:11PMFisher has said the key to him in the Bradford trade was getting a QB in return (Foles).
by jthomas 4:12PMIs it really conceivable that our starting OL this season might consist of a couple of rookies and another stopgap FA signing, like Davin Joseph all over again?? With the same results?
by Tom 4:12PMHope not.
by jthomas 4:12PMInstead of guessing in the draft, could the Rams trade the #10 pick to a team looking to move up in the draft for an established offensive lineman like Jason Kelce?
by Tackleberry 4:13PMWell, it would have to be a for a pretty good player. No. 10 overall is pretty valuable real estate.
by jthomas 4:13PMHaven’t seen any tweets from Chris Long regarding the Bradford trade. Have the players been banned from using twitter.
by ramsfan 4:13PMI believe he had a tweet or two on the topic right after the trade took place.
by jthomas 4:14PMWho do you take if both are still available Trae Waynes CB or Brandon Schereff OL?
by Steverino 4:14PMScherff.
by jthomas 4:14PMSeeing as how the Cardinals and Blues are working together to promote each other, why are the Rams not involved regardless if they are moving at the end of next season or not? Is the whole stadium/relocation thing such a hot potato that they don’t want to get involved?
by Den 4:14PMI believe Rampage was at the Cardinals’ home opener.
by jthomas 4:14PMFans will show because it’s the NFL! I believe from what I have read in St. Louis Post Dispatch and the LA Times, the Rams are headed back to LA! But what I don’t get is this lawsuit against the City of St. Louis or the County? Really, like let’s stall this Stadium issue another 6-8 months for more litigation! Just Saying, Bring the Raiders here!
by Ed 4:14PMThe lawsuit is an attempt to speed things up, not drag things out.
by jthomas 4:15PMThe Giants are noted for sticking to a best player available when drafting. How much or little do the Rams believe in this strategy? Meaning, if the Rams take a CB in the first round should I scream or trust they know what they are doing and took BPA?
by Uncle Leo 4:15PMWhen in doubt, scream.
by jthomas 4:15PMJim – When Stan presents his LA stadium proposal to the league, he will very definitely be declaring his intention to move the Rams, yes?
by McGarrett 4:15PMCertainly by actions if not by words. Couldn’t agree more.
by jthomas 4:16PMOverall, pre-draft, how would you rate the Rams off-season performance? The Cignetti hiring was incredibly underwhelming, even if practical, and the they have failed to address their biggest weakness so far (O-Line) while padding their shiny toy defense with depth.
by Tackleberry 4:16PMDon’t forget the re-signings of Britt and Kendricks. I think they were both good re-signs. But right now? At this moment? With nothing done on the O-line, I’d grade the Rams in the C range on the offseason at this point.
by jthomas 4:18PMWhat do you see being the biggest roadblock in getting the stadium deal done? Do you think it is lawsuits, politicians or beaucracy? Also, do you think progress has been made in the last few weeks or it is standing still?
by Brad 4:18PMIt’s the financing. Yes, there has been progress made in the last few weeks.
by jthomas 4:18PMWhat is your feeling on attendance at the dome next year? Assuming that a decision on the move has not been official, I have a feeling that there will be more support next year than in previous years. Do you get the same feeling or am being optimistic? Of course, a 1-3 start will dampen any enthusiasm.
by Vern 4:19PMI think it will be about the same at the beginning of the season. And then what happens on the field, and what happens in terms of the potential LA move will affect attendance the rest of the way.
by jthomas 4:19PMjim, I have heard talk tavon might be on trading block have you heard anything on this?
by ramwrap 4:20PMI think I’ve seen what you’ve seen.
by jthomas 4:20PMDo you think any of the coaches or team execs read these or other fans’ chats?
by Tom 4:21PMSome do.
by jthomas 4:21PMIf the Rams return to LA, do you think they will try to honor former season ticket holders in terms of seat locations? My family had 8 season tickets since 1950, and when they left for STL, they were on the 50 yard line, at a perfect height. BTW, we didn’t even get a postcard saying thanks for 45 years of support…..
by Tom 4:22PMThat would be a nice gesture, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one.
by jthomas 4:22PMAny chance, in this game of NFL team musical chairs, the Chargers move to STL? I, for one, would prefer that organization over the Raiders. Since we are all talking hypothetically.
by Steve 4:22PMI guess it’s possible. But I think the Chargers would bring more to the table in LA _ especially in a pairing with Kroenke.
by jthomas 4:23PMWould you regard Barksdale as the long term solution at RT, if he is re-signed?
by Tom 4:23PMIf by long-term, you mean the next two to three seasons _ yes.
by jthomas 4:23PMAs the team stands right now, do you think they have enough to reach the playoffs? If not, what more will it take?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 4:24PMI do think they can contend for the playoffs in 2015 with a healthy Foles and if they get the O-line straightened out.
by jthomas 4:24PMI just have a good feeling Peacock gets it done in STL and we keep the Rams
by Billy 4:24PMThanks for playing Billy.
by jthomas 4:25PMAre there any players on the Rams whom you (or others), see and think: We can’t win a Super Bowl with [player] starting at [position]? (counting likely outcomes on the OL, I guess–Barksdale at RT, draft pick at OG, etc)
by c_good 4:25PMJust about every offseason, colleague Nick Wagoner and I play this little game of “the Rams have no chance if these five players are back on the team.” Those names shall not be revealed in this arena.
by jthomas 4:26PMjim, who are we kidding bottom line is stan can and do what he wants correct?
by ramwrap 4:26PMThere are penalties that can be imposed by the league. Loss of marketing revenue; loss of TV revenue. Huge relocation fee. No Super Bowls at that site. And we know Stan Kroenke loves his revenue.
by jthomas 4:27PMJim – While we’re talking jerseys, I have huge regret over not purchasing an authentic Steve Walsh #4 jersey on clearance. They had ironically marked it down to $4. Would I have been overcharged?
by McGarrett 4:28PMHe had some good moments in college.
by jthomas 4:28PMWould Peacock be a good owner for the Rams
by Billy 4:28PMHe would certainly have St. Louis’ best interests at heart.
by jthomas 4:29PMWhy do you think Fisher hasn’t been able to recreate the success he had in Tennessee?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 4:29PMCan I wait till the end of the 2015 season to answer that?
by jthomas 4:29PMJim, hypothetically the Raiders move to St. Louis. Would there be a possibility that it could be a similar situation to as when the Browns moved to Baltimore? Oakland keeps the team name, colors, and history. While St. Louis gains a fresh start team, i.e. The Stallions. I just feel St. Louis could rally around a new team, opposed to another potential “rental” team. Your thoughts, and as always thanks for the chats.
by G.S.O.T. 4:30PMI just think the Raiders would want to keep the iconic Raiders name and colors, however tattered in recent years.
by jthomas 4:30PMGeno Smith or Austin Davis ?
by ramsfan 4:32PMOK, this wins our out-of-left field award for the day.
by jthomas 4:32PMWhy on earth would NFL delete three viable markets (STL, Oakland, SD) and bypass 2 franchise expansion fees of $2-$3B each? IMO the endgame is hold STL, Oakland and SD feet to fire and get new stadiums. Then award SK / another developer expansion teams. That is the only way to maximize the pie.
by Mustache 4:34PMI have wondered why would you alienate 3 markets to placate 1. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.
by jthomas 4:35PMHey Jim, If the rams do not go OL in the first round, and draft a playmaker it’s pretty much assumed, that with their current O line situation that they would have to go OL in the 2nd. Would you go Ol in 2nd and wait until the 3rd for QB?
by bobh 4:35PMI think you’d almost half to under the scenario you present. And by the time the Rams pick in the third, Petty and Hundley could be gone.
by jthomas 4:36PMFinal question: is the CVC lawsuit against STL a positive or negative for stadium plan?
by Mustache 4:36PMBecause of the time frame we’re talking about, I think it’s a positive. I think it’ll add clarity to the situation, and I don’t think the suit gets filed if they didn’t think they could win it.
by jthomas 4:37PMIsnt it amazing three teams want to move to LA and build new stadium, but they don’t want to spend any money where they are at.
by philwill1 4:38PMNo, I think the Chargers and Raiders are willing to invest money in “hometown” stadiums.
by jthomas 4:38PMCan someone please playback for Demoff his comments to Ron Jacober? The ones where he said if STL built a stadium, the Rams would stay?
by Mustache 4:39PMRon Jacober? Then you’re talking 550 AM as well?
by jthomas 4:40PMA trial by combat involves selecting someone to fight to the death against someone chosen by the opposing party in the trial. If your guy wins, you go free/are found not guilty. That’s how they do it in Westeros.
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 4:40PMOK then, thanks for that clarification.
by jthomas 4:41PMJim…appreciate your considerable expertise and professionalism. Some major college football conferences have gone from seven man officiating crews to eight man. Do you think that adding an eighth man to the NFL officiating system could help in getting a better officiated NFL game?
by flagthrower 4:41PMMaybe. It is a fast-moving game and an extra set of eyes wouldn’t hurt.
by jthomas 4:42PMStanding in for the trolls here! Can’t wait till the Rams leave your dump of a city and come home! I mean seriously, why would they want to play in a city that has riots and stuff?
by ihtnep 4:42PMThanks for that. Now I feel right at home.
by jthomas 4:43PMIs the stadium task force counting on hundreds of millions from an owner to build the proposed stadium in STL?
by c_good 4:43PMYes. That’s how it’s done in the NFL these days.
by jthomas 4:43PMWhat do you think of the Rams drafting Vic Beasley in a Von Miller role?
by Fitz 4:43PMIt would seem to be a luxury.
by jthomas 4:44PMIf Scherff, White, and Cooper were gone at #10, and the Rams hadn’t signed any O-linemen in FA, would you draft CB Trae Waynes at #10 rather than Andrus Peat or L’el Collins?
by azpete 4:44PMFunny you mention that, a lot of mocks have exactly that scenario: Cooper and White gone at WR, and Scherff gone as well. To me, that’s a trade-down scenario, but only by a few slots.
by jthomas 4:45PMDo you know if Vermeil has visited Philips at anytime while he has been incarcerated?
by Sanks 4:46PMGood memory.
by jthomas 4:46PMHow long have you been answering the same question on relocation?
by Ron 4:46PMBeen posting odds, I’d say, for more than a year.
by jthomas 4:46PMWho would get your vote for must underrated player on the current Rams roster?
by Bartholomew Sikes of the… 4:46PMI think you’d have to have Kendricks, Harkey, Hayes, Sims in the discussion. But maybe you have to throw out Kendricks given his new contract.
by jthomas 4:47PMJim – Do you know how season ticket sales are going? Interested to see how many did the early renewal and took advantage of the incentives (discounted price & invite to the draft party event at Rams park)?
by Sanker 4:47PMI do not. I’ll try to check.
by jthomas 4:47PMJim when the schedule is released later this week I sure hope we don’t get screwed again by another Cardinal baseball conflict. That’s all we need is more empty seats on prime time.
by Terry 4:47PMI think we’re talking next week for the schedule. The NFL is arrogant enough to do just that.
by jthomas 4:48PMDo you ever talk football with Bernie?
by Boon 4:48PMOften.
by jthomas 4:49PMHi Jim, thanks for taking my question.
Draft related one – in your time covering the Rams in St Louis, who’s been the biggest draft bust, and why, and who’s been the best draft steal, and why?
Thanks
by Thelogan 4:49PMFunny you should mention then. Our updated 50-best and 50-worst draft picks will be posted on Stltoday.com in the coming days. I believe Phillips is No.1 on one list and Pace is No. 1 on the other. I’ll let you figure out which is which.
by jthomas 4:51PMOdds Rams end season in Seattle again?
by Tom 4:51PM80-20.
by jthomas 4:51PMHi Jim, thanks for the chat. Do you know much about Mr. Peacock’s ultimate goals? I’ve just been wondering if he has the resources/desire to become a part of an NFL ownership group or is he doing his work out of pure civic pride? Either way, we’re fortunate to have him.
by Waddles 4:52PMWhile he is not a poor man, I don’t think Mr. Peacock has the kind of “jack” as some would put it, to play in this arena.
by jthomas 4:53PMDo you think Arizona will be good this year? I could see them being really strong or kind of receding after their flirtation with NFL stardom last year before Palmer got injured.
by c_good 4:53PMYes. I’m a big admirer of Arians and Keim.
by jthomas 4:53PMFollowing up my prior question about the outdoor stadium, if PSL prices are based on Vikings new stadium, what do you think about modifying the construction to be more like the Vikings stadium with a lot of safety glass and natural light and windows that can be opened? doesn’t that seem more amenable to 64,000 people than open air with no shelter from sun, wind , rain, snow?
by azpete 4:54PMRoof would cost $200 to 300 million more.
by jthomas 4:54PMHow about Johnny football for a 7th rounder? QB of the future? Thanks
by Paul 4:55PMDid you say QB of the future or QB of the party?
by jthomas 4:55PMJim, I just sold two bricks to co-workers. I’m well on my way to the 2 million.
by Harry Dunn 4:55PMAttaboy! Keep it coming Harry.
by jthomas 4:55PMDo you suppose Tom with the 8 former tickets in la has any idea how expensive 8 PSLs will be on the 50 yard line for a Stan Kroenke team? I think he’ll find out how sentimental Stan is.
by Tom Bateman 4:56PMI’m afraid you’re right.
by jthomas 4:56PMany update on relocation fee? should be commensurate with increased value of franchise, no?
by mu mu 4:56PMI haven’t asked around about it lately. But I’ve been consistently told expect $500 million plus.
by jthomas 4:57PMI don’t need 8 tickets. Two will do! But you’re right about sentimental Stan.
by Tom 4:57PMOK then.
by jthomas 4:57PMWe seem to have a log jam in the secondary. In your opinion, who starts at what positions and who rotates in based on varying situations?
by I miss the GSOT 4:57PMI think the Rams will give Joyner another chance in the nickel back role, in competition with Gaines. I think that Gaines and Johnson battle for a corner spot opposite Jenkins.
by jthomas 4:59PMWhat do you do if Rams leave and no team moves here?
by steve 4:59PMAs I’ve said on many occasions, there’s no shame in covering high school football. That’s how I broke in.
by jthomas 4:59PMIn response to your earlier response, I think Britt is the pretty girl at the ugly prom. He is by no means a blow-off-your-doors #1 receiver.
by Tackleberry 4:59PMNo one’s saying he’s a No. 1.
by jthomas 5:00PMThanks for the chats JT@!! If Kevin Demoff is being “forced” to attend the new stadium talks, does he just sit in the corner, or is he taking this seriously? Does he give realistic input? Just wondering.
by Jim S 5:00PMI’ve been told he gives input.
by jthomas 5:00PMFWIW, the last year Fisher had the Oilers in Houston their road record was better than their home record. Some home games didn’t hit 20,000 attendance.
by Uncle Leo 5:00PMInteresting. Thanks for that.
by jthomas 5:00PMNow I’m all worked up over relocation how about a football question
I want the Rams to draft Scherff at number 10. I’m a strong believer of building your line before you worry about “playmakers”. What are the chances they land Scherff? And what about I want the Rams to draft Scherff at number 10. I’m a strong believer of building your line before you worry about “playmakers”. What are the chances they land Scherff? And what about Laken Tomlinson in the 2nd round? Tomlinson in the 2nd round?
by Terry 5:01PMI think you draft Scherff to play guard. And I have no problem with that even at No. 10. I think there’s some uncertainty if he’ll be there at No. 10. Yeah, Tomlinson projects as a second_ or third-rounder. Good run blocker, supposedly a little limited as a pass blocker.
by jthomas 5:02PMnow that the post editorial board has endorsed a stadium vote, what has been the reaction of peacock/blitz and the governor’s office? i haven’t seen any comments from either. what do you hear about their reaction?
by branford76 5:03PMWell, I don’t think they react to every development in this story. And I don’t think it’s going to change their plans.
by jthomas 5:03PMApril 15, 2015 at 2:53 pm #22717
znModeratorIMO these are some highlights
—
Who would get your vote for must underrated player on the current Rams roster?
I think you’d have to have Kendricks, Harkey, Hayes, Sims in the discussion. But maybe you have to throw out Kendricks given his new contract.
The Rams have drafted at least one running back in each of the 3 previous drafts during the Fisher-Snead regime. So it wouldn’t surprise me to see one taken by them this year.
I’d say they’re happy with Barron, and would like to expand his role in 2015.
I think the Rams will give Joyner another chance in the nickel back role, in competition with Gaines. I think that Gaines and Johnson battle for a corner spot opposite Jenkins.
Blalock is in no hurry to sign, I’m told by his agent, but I still think there’s a decent chance he’ll end up with the Rams.
What would you say the percentages are of the Rams re-signing Joe Barksdale?
55-45.
The Rams continue to have dialogue with Barksdale’s agent, but as of Monday nothing appeared imminent.
what are you hearing is Barksdale market value
Haven’t heard. But I’d be surprised if it was more than $4 million per year.
I think you draft Scherff to play guard. And I have no problem with that even at No. 10. I think there’s some uncertainty if he’ll be there at No. 10. Yeah, Tomlinson projects as a second_ or third-rounder. Good run blocker, supposedly a little limited as a pass blocker.
I think a healthy Bradford is better than Foles. But as to what Foles is, I’m not sure. Too small of a sample size. Is he the 27 TD/2 INT guy of 2013? Or is he the so-so performer of 2014 who missed half the season with injury? Or somewhere in between?
they did an admirable job getting the team from horrible to nearly-respectable, but can’t seem to make that next jump. They’ve certainly drafted better than they’ve fared in free agency.
I feel Long is a core player of the defense. Keep in mind, too, that the contracts of both Sims and Hayes expire at the end of the 2015 season as well.
Don’t forget the re-signings of Britt and Kendricks. I think they were both good re-signs. But right now? At this moment? With nothing done on the O-line, I’d grade the Rams in the C range on the offseason at this point.
I do think they can contend for the playoffs in 2015 with a healthy Foles and if they get the O-line straightened out.
Jim, if you had your pick of any draft player that you felt would help us the most, who would it be? Regardless of moving up or down, etc.
Amari Cooper.I’m not sure extra picks is what the Rams need at this point. They’ve had plenty of extra picks over the past few years thanks to the RGIII trade. I think they need quality over quantity.
What about QB Grayson?
Interesting guy. Accurate. Rams are interested.
Expansion is not on the horizon in the NFL. Patriots owner Robert Kraft made that pretty clear at the NFL owners meetings a few weeks ago. I think the Raiders would have interest in moving here. The team is financially strapped in Oakland with little hope of getting a stadium built there.
