(On the roster moves made today)
“Well, we actually did it yesterday. We placed (LB) Alec (Ogletree) on the injured reserved/designated for return. We feel like he’s got a shot, so we wanted to protect him. We waited a few weeks, just to protect the rest of the guys in the event that something went down. At this point, it’s important for us to do it from a timing standpoint. That created the roster spot. We brought (DT) Doug Worthington up as well as (S) Christian Bryant and then signed (DE/LB) Zack Hedges and (DE) Gerald Rivers to the practice squad. To get the extra spot, we released (LB) Jo-Lonn Dunbar. We moved it around a little bit just because we’ve got to get through practice and we’re just a little banged up. We’ll know more better in the week.”

(On electing to use the “designated to return” option now for LB Alec Ogletree)
“Yeah, so we’re going to take a shot with him. It’s good for Alec, too because it gives him hope and encouragement to come back.”

    (On if Ogletree is improving)
“We would not have done it had he not been getting better.”

(On the year CB Lamarcus Joyner is having)
“Playing a lot of snaps for us. Making a lot of tackles – a lot of knock em back tackles. He’s getting good pressure on the quarterback, breaking up passes, getting us off the field on third down. He’s a lot further ahead than where he was last year. Last year he went through the groin issue for a month or so. Of course, the things he’s doing on special teams are outstanding.”

(On Joyner taking a long, hard look at himself in the mirror after last season and asking if he was doing what he needed to do to be successful)
“We saw it from the time the offseason program started. He’s very dedicated. I’ll tell you this, he’s in early and stays late. It’s important to him. This job’s important to him.”

(On if offense was emphasized a lot in practice today)
“We just had a normal game plan install today. We’re trying to get better, but it wasn’t a practice dedicated to offense. We had our normal Tuesday afternoon jog thru. I thought it was good.”

(On his early impressions of San Francisco)
“’Kap’s’ (49ers QB Colin Kaepernick) legs are good. He’s running around making plays. Their defense is well coached. (49ers Defensive Coordinator) Eric (Mangini) does a really good job with defense wherever he’s been. They can get off the field. Their run game is special. (49ers RB) Carlos (Hyde) is running the ball well and (49ers TE) Vernon (Davis) is down the field. Looked to me like the old Niners. They just haven’t won as many games as they would’ve liked. Same thing with (49ersWR) Anquan (Boldin). He’s making plays and running after catch. The concern that we have is that they’ve had an extra three or four days, so we don’t know what to expect.”

(On if he thinks 49ers RB Carlos Hyde could be close, in terms of playing like former 49ers RB Frank Gore)
“Oh, yeah. Eventually he’ll get there, yeah. Keep in mind, Frank came off an injury and Carlos is carrying the load now. Carlos, he’s hard to get down. He’s got great vision. They spread you out and get the ball to him. Even in the passing game, he can just be a disruptive runner.”

(On if he thinks the 49ers are still doing the same thing on both sides of the ball schematically)
“There’s some subtle changes on defense, but it looks like it could work for the better with (49ers Defensive Coordinator) Eric (Mangini). But offensively, they’ve got a big play book and they’re doing a lot of things. They must’ve run four or five routes in the first quarter against Baltimore, just to try to get ‘Kap’ (Colin Kaepernick) out on the edge. So, we’re going to have to be edge conscious and smart and not give up the big plays down the field.”

(On if he’s going to keep tabs on the town hall meeting tonight about the possible LA relocation)
“Found out this afternoon it was going on. So, I’m focused on San Francisco.”

(On moving DT Doug Worthington to the active roster)
“Doug’s a big man. He can play the run. He’s stout. He’s smart. Yeah, we’re a little banged up there. I don’t know how things are going to unfold towards the end of the week. It’s almost November. November, people start running the football. You look at our schedule down the road here starting with this week’s opponent, they’re going to run the ball. Doug’s a run-stopper. He’s a load inside and he’s smart. So, keeping him active is going to be another challenge on the 46 (active gameday roster), but we’ll see how it goes.”

    (On releasing LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar)
“Jo-Lonn had been inactive. He’d been inactive since we signed him. So, we just had to move some people around in anticipation of some things this weekend.”

(On if he feels that he’s close to the blueprint that he wanted to have with the team since he took this job)
“They’re facets that I say we’re close, but we’re still big picture. No, we’re not. The whole group is not. We have to get more production out of our offense. So, that’s kind of where our emphasis is.”
