    SOME PRELIMINARIES

    ============

    ramBRO

Seriously. It’s A Sea of Blue & Yellow Out Here!

Ram Nation is representin’ in Oxnard!

Cowboy fan literally doesn’t know what to do as we outnumber him significantly today. We have the entire visitor side’s bleacherso occupied and I’m on ground level (3 deep behind other Ram fans).

Still working on unit drills. No team yet. Wait a second…the horn just went off and some of the Cowboy players are headed over. Rams RB’s vs. Cowboy LB’s.

Washington in for Saffold at LG. 67 at OC. No real tackling – just “thud.”

1st play – Mason off-tackle (right side) for short gain.

2nd play – play-action to Mason…Foles goes deep to Tavon who gets behind the Cowboy D for a long TD catch!

4 plays in and no flags yet! Ooops! Spoke too soon.

Foles Appears Late (Really Late) Over The Middle To Bailey. Cowboys come up with the INT.

Joint O vs. D Session Over For Now. Back to unit drills. Joint ST’s work going on on the far field.

Said there are a ton of Rams fans there…huge turnout.

Said the Rams have looked very good today overall.

I believe Rampage said he has taken a ton of photos (real camera) and will be posting later.

Told me about the play action play from Foles to Tavon for a long TD.

    Fresno was Vegas

I couldn’t get around to see what I wanted due to the crowd. So I just parked myself and watched what I could. My “takeaway” is two words.

    TAVON AUSTIN

The guy is absolutely RIDICULOUS! Stop and go, left and right, spin and move, there is no way to keep up with this guy. He makes people look completely overmatched. I’m serious. Tavon looked like the best football player on the field. You can’t cover him and he’s learned a little about getting off of press coverage. He uses his size to HIS advantage. Go head and press the little guy, he will slip around you and make you look retarded when he runs by you.
In drills Austin got pressed hard for a ball thrown into the corner of the endzone. Austin slipped away and hit a gear I didn’t know was humanly possible. He is FAST! The ball was thrown perfectly to the corner by Foles and it looked like it would drop incomplete because Austin got pressed. Austin hit another gear and went and got that ball for the score. It was unbelievable.
The cowgirls were tough on Austin in the drills, and he made them pay. Every. Single. Play. The TD Austin caught on the 2nd play of scrimmage was just Foles flinging it and Austin going and getting it.

Britt- obvious leader of the WR corps. Made some good plays. Looks steady and solid.

Quick- wearing a cap on his helmet to indicate injury. He can get hit but not tackled.
Quick is bigger than I thought. Uses his size well to shield defenders. Good camp today for Quick. One scrimmage play Quick caught a pass and several cowgirls stood him up and smacked him to the ground. Britt and Bailey attacked the defense and a small brawl ensued. The crowd loved it!

Bailey- I didn’t see him in scrimmage but he looks good in drills.

Givens- Made some play and looked good.
Cook- Dropped an easy pass, had a fumble on a different play. I didn’t see much else.
#15 looked decent but I don’t think he replaces Givens.

TJ Mac- My Fresno boy is the obvious leader of the DB’s. I watched DB’s more than anything since they spent the most time nearby. These guys love to hit each other. TJ and Ogletree seem to get along very well as does 52 and 12. Ogletree seems to command respect on the team. Players like him, he’s a leader.

At the suggestion of PF I watched some line drills. I didn’t get to see many but it was exciting at times. These guys were slugging it out.
There was a strange drill –
5 RAMS OL lined up, 1 cowgirl DL. QB in shotgun. First snap DL is against RT, next snap RG next snap C etc. OL and DL were rotating players. In that drill G Rob got embarrassed by 94 cowgirl. Other than that I noticed nothing to report.

FOLES- He looks like a QB. His ball has zip and he’s accurate. He trusts his receivers to catch the ball. The WR’s were getting pushed and held but Foles would fling it where they were supposed to be. Austin and Bailey really impressed me with escapability. Britt and Quick just shoved the defender out if the way. Bottom line Foles knows where to throw the ball and he’s not scared to throw it. I was pleasantly surprised by Nick Foles today.

If you think I suffer from “homerism” you are quite incorrect. I don’t suffer one bit.

Due to the crowd it’s hard to get around and see everything. I hope to see more tomorrow I wanted this little report to be about football rather than anything else.

    TSFH Fan

I can’t do a full report, so I’ll half-a it now and just add on to others later . . . . I’m sure where I’m wrong, others will correct.
My God, camps have changed since the last one I went to over 20 years ago. Twin fields, bleachers, beer gardens, concessions for a buck/two. Periodic music. A seizure in the select area. I thought it was a great turn out, but again it’s been a while since I’ve been to one of these.

Ordinarily, I’d say it was odd for the Mayor of Inglewood to be in f-ing Oxnard, but, yup he was there working the crowd with Fred and a TV lady.

Rams arrived in 5 buses with police escort, buzz from behind me was that they had been practicing at Oaks Christian Academy before heading in. They entered the field to much cheering, led by Fish.

    Quick hits:
Doing drills on both fields kept the action level up — especially when they ran the 4 passing drills all at the same time.
Zuerlein looked good shagging punts — go figure.
I thought Tavon looked good, but I wasn’t thrilled with his kick returns — he gave ground running laterally on one return and did his high kick thing on another. Got behind the defense on 11-11s and looked nice, imo, in goalline.
Quick in noncontact beanie, got contacted, semi-ruckus.
I have no idea about Gurley’s real medical status, but he was in running drills, and there was contact going on — I didn’t notice any contact on him, but there seemed to be a lot of contact going on.
About a 20 degree temperature drop during this.

Adding: I didn’t follow up on the StD sign ban over there, but here there were several Rams flags on display, a couple flying at the 50 (Rams field side) — the hard hat, sunglass older guy was in that area (you’ve seen the guy, I just can’t get the picture loaded). A couple others flying around. A couple others that people were walking around with. I saw that signs were also being attached to the front of the bleachers, but just didn’t get motivated to go down and look. I can imagine that the Blue California return BBTLAR shirts wouldn’t have gone over well in STD – there were a couple in my section and an older lady went out and got one.

The guy with the”Save the Bolts” sign got repeatedly booed. Some dude with a weird hybrid Cowboy/Mexico flag got booed by the Rams fans.

Big Stan Head sign guy was there. As I was walking in, I saw the guy holding the head (so to speak) on the ground, and heard a guy talking to him mention something about the reality of the Carson situation. Yes, it was Vinny, he was there. He gave me an odd look when I pointed my oldie camera at him and clicked, but whatever.

The second best arm the Rams might have could be . . . Jeff Garcia. It was just a swing pass drill, but I thought he looked good slinging it.

As for Nick. I just want someone to scream out the NSFW nickname for him from philly — Big D1ck Nick! Yes, one of the wonders of Reddit included a Philly teammate verifying/explaining that nickname. Anyhow, back on topic, someone mentioned his rainbow passes from the pre-season game — those bothered me. I was hoping to see him drive something. Today, it seemed like for 1/2 hour all he did was throw soap bubbles. He did finally did start driving passes later on.

I noticed and some around me also noticed that, dang, Cory Harkey can catch the rock. Who knows? New OC might mean new, expanded role for Cory.

Defense was on the far field so I didn’t catch much. But in passing drills, it seemed like our guys were getting burned.

The St Louis Rams gathered in Oxnard California today for a scrimmage against the Dallas Cowboys. Ignoring all of the political arguments of the crowds, the trolling, or Stan Kroenke showing his face, the Rams actually performed pretty well at practice. The Rams need all of the practice they can get, after their less than par showing at Oakland last Friday, it has been made apparent that this Rams team (that usually starts slow) needs to get as much work in as humanly possible.

The Rams started out by giving up eight pass plays in a row on defense. Janoris Jenkins got burned down the sideline for a 30 yard touchdown on the first play, not helping his case for the fans who want him gone. The Rams secondary still needs plenty of work before the season begins, and fans can already feel the loss of E.J Gaines before the season has began.

The Rams shined on offense, however. The receivers were able to return the favour and run around the Dallas defensive backs on multiple plays. The most impressive was Tavon Austin, who apparently “nobody could cover”. Austin caught multiple passes while being covered by multiple defenders, which included a 80 yard touchdown pass from Nick Foles. This is wonderful news if you are one of the many fans who have been waiting for Austin to shed his “bust” status and return to his former self. (Please see “Tavon Austin College Highlights” video for reference)

Foles was not perfect, he did throw a terrible interception, but most of the day was on point. The run game was effective as well, with a couple wonderful runs by Tre Mason. To end the day, Dez Bryant (who didn’t practice) apparently was very upset that the practice didn’t have more fights/ trash talk. Because who needs sportsmanship, right? I mean does anyone expect a player who wouldn’t show up for the first game of the season because he didn’t get a long term deal to act any differently? I’m not taking a shot at Dez, but it’s saddening if the report is true.

Regardless, it was a good practice that offered some real competition for the players. the Rams had a lot of hiccups, but for the most part, they seemed to improve a vast amount from the Raider game. Granted it’s just practice, but it’s still live football. The Rams have another scrimmage and practice in Oxnard, and then will play the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

    Camp Report 9-17-15

My first live report and to be honest, I was more hyped about seeing these guys in person….

First take, yeah these guys are massive…I mean, Benny Cunningham was one of the first players I saw…Calves popping….Some unknown wr looked solid too. Saw Harkey…Damn near as big as most lineman….

Second, got to respect any camp report as there is a lot going on at the same time. How to follow? Take notes? Impossible…Just put away in the old memory bank…

What I saw, two fields split with one on one drills our wr vs the Cowboys db’s….Our RB’s & TE’s vs their LB’s & safeties…Same set up on the other field…Almost impossible for the defense to defend a one on one battle. So a bunch of wins on offense….Defense was kind of far away, with a big star displayed on some type of riser like thing (tower) that guys were on filming. What I did notice, Tru is solid…JJ is too…Checked out Roberson & Joyner…didn’t see many breakups….

Our wr’s did pretty well in the one on one’s….Kendrick’s looked pretty good…Didn’t really notice anyone else….

Horn blows the line w/rb’s goes against Cowboy front…Just line play, no backers…Gurley’s in this and seems to be half speed…Nothing to see really…Gurley, he’s huge too… One on ones still going on…different area of the field….still, meh….

Horn again, 11 on 11….Rams O vs Boys D….Finally, only not real hitting…but first run stuff….think a bomb to Tavon occurred…I think it was second play of scrimmage. Then a nice run by Benny. Seemed like Foles was in a great rhythm…Also, Cig seems to really call up some dimes…IMO, Tavon & Cook seem like big play receivers…everybody else is possession types.. They can make a big one, but more outs, curls, & crossers…Harkey, Bailey, Quick, and Givens all catch a bunch of passes… The running game wasn’t looking dominant, but had its moments. Washington was starting… Barnes was too…I think… Everybody else was the same…

2nd team O-line…ah well, can’t have everything…Depth is only important if guys go down…Not overly impressed with anyone…Donnal…Reynolds…but the group looks sloppy out there…So much pressure. Seem to be getting Davis ready for more time this next game… He took a bunch of snaps…Mannion & Keenum barely noticed them…In drills, Mannion throws a much better ball…

One of the last plays of 11 on 11, Quick catches a short pass, turns it up, only to be blasted to the ground. It almost popped off a brawl…But Fisher (Garrett was on the other field w/ his offense) talked to the troupes….Funny, the crowd was waiting for it, but the intensity was nothing like a game.

Defense…couldn’t see much…but I did see a #49 maybe…break something up…probably Roberson… Roberson, Jenks, and Tru Johnson are solid…The run defense looked pretty good, funny cause that is supposedly the next great wall of Dallas… No Murray, big problems…No Dez, bigger problems… Saw Dez doing the bungee stuff off to the side…He looked fine to me…

Saw Saffold…he’s okay…precautionary probably…..All in all, we match up well, physically, with anyone…
Again, it didn’t appear like everyone was going all out, like in a game..Almost a silent understanding to go easy…And, IMO, we look like a much better team than Dallas…

If I think of anything later, I’ll add it…any questions, if I can I’ll answer…
