I watched G.del Toro’s “Crimson Peak.” He calls it a ‘gothic romance’ with ghosts. The movie is visually lush and beautiful like a lot of his movies. Great attention to detail like a lot of his movies. Lots of symbolism, like a lot of his movies. But the script is just awful. Because of the bad writing its a bad movie.
But.
The commentary is just outstanding. If you like film. And you like gothic stuff, get the dvd and forget the film but watch the commentary. Really good stuff. …ps, he saw his film as a kind of feminist film. Strong women characters according to him. He tried to turn some standard gothic ideas on their heads. I dunno though. Didnt seem like he accomplished that to me…
