On the last drive, Carson Palmer leads the Cardinals inexorably downfield but the defense stalls them and they get a final chance at the end zone from the 25 with three seconds remaining. Palmer drops back, heaves it into the end zone right into the hands of Larry Fitzgerald…

    ”’who drops the ball.

    Rams win.

Very plausible until you said Fitzgerald drops the ball.

This is a mirror of Jim Everett’s first game as a Ram against the Patriots in 1986. Only the receiver held on to the hail mary.

The Rams go into AZ and drop a log, falling behind 13-0 after one quarter. Keenum looks dreadful – like Steve Dils. Fisher sends in the rook, who throws three touchdowns and has LA (still feels weird writing that) leading late in the fourth, 27-21.

The play calling at times was very good. The shocker was the 3rd and 11 from the five and they try a kill shot?

    Very Un-Fisher-Like.

Anyway, the team still has a ways to go, starting with the run blocking. But I’ll take 2-1.

“he did catch the defense a couple times deep. and if not for at least one miscue could have even hado a td.”

Yes! He could have had one of those TD thingys! It would have been remarkable!

Given that Keenum has the accuracy of a drunk doing his business in the local dive bar, I’d keep Goff in the class room but start Mannion. Really, he would add the element of the unknown to opposing DCs, which might just spring Gurley.

A couple of things are wrong here. The payload of a Titan, as stipulated by arms agreements, is a single nine megaton warhead. The Clinton’s would have seen the flash and maybe a little heat blast, but would have been unscathed. The death toll would have been a measly hundred thousand or so outright.

    Welcome back, Chuck Knox!

    And…told ya!

I boldly predict the Rams go into Tampa and eke out a win with a safety after the punter tries a fake drop kick field goal from his own endzone.

? Chuck Knox would have run the ball.

The Rams set up their points by passing the ball. The run was not gaining ground though they smartly stuck to it. But if they didn’t and couldn;t pass they would have no offense, and therefore no field goals to show for it. And they did that against a top secondary.

I was mainly referring to the score.

The Rams seem to be able to come alive after being dunked by inferior opponents.

    At least I’m hoping.

I want to dispel this myth once and for all.

Rams threw deep with Keenum every game he was in last year. He has done it and therefore he can do it. The numbers back this and the game vids back this.

    Goff ain’t ready.

Keenum doesn’t have it and obviously Boras doesn’t trust him throwing vertically. Or, more likely, Keenum doesn’t trust himself.

    Fuck me…start Mannion this week.

i said this briefly on the game chat, but my prediction is the rams start goff game 5 against buffalo.

to me i interpret the lack of mid range passing game and lack of any sort of vertical passing attack as a statement of belief in keenum’s lack of ability. it’s pretty apparent that they do not want to put any kind of significant responsibility on his shoulder.

but goff needs time and seattle and arizona are going to be brutal games.

give him another 4 weeks to get him up to speed and insert him against a relatively easier defense in buffalo. then depending on how things go maybe we see them open it up a little.

but keenum’s in for a rough ride the next three games. good luck, case!

With all due respect, the team will be 0-4 and I’ll be (hopefully) transitioning to the Giants in the NLDS and Sharks hockey…

Oh. And with Goff, do you really think they’ll go vertical and away from horizontal?

In my 46 years as a Rams fan, this one was one makes the top ten of galling losses.

Once again, I was fooled by the pre-season. They mixed it up, made some plays and Keenum looked good. Then, they curtain went up for real, and in true Fisher fashion, the play calling went all 1970’s. I mean, the 49ers put 10 guys on the line a few times, daring Keenum to beat them with his arm…didn’t Fisher see that? Does the word “creativity” come to mind? And did they try even one deep strike to keep the Niners defense honest and give Gurley a fighting chance?

Nope, offense is not in his repertoire.

Jesus Christ, he won’t change. And this is all Fisher. I remarked on JT’s chat today- “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result.” God, it’s going on five years. Five! Kroenke, brilliant and ruthless as he is, cannot be in the midst of re-upping this guy. He needs to be set out to pasture.

The real surprise was the defense. I thought they played well going into the the 4th when the game was still in question. The three dropped pics, two of which would likely have gone for six, really hurt…but the offense killed the defense last night.

Next up, Seattle. I can just see Wilson, bum ankle and all, doing enough to put 14 on the board. Which will be enough against the Rams. Then comes a resurgent Tampa team followed by Arizona.

This was pathetic. 0-4 is a real possibility.

    Where do I start?

Oh, Alex Jones. Anti-vax, anti-science, a completely delusional, unhinged conspiracy theorist. #197 in the Encyclopedia of American Loons. And his Natural News site is THE worst page on the net.

Edit- Mike Adams runs Natural News. He’s as bad as Jones, though. My bad.

As far as the Pickle Jar test….bullshit. For over 30 years I opened jars for my wife when she was healthy. I also untangled her necklaces. That, my friends, takes epic patience and I award myself the Blue Ribbon of Husbandom. It should be a Presidential Litmus Test.

Conspiracy Theorists. I know a few. I find them fascinating. If I said, “Humpty Dumpty was pushed” and offered no evidence, they would agree. I’ve tried curing them by applying Occam’s Razor. No luck at all.

    Greed.

Yep. As many of you know, I live in the BA. I felt for the fans in LA in 94 and I feel for the fans in the STL today. Let’s face it…we’re all pawns for dollars. This is the reason why I don’t buy much NFL gear. A hat here, maybe a jersey there. I do spend the dinero for Sunday Ticket..every other year, when I can threaten them with Comcast or ATT Uverse and get it for free. And when I do see the Rams live here in the South Bay, I drink a few beers pre game and they’re lucky to get $20 for the two I buy in the stadium.

See, back in the 80’s my dad told me stories about Georgia Frontiere. As told to him by Marv Goux, the defensive line coach under Robinson. They had a bond. Goux knocked out my dad in a high school practice at Santa Barbara High in the late 40s.

I cannot go into detail, since teams monitor every board, even a small one like this one. I found this out a couple years ago, to my great consternation.

It’s all about greed in sports. Even the Olympics. Nobody’s hands are clean. The players, the owners, the fans.

    Greed.

Fuck em all. But I’m still gonna watch.

I watched the game- Goff is like a bone in chicken after 30 minutes in the oven. You know it’s going to be good, but he’s just not ready yet. I really hope they don’t start him at Levi’s. Too often teams throw a kid in there too early and wind up destroying him. The Rams now have a talented roster and can be patient, unlike the Bradford era.

I was impressed by Keenum- usually I’m not. He’s Blaine Gabbert. But I now agree with the consensus- He can guide this offense efficiently until Goff is ready take the reigns. I really wanted to see more of Mannion, though. We know what we have in Keenum.

After two games, I think it’s clear the guy they hired to design the passing game knows what he’s about. We won’t see the offense go all Chuck Knox this year. The Rams mixed things up really well.

Now let’s see how the D goes next week.

In my opinion, this serves two purposes. One, to cleanse ST. Louis from the franchise. Two, it’s really hot in LA even in December. White reflects heat, right? And they probably want the opposition to fry.

I just hope that in the few games they don’t wear white jerseys (most teams play in their dark jerseys at home), the raspberries stay locked away.

yes, we’re still in San Jose,

    $600K wouldn’t get you much here…..

like ZN says, SFW about Bernie’s house price….

You’d get a nice townhouse near Cottle. You know, those new ones whose residents are going to fuck up my commute even worse than it is now. 87 end to end. 45 minutes.

And you’re right. A president REALLY, REALLY can’t go off. As much as the red meat crowd would love it if President Trump insulted the French, and the Germans, and the Japanese, and Whoever, it’s just….

I cannot believe that Hillary Clinton is actually preferable to somebody else. But she is.

When Clinton ran against Obama, didn’t she say he could be removed from the race the same way RFK was or words to that effect? Even someone as coldly calculating and measured in their comments as Hillary Clinton is can make those mistakes.

    That does ring a bell.

And watching her laugh about killing Kaddafi is chilling, actually. “We came. We saw. He died…ha, ha, ha.” WTF is going on?

You’re right, Clinton made similar comments about Obama in 08.

    http://www.snopes.com/hillary-clinton-rfk-comment/

And it goes back even further. When EMK announced his run against Carter back in 79, 80, Carter immediately assigned SS protection to Kennedy, sparking outrage.

I have a hard time taking Trump seriously no matter what comes out of his mouth. The thing with him is, he says whatever pops in his mind in the last second…He cannot help himself (I had the same problem early in my marriage- I recognized this flaw in the earliest days of his campaign.). I don’t for a second believe his words implied violence of any sort. More like blowback from gun advocates if she picked justices who may erode the 2nd in any way, shape or form.

That said, if elected his lack of disciplined thought and speech is dangerous. The president speaks for the country, his\her words are interpreted as policy and position, particularly overseas. That’s what scares me.

Goff went to UC Berkeley for chrissakes. UC Berekeley has a high bar for entry. I was stunned he didn’t know where the sun rises. It was slightly disturbing, really, but I work with young people – high school kids – and it is hilarious what they don’t know at times.

I borrowed HBO Go from a friend, and watched this last night.

I liked it. But there is no WAY I would waste time on this show if it wasn’t the Rams. It isn’t that interesting unless it’s your team.

I smoked a lot of pot in high school. A LOT. But I also read a lot of books, too. Anything I could get my hands on. That’s how I learned to tell the time of day by placing a stick in the dirt. Had to be at least six inches, though. And yes, I knew at a very young age, no matter how stoned I was, in which direction the sun rose.

    Kids today. Sheesh.
