ParticipantMy response: Integrity of the game? What integrity? It’s played by a bunch of malcontent, maladjusted, violent thugs for the most part who are druggies, rapists, murderers, spousal abusers, on and on.
And we love the game because the uniforms hide it all.yes, but these charges you note (unless it’s enhancement drugs) do not affect the integrity of the game, meaning it doesn’t give the team or player an edge….
NFL Arrest data base = http://www.utsandiego.com/nfl/arrests-database/
outside of Quinn, Trumain Johnson, Dunbar (charges dropped) the Rams are goodie 2 shoes…… I don’t count pot arrests, since it’s legal in 2 states and consider the physical punishment that these players take, i’d give them pass to hit the bong once in awhile.

Participant
All of that said, cheating is still cheating. The Colts were playing by the rules, and they also were trying to get to the Super Bowl.

Baltimore was also trying to get to the Super Bowl and only lost by 4… you can’t help but think that those balls most likely weighed 2 lbs PSI less in the 2nd half against the Ravens when the Pats offense got hot.

ParticipantHappy Birthday RM….
BTW, is pickem pool ready for next week???? haha.
have a great one!
joemad
ParticipantSeems to me that Bill Belichick is a habitual cheater….. .. Like I said on this thread earlier, Carroll (especially back at USC) and Belichick push the envelope to get away with all they can.. no coincendence that their teams are #1 and #2 respectively in penalties this year… they’re only flagged when they get caught.
deflating balls………I see this like a pitcher doctoring a baseball, you get suspended for pulling that shit.
joemad
Participant;Actually my guy @kurt13warner didn’t tamper w the footballs because he wore gloves. Used to irritate me..So correction, almost all QBs!
1) Maybe Leinart did this at USC with cheating Pete Carroll
2) If Leinart did this in the NFL, it certainly didn’t help him.I think all this talk is firing up New England… I think they’re going to cream Seattle. R. Wilson played like crap last week……

ParticipantI heard that the 12th ball was the punter’s ball and filled with helium at 15 lbs PSI.

ParticipantWell, i dunno. The post spygate team went 16-0. And came within a miracle throw/catch
of going 19-0 and beating the Giants to win it all.I just cant minimize that kind of excellence.
I do enjoy loathing them, though.
But i cant dismiss them as ‘cheaters.’w
vBut when you win…errr out score your opponent in 3 Super Bowls by 3 points vs the Rams, Panthers, and Eagles, all it takes in ONE 3rd stop in each game to make a difference in the game. If you have illegal tapes to help your defense make that 3rd down stop, you win, err outscore your opponent.
I wonder if Brady benefited from deflated football vs the Ravens last week? 1st time all year, the Raven allowed someone to throw for over 400 yards….
Check out Jerome’s thoughts on Spygate:joemad
ParticipantCheaters prosper BIG TIME in Goodell’s NFL ………..
New England Playoff record during spy gate:
14 wins
3 losses
3-0 in Super Bowls
.824%Post Spy Gate
4 Wins
5 losses
0-2 in Super Bowls (0-3 if you count loss to 85 Bears)
444%Pete Carroll is not free on this either….. Cheated big time in USC, left program in shambles, USC football BANNED from bowl games for 2 years, forfeit last 2 games of 2004 season.
2014 team leaders in penalties in the NFL….
Seattle # 1
New England # 2.Bending and breaking the rules pays big time in the NFL.
I am not pro QB, but anyone can throw a slightly deflated ball with more zip and farther downfield than one inflated to 13 lbs of air.
joemad
ParticipantSo where are the other 9 big plays of the season?
the biggest play of the regular season was the pick Shawn Hill threw right before half and agrivatted his leg vs the Vikings. big momentum turner in game and season.
2nd biggest play was Shawn Hill’s int in San Diego.
joemad
ParticipantI remember the clock mis-management right before half…. I couldn’t believe that happened.

Participant1) this guy has less 100 pass attempts in College.
2) a QB needs good study habits: “”””Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain’t come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS ”
—Cardale Jones, Twitter: October 5, 2012
3) There has been no NFL QB worth a damn in the NFL from Ohio State….. see Joe Germaine and Art Schlichter.
Any QB will look good with Zeke Elliot rushing for 249 yards and Oregon Choking in the redzone, Ohio State didn’t win because of Cardale’s 58 passer rating.

Participantmy perception from Warner in recent seasons is that he feels more connected to the Cardinals than he does with the Rams.

ParticipantI like Schott actually. But either way, they ain’t gonna hire Martz, I bet. Anyway, onward and upward…we’ll see what they do.
I like him too… look at the last game against Seattle, he did the best with what he had…… Hill throws a pick at a DL. …. Cook drops a sure TD in the endzone, on the same series, Cunningham gets the ball swatted at the goal line. Game was winnable, not Schotty fault at all.
Too bad.

ParticipantJust a quick discussion inciting hit on this.
My criteria = 30+ TDS, 90+ qb rating, less than 2.7% INTs. Have to have all 3.
Another important criteria for me is comeback wins, but that’s harder to do statistically.
So who has all 3 of the above criteria.
This year it is 8 (alphabetical order): Brady, Brees, Eli, Luck, Manning, Rodgers, Romo, Rothlisberger.
Qbs whose teams made the playoffs though the qb himself does not make that list: Newton, Dalton, Stafford, Flacco, Wilson.
Brady, Luck, Peyton, Romo, Rodgers still alive with those impressive numbers.
I was really impressed with Luck and Flacco last week. I like those QBs a lot. I think Flacco is the most underrated QB in the league.
Do you think Bradford can meet your criteria if healthy? I do…..

January 5, 2015 at 1:22 pm in reply to: according to you what are the best & worst games of 2014 #15555joemad
ParticipantThree best:
Wins against Seattle and Denver and in SF. Sacking CK so much helped the SF game get on that list. Worst losses: Dallas, KC, SD. All for different reasons. The Dallas game, gave it away. The KC game, I thought the Davis experiment was over but they seemed to stick with it. SD, because they could have had it but whiffed.
Wins vs Seattle, Denver and SF.
Worst, Vikings, KC, and AZ games.

ParticipantI don’t recall ever seeing a ref announce a penalty on his microphone, then huddle with his refs to pick up the flag…..
huge play in that game.

ParticipantKroenke hasn’t received any authority from NFL owners to move his team, and he’s already planning to build a stadium there. Hmm. It sure looks like he’s paving the way to move to L.A. Is the NFL OK with that type of maneuvering without formal approval? Or, has he received some back channel support for his development/stadium?
Interesting note: The report says there are no tax dollars needed. We all know that Kroenke could build something in St. Louis with no tax support, too, if he so wished. And, yet, Kroenke has made no moves to create a similar development in STL.
So. I think no matter what happens, I’d say we can see that Stan’s has plans for L.A., and none for St. Louis, yet.Help me understand. I’m just curious…..
1) Did STL ask the NFL for authority to build the TWA Dome to lure an NFL team?
2) Did STL, which was overlooked for expansion by the NFL , upset the NFL by proceeding to build a stadium without a team?I think Stan will get the support from the NFL and NFL owners for obvious reasons.
1) The fan support has not been in STL to put people in the seats in recent seasons.
2) You’re moving an NFL team from the 22nd market to the 2nd largest market, that will put money in all the owner’s pockets.
2a) In 2012 Time Magazine ranked The Dome as the 7th worst major sports stadium in the USA
2c) In 2008 SI ranked the Dome as the worst NFL with particularly low marks for tailgating, affordability and atmosphere. This is ranked below 50 year old dinosaurs like Candlestick and Oakland Co.
3) The NFL and the TV networks want a team in LA.BTW, I have a friend at work that has a connection with the Walmart empire. He told me months ago that the move to LA was a done deal. It was just a matter of finding additional parking lots when Stan bought the initial 60 acres of land in So Cal.. I think this is it.
December 29, 2014 at 11:20 am in reply to: Russ Lande explains why cutting ties with Bradford is best option for Rams #14907joemad
Participantwhat QB out there is a better option that Bradford? Sorry, but Andrew Luck is not available.
Ryan, Kapernick, Brees, Rivers, Sanchez, Cutler, Smith, are not playing next week.
1) there are no playoff guarantees with high profile QBs.
BTW, all these guys, with exception of Kapernick, have a history of injury.
2) more often than not, QBs get hurt.
If you bail on Bradford, another QB is just as likely to get hurt.
December 29, 2014 at 11:12 am in reply to: Yep, about what I expected: Seattle game reactions #14906joemad
Participantyou can blame Cunningham on the fumble.
Hill’s int was a bozo mistake…
We’ve seen Cook do that before
but it was good to see the Rams battle in this game. Seattle was playing to win that game in one of the toughest places to play an win and the RAMS battled the full game.
it was a shame that Cunningham’s fumble happened. it would’ve been fun to see the last 5 minutes of the game

ParticipantCutler is simply not a winner.
I agree with Jack P Miller, I think to Tampa with Lovie.
“””””Under Cutler in 2011, the Bears went 7–3, and were on the verge of a playoff berth. Offensive coordinator Mike Martz was commonly criticized for aggressive play-calling in 2011, and the calls for a pass-happy offense led to Cutler getting repeatedly sacked, including an incident in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints, in which Cutler was sacked 6 times, and was also kicked in the throat.[83] The issue caused Cutler to say to Martz, “Tell him I said fuck him!” in a game against the Minnesota Vikings.[84″””””””

ParticipantMac, help me understand, what am I missing here on the priviat funding of the stadium be built specifically Levi Stadium because my homies in the SC City council are taking a ton of grief for the stadium funding….yet you’re stating this was privately funded……..
Financing and construction[edit]
In December 2011, the Santa Clara City Council voted for an agreement that calls for the city’s Stadium Authority to borrow $850,000,000 from Goldman Sachs, Bank of America and U.S. Bank. This will cover most of the construction costs, with the remainder to be made up via funding from the NFL, a hotel tax and city redevelopment funds. Interest, fees and terms for this loan have not been disclosed.[53][54] The $850,000,000 building loan, plus interest and fees will be assumed by the City’s Stadium Authority, where additional interest and fees will be applied. On February 2, 2012, NFL owners approved a loan to the 49ers of $200,000,000, for use in constructing the new stadium, and to be taken from a new G-4 stadium loan fund.[55] Terms of the loan were not specified, but under the previous G-3 plan, money was repaid directly into the league’s account from the borrowing team’s share of gate receipts from road games.

Brady, Rodgers, Luck, Russell Wilson, Flacco, etc…..guys that have established great study and work habits to prep well to pick up the complexities of the game.
Very few can rely on raw talent, maybe Brett Farve, but to be great, you need talent and the will to have a strong smart work ethic.
Do you think this Winston kid has these habits established? One of the things i started noticing about five or ten years ago or so,;was that the tv-celebrity-experts started talking a lot aboutpotential QB-draft-choices being “the face of the franchise” —meaning that the QB had to represent the corporate ‘brand’in a certain way. I’m not saying thats good or bad, just saying there was a change at some point in the NFL.I doubt tv-celebrity-experts were saying things like“Billy Kilmer needs to be the face of the franchise”.
wvI think it changed when QBs stopped wearing the single bar face-mask…. (just kidding)
good GMs / coaches or great franchises won’t buy or fall for the hype.
Look an Manziel. that guy was dropping like a rock in the draft, then he calls the Browns and begs to be picked, and they did….. That’s why the Browns sucked for so long, their GM, Owner or whoever picked him based on a phone call. I don’t think the Pats or perennial winner would do that.
I blame Melvin K.
While general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, Tobin gained some notoriety during the television broadcast of the 1994 NFL Draft after being criticized by ESPN analyst Mel Kiper for picking Nebraska linebacker Trev Alberts with the fifth pick in the draft, instead of Fresno State quarterback Trent Dilfer.
While being interviewed by ESPN later in the broadcast, Tobin famously said “Who the hell is Mel Kiper?!”[1] Tobin later called a press conference where he ranted about Kiper for several minutes, stating that Kiper had been biased against the Colts ever since they moved from Baltimore, Kiper’s home

Participantjust like Grits is brining up the 2nd largest market, you keep playing the abandoned city card. That happened in STL.
Yes, STL did build a stadium to lure a team, but the problem was/is, the stadium was outdated before it was even completed. There was nothing state of the art from the TWA dome.
Georgia left for a short term pay day…… We all knew that the team would be devalued for leaving to a much smaller market… Georgia got her payday from STL.
Business is profit, if you’re not making an optimal profit, you’re not in business. Selling tix for 8 bucks to see an NFL game is not a sustainable business model.. I can’t even get to see a High School game for $8.00.

ParticipantSt. Louis fans have suffered more than any other fans for more than a decade and at one stretch set the NFL record for futility over a three year period. When a decent product was put on the field the dome was sold out. Lately it could be St. Louis fans are tapped out from buying St. Louis Cardinals playoff tickets to watch the unbeatable LA Dodgers get beat again. What owners are going to give up huge franchise fees or the leverage on stadium upgrades an unnecessary existing franchise move to the LA market would deny? Why do you think LA deserves an existing NFL franchise after losing two NFL franchises in a years time while the NFL has continued to reap record profits in the 20 years since it left LA? Sorry the second largest media market excuse doesn’t fly since the NFL hasn’t lost money since LA was abandoned.
1) STL also lost a franchise and was overlooked for expansion when Jax was awarded a team.
2) you need to consider the ownership of the NFL teams that left LA… The Controversial Al Davis, who left Oakland when the Raiders had no attendance issues and he left LA back to Oakland on whim… More importantly, Georgia was the ownership team that left when John Shaw found a loop hole in Anaheim to leave So. Cal. when the local hockey team built the stadium.Gotta agree with GRITS,
1) Stan is the most powerful owner in pro sports, owns a professional Soccer team in the Premier League, and an NBA team and each case he owns the land for each of his teams, with exception of the RAMS
2) He bought 60 acres of land in LA
3) Hired a coach that also oversaw a move from Houston to Tenn.
3a) When Fisher was hired, Fisher asked for no move guarantee clause for the RAMS, Stan denied that clause.Per GRITS points, i’m not sure that the most powerful owner in professional sports wants to own the least valued NFL franchise. Winning seasons in STL will not cure that, but location and branding will.

Participant. I was at the Raiders Rams game where the crowd was heckling Banks and he was going to confront the crowd and Vermeil literally grabbed him and yanked him back to the sidelines. A lady in the crowd flashed him her T@@Ts.
I was at this game and saw this happen… my brother and I went to this game on the spur of the moment; we bought scalped tix and ended up squatting on some great seats…… …….behind the RAMS bench near Bern Brostek’s family from Hawaii….. I remember they told us he was going to retire….
late hit on Jeff George, (I think by Zgonina) was the turning point of that game. Jesse Hester had a huge drop late in the 3rd…..
it’s funny I can’t remember shit, but I can remember almost every event at almost every RAMS game I’ve attended or watched.
BTW the football stadium in Oakland is not a bad place to watch a game, but their fans are a bit crazy.
