Sounded like a job interview where the candidate is trying to impress…sounds green.

10:30 part of the segment on McVay’s thoughts on Goff was cool.

I hope McVay can lead, both the coach and QB are young and don’t have much seasoning….

Every vote like this is going to just kill the Reps in 2018. Trust me, people are keeping track.

    Waterfield Said:

Most-if not all -of my Republican friends think the DOE is just some small agency somewhere.

    Zooey Said

I think people care about things that personally impact them.

    1) MAC I don’t think people will keep track very long… very short memories. The majority of folks that I know that voted for Trump don’t realize or forgot how much of a mess the country was in when Obama took over, on the brink of economic depression, the US$ was in the tank, unemployment was high, if was a complete mess…… I ask people that complain about Obama, “what did Barry do in the past 8 years that affected you in a negative way?” they have no valid answer, in fact, some of these voters benefited from getting out of their foreclosures and ended up with new homes in the past 6 years and they still think democrats are bullshit….

When they tell me that they voted for Trump over HRC after Trump was the biggest ass on the campaign trail, they bring up Clinton corruption and email BS. I reply, the FBI doesn’t fuck around and will bust people as warranted, but they don’t get it. They don’t care that Trump U was a fraud, they don’t care that he went bankrupt 6 times, they don’t care that he grabbed pussy and marred a commie’s daughter… they don’t care….

    2) Waterfield is right, these people think president’s cabinet is something you install in your kitchen or bathroom.. they have no friggen clue…..they think Devos wrote and sang “WHIP IT”

    3) It’s gonna take a big fucking impact like the great recession of 2007… they don’t like women in charge and they don’t like minorities in charge, you can’t reason with these people, they blame ISIS in Obama and have no clue that Bush invaded the wrong country that spawned a lot of this mess.

I mean how could Bush II win a second term against Kerry?

Savage, Rush, Hannity and these right wing hacks successfully did their job and with explosion of social media, these people are getting news based on their ideals…..

These right wing voters are more loyal to the party than we are to the RAMS after 13 losing seasons…….at least we complain and are very critical about the Rams inept performances, these voters RARELY, IF EVER are critical of the people they voted for…..

Either way, Atlanta never had to be a clutch team all season. They were always front runners.
You;re not in clutch situations if your offense is outscoring teams by that margin all season. In fact there was only 1 game all year where the Falcons had to win the game coming from behind and that was against Green Bay’s mediocre defense. Yesterday in contrast Ryan was put in a clutch situation against a very good defense.

So I blame LaFleur for coaching the Falcons to be season-long frontrunners who never learned how to play in clutch time.

Sort of like the 2001 Rams…. …..ironically, one of the tightest games that the Rams actually won during the 2001 regular season was in New England…….the other 3 close games, the Rams lost to the Bucs, Saints and ultimately the Pats in the SB…

It’s a special skill to manage a game to win during crunch time…..Belichick does that very very well…..

All i know is, what was going on, on that field, was NOT
the kind of football that goes on when i watch the Rams.

Atlanta and New England play Pro Football.

What exactly do the Rams play?

    w
    v

ATL was 1 for 8 on 3rd down conversions.
    Penalized 9 times.
4 penalties resulted NE 1st downs.
relinquish lead in the 2nd half without scoring…

That’s pretty fucking close to Rams football……

And frankly I don’t buy this idea that he’s just a naive conduit for Bannon. Trump knew exactly what he was choosing in Bannon and there is no other candidate for office last year, in the primaries or since, who would give a Bannon the time of day.

I’m not sure that Trump picked Bannon. I think Bannon jumped from the Cruz / Fiorina sinking ship to bail out Trump’s campaign….

I think Bannon’s seat on Trump’s team was picked at the time that Bannon’s investment team bailed out Trump’s campaign… in otherwords, the deal with the devil was made at that time….

The lies fly out of the White House like flocks of pigeons: Donald Trump’s election victory was a landslide. He had the largest inauguration crowds in American history. Three million to 5 million undocumented immigrants voted illegally. Climate change is a hoax. Vaccines cause autism. Immigrants are carriers of “[t]remendous infectious disease.” The election was rigged—until it wasn’t. We don’t know “who really knocked down” the World Trade Center. Torture works. Mexico will pay for the wall. Conspiracy theories are fact. Scientific facts are conspiracies. America will be great again.

Our new president, a 70-year-old with orange-tinted skin and hair that Penn Jillette has likened to “cotton candy made of piss,” is, as Trump often reminds us, “very good looking.” He has almost no intellectual accomplishments—he knows little of history, politics, law, philosophy, art or governance—but insists “[m]y IQ is one of the highest—and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” And the mediocrities and half-wits he has installed in his Cabinet have “by far the highest IQ of any Cabinet ever assembled.”

    THIS IS FUCKED UP MAN!!!!

    1985 Rams defense ranked 4th.

Tied for #1 with Bears on average yards per play that season (4.4 yards per play)

Ironically, Kevin Greene left LA because Knox switch back to 4-3 based D and went to Pitt to play 3-4.

Pats favored by 3. I’m very surprised that number is that low. I expect that number to grow to 5 or 6.

Folks are comparing the ATL to the GSOT… 1999 GSOT defense was ranked 4th. 2001 it was ranked 7th…

    ATL D is ranked 27…..

    NE D is ranked 1

BTW, GSOT 2000 defense was dead last, so much for MAX Q….

Regarding color combo in the SB, the last 3 SB’s have been ugly

    SEA VS DEN = UGLY
    SEA VS NE = UGLY
    DEN VS CAR = UGLY
NE VS ATL = NOT AS UGLY.

Too bad the ATL dumped the Tommy Nobis red helmets. I liked those old Gritz Blitz ATL helmets….

the past few years, the Rams lost games that were winnable with better game day management, discipline and execution.

In 2016, Bills, Detroit, Panthers, Dolphins… all games that should’ve been in the win column….

It happened in 2015 vs Vikes, GB, Pitt, and SF

Faulk has a good eye for coaches. You know why he retired before the 2006 season? Because he had some dealings with Linehan and didn’t think he was ready to be a leader.

I didn’t realize that. Faulk is cool, I couldn’t stand Scott Linehan either….

We’re way overdue for a good program, I think McVay can do it.

Former Giants star Willie McCovey was pardoned by President Obama on Tuesday.

McCovey and fellow Hall of Famer Duke Snider pleaded guilty to tax fraud in July of 1995 for not reporting income earned from signing autographs and appearing at sports memorabilia shows.

McCovey had pleaded guilty to not listing about $70,000 in income from 1988-90. He was paid $33,000 in cash at a 1989 Atlantic City memorabilia show.

McCovey was one of 64 people who received pardons from Obama on Tuesday.

    Snider died in 2011.

Purdy: Millennial McVay should throw perf fleek into Rams-49ers rivalry

The grandson of a beloved Bill Walsh aide will write another chapter in the two teams’ joint NFL history

SEAN McVAY … Interview: Monday … Current job: Washington offensive coordinator … Background: Turns 31 on Jan. 24. Grandson of 49ers Hall of Fame executive John McVay. Served as Washington’s offensive coordinator the past two seasons, ranking 17th and third in total yards. Coached Washington’s tight ends 2010-13. Got NFL break under Jon Gruden as Tampa Bay Buccaneers assistant wide receivers coach in 2008. Spent 2009 with UFL’s Florida Tuskers. Did you know: He would be youngest-ever NFL head coach, and only third hired before age 32 (Harland Svare, 1962 Rams; Lane Kiffin, 2007 Raiders). Others interested: Los Angeles Rams

    By Mark Purdy | mpurdy@bayareanewsgroup.com |

    PUBLISHED: January 12, 2017 at 5:33 pm | UPDATED: January 13, 2017 at 3:13 am
While the 49ers continue to take a deliberate path on their search for a new head coach — which is tied to their deliberate search for a new general manager and deliberate search for a new Paraag Marathe personal barrista — their rivals in Los Angeles moved more quickly to fill their vacancy.

Thursday morning, the Men Of Horned Helmets announced that their clipboard leader would be Sean McVay, who is 30 years old and touted as the youngest head coaching hire in modern NFL history.

(By the way, was just kidding about the Paraag personal barrista, though it sounds like something that Jed York’s right-hand man would certainly enjoy as he’s doing whatever he’s doing while being criticized rightly or wrongly for stuff I’m not sure he’s doing or not doing but what the heck.)

I think the McVay decision is a risky one for the Rams but a very inspired one. It’s risky because of his age and inexperience, of course. But let’s also be fair to the guy. McVay is not going to be a 30-year-old NFL head coach. His birthday is later this month. By the time he performs and real coaching activities, he will be 31.

That still makes him a risk. McVay has been a semi-successful NFL offensive coordinator with Washington. That means he has been in front of the offensive unit to install plays and direct traffic. But it’s a huge jump to suddenly be in charge of the entire team. And while the Rams have a young roster, professional football players are a tough audience to impress, especially if you are (A) no older than them and maybe even not as old as some of them and (B) have never played in the NFL yourself.

McVay falls into both of those categories. He needs to look out for the players in the back of the room who might be snickering and throwing spitballs. Otherwise, his first season is going to be a long one.

At the same time, as I said, the choice is inspired. McVay has a fine football heritage and classic football genes. His grandfather, John McVay, was one of the most respected football men ever. After coaching the New York Giants, he joined Bill Walsh to solidify the 49ers front office during the team’s golden era. I covered the team during those years. Walsh not only used McVay as a sounding board and trusted confidante, he benefited from the sway that McVay held with owner Eddie DeBartolo. More than once when DeBartolo wanted to fire Walsh, McVay calmed the waters and kept the machinery humming. A 49ers Hall of Fame member, he’s now retired and living in the Sacramento area.

Sean McVay did spend some time around the 49ers while growing up, although this tells you how young he is: McVay says it was a thrill when he was “a kid” to be around 49ers players such as Jeff Garcia and Terrell Owens. They played long after the team’s last Super Bowl.

As another interesting side note, Sean McVay is a graduate of Miami (Ohio), which is not only the alma mater of his grandfather but also of John Harbaugh, Bo Schembechler, Ara Parseghian, Paul Brown and many other famous coaches. (It’s also the the alma mater of my wife and my two sisters, who didn’t really care much about football but led me to make many visits to the campus and learn the school’s athletic lore. Coaches are a big deal there.)

Mainly, I am excited about McVay’s hiring because it will inject a little oomph into the 49ers-Rams rivalry which, let’s face it, has seen better days and could use more adrenaline. I’m not sure who the 49ers will hire as head coach but he’s bound to be older than McVay (although not quite as old as the other two division coaches, Pete Carroll and Bruce Arians, who are more than twice as old as the Rams’ new youngster).

Can you imagine the taunts McVay will face when he comes into opposing stadiums? And if he turns out to be a true head coaching genius, think of the conversation and why-didn’t-we-think-of-that second guessing that will provoke among the 49ers and other teams.

I just believe that as the NFL’s first head coaching millennial, McVay will bring some real fleek to the NFC West. (“Fleek” is a millennial slang word that means stylish.) So I declare this to be the perf move by the Rams. (“Perf” is millennial shorthand for “perfect.”)

(Full disclosure: I do not speak millennial dialect myself. So I picked up these words from an online slang dictionary.)

I also know that somewhere in Sacramento, there’s a very, very proud grandfather.

Mark Purdy is a sports columnist for the Bay Area News Group. He joined the organization’s Mercury News in 1984 and has covered 14 Olympic Games, more than 30 Super Bowls and more than 20 World Series. He concentrates mostly on the Bay Area’s professional teams but covers all sports. He was there for the first Sharks’ game at the Cow Palace in 1991 and documented the team’s 2016 Stanley Cup playoff run.

the devil is in the details….. let’s hope that this guy can hire a staff that shares his analytics and level of detail (“nuances”) to convey to the players…. I think that has been sorely lacking under the Fisher regime…..

“I remember, in the first week that he took over, I was finally being coached intricately on some of the things that go into the tight end position. He taught every tiny nuance. I wish I would’ve gotten to work with him a lot longer. I loved all the coaches that I played for. I absolutely did. But I would’ve been better if I had worked with Sean for my entire career. I have no doubt about that.”
