Fisher isn’t one of those coaches who reacts to one play or one game with his QB’s. He’s just not. Fisher is steady. I agree with him. Stick with the plan. Hill is okay and if he has a couple of terrible games then of course we will see Davis.
I’m not seeing the playoffs anyway this year with these QB’s. They just need to improve as a team over time this year.
c1ramParticipantI finally watched the game and the run D was frustrating but thought it got better as the game progress. The frustrating part also was that the Rams really penetrated and got to the right place but the little Rainey guy just slipped under and past them. I give that guy some credit. How often did he find something out of nothing? Doesn’t excuse them for not having someone get an arm out to bring him down.
That said I am disappointed in the DTs at this point. I did think they would penetrate better straight ahead in the passing game and not give the QB chance to just step up in the “quiet middle” and survey the field (e.g. last play).

vI’ll be curious about that jury, WV. The ‘spare the rod, spoil the child’ was popular when I was growing up. It’s popular – especially in the south – and I’m not talking about fundamentalist government haters either.
I’m already communicating back and forth with people in my old middle-class neighborhood and they are instinctively taking up for Peterson. Some see it as an attack on their own upbringing. I keep going back to the point of “going too far” and it turning into abuse. But this is culturally different than the Rice beating his wife (little support for that).
There are a ridiculous number of social media testimonials about how so-and-so was saved from prison by thinking of the beating they’d get if they were caught. Giving your child a “whoopin” to keep him on the straight and narrow is still seen by many as a good, deliberate thing.

c1ramParticipantwe still have a lot to clean up. We made Bob Rainey look like Walter Payton or even Barry Sanders today. I’m happy we won, but our defense needs to work on stopping the run, and the short passing game, which we will see from most teams this year.
Liking this! First sign of a good team is fan construction criticism after a close road win over an average team. 🙂

vGrits was right.
Yes, I think so.
I’m having the “Grits Was Right” bumper sticker made now.
Davis did well under a lot of pressure. And man, he was clutch. I guess I’m ok with the feisty up-and-comer verses the old stodgy vet. I don’t think they are getting to the playoffs in this division anyway. Go for broke, this guy puts fire into things.

Based on overall talent, we have one of the 3 best teams in the NFL. We come out looking pathetic, is what I am saying, and it is against one of the worst teams in the NFL.No. First, you can’t count the “talent” without taking into account the inexperience – most of these guys are very young. Even then most outsiders look at one major pure blue chip talent on this team – Quinn – and most of the rest at average or even below. Now again that should change with time and experience but but right now not close when looking at every position.
In addition I believe Bradford would have gone to the locker room at half ahead of these guys and so the gusher would not have taken place. That’s just my opinion there.

c1ramParticipantIf Fisher pulled Hill because of anything else then I’m stumped. Hill was fine, I thought. I mean he made a terrible mistake at the end of the half but that would have been just all out panic by a veteran coach to do that otherwise.
c1ramParticipantTo me Robinson on the bench just means the Rams have some talent, depth, and experience on the OL. Robinson’s meant for the longer haul and so starting game one means nothing? What? We’re suppose to start him by virtue of his draft position anyway?

c1ramParticipantHe would have to pass through waivers then, right? He looks like an NFL player but depth (inc. Westbrook) and lack of versatility hurt’m. He may choose to sign with someone else.
c1ramParticipantYesterday I listened to a Lions fan call into SiriusXM and say they should offer up Stafford for Hill – he claimed that Hill was much more productive “when it mattered.” Well, that’s funny stuff. But he was not really bad with Niners. He was pretty productive. Not flashy or real strong armed but pretty smart, I thought, as a QB. I’m looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
August 21, 2014 at 7:55 pm in reply to: Brian Quick teaches Casey Phillips how to use a JUGs machine #4528c1ramParticipantI would love to have a JUGS machine in the back yard. That with a small batting cage/pitching machine. That would be the life.
c1ramParticipantYeah. It’s always nerve-wracking trying to get through the preseason without serious injury. Feel bad for Pead but this is hardly critical at such a deep position. But it’s football, it will happen. How deep are you? That’s a huge part of analyzing roster strength.
c1ramParticipantSB started a bit rusty with first long throw and being a bit high on the pass to Quick. But it was a nice throw indeed. The TD pass was all-pro and expect more of this in the regular season. (I’ve pushed the thought of injury out of my mind.)
Most complete and talented receiver core I’ve seen in a few years, easily in the SB era. Big guys too. Mr. Quick: welcome to the NFL, you’ve done it!
Vets Long and Saffold out, young guys moving about on the line, the running game was ugly but not worried about them. They will eventually be fine, barring major OL injury bugs Rams seem to attract. Mason will be good but will struggle blocking (missed a LB blitz block too, I think).
I’ve been hearing about what Westbrooks can do and, man, pretty impressed with this (post-draft) pickup. I can’t imagine him not making team.
No Laurinitas, Brocker or Jenkins and Williams won’t show all cards and first team D against GB (Rodgers) was toast. DL pressure was a bit disappointing; you could see it coming a couple times but I guess I expected a little more. I get the quick pass plays but at times QB had all day.

They will be the Inglorious Bradfords.

c1ramParticipantBailey. Yeah, nice.
From what I’ve seen the defense has some work to do, especially in the running game, eh? Clearly they will be putting a ton of pressure on QB’s. The response will be quick passes.
EJ Gaines looked no different than at Mizzou. Physical, great tackler. Occasional mistakes and up and down in coverage. I think he’ll be a decent pro player.
August 7, 2014 at 7:14 pm in reply to: Bernie: It's time to refocus expectations about Bradford #3517c1ramParticipantI was never quite that high on Bradford – never thought he was a Manning or a Brady coming out of school. I didn’t think he was a great first pick at the time. Many did, I guess, because he was number one, played well for OK, had a nice arm in the Big 12 and pro days.
I was actually surprised is looked as good as he did that first year. Made some plays at times I didn’t think he had in him. After that everything around him has been a mess and I don’t really blame him for it. The lack of an “elite” type of pocket poise, awareness, decisiveness, scannability etc. puts him somewhere in the middle of the pack right now but think that if the O stays fairly injury free SB will surprise many in the local and national media alike. I partly believe this because I think SB is a very good NFL QB when he stops the thinking and just “does” – the Yoda deal. He’s that good that he can. I’ve seen him bring the team right up the field and make big plays when there’s no time to worry about form and all that. This year – good OLine, bigger and better and improving and faster TE/WR targets, 3rd yr OC, etc. – maybe Sam can just get his groove on.
c1ramParticipantYeah. Quick if you can only choose one player, with Britt (or Britt/Quick). I expected little of Quick and a little more from Britt. Britt has clearly rubbed off Quick. Quick may have just decided it’s time to get off the pot. To me Quick was like a bonus – if it comes, fine but not expecting anything. I still look at him like a bonus but feel the early results are encouraging enough for me to think about getting that pool.
August 4, 2014 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Levi Stadium kinda sucks. "49ers' New Football Stadium Is a Dud" #3293c1ramParticipantWell, I’d say comparing football stadiums to baseball stadiums is always tough – baseball with it’s various dimension options and diamond shape field can has the opportunity to be architecturally inspiring. I know of few football stadiums – I can’t even think of names – that compare to a Fenway Park, Wrigley Field, AT&T, etc. Possibly Seattle has an interesting stadium? I guess Dallas is what it’s all about but that’s not really just a stadium – it’s an event outside of football.
Here’s a review from a friend of mine:
After working the first event at the new Levi’s stadium I have some advice for those planning on attending an event:
1) Get there early, really early, on the magnitude of 3-4 hours early. Mainly because the congestion in the area is really bad, but also for the clubs (assuming your ticket allows you entry into one of them.)
2) Leave your bags locked up in the car. The NFL has a strict policy, so if you do plan on bringing your purse in make sure you check their site first, as you might need to buy an see-through NFL bag http://www.nfl.com/qs/allclear/index.jsp
3) Jump on their free wifi. It’s supposedly the most advanced wifi grid in the world. They’re saying it can handle 70,000 people tweeting at the exact same time. Pretty nuts. Speaking of Twitter, if you post tweets at the game and #LevisStadium they might post it on the jumbo tron, which is very jumbo (200 by 48 feet)
4) Download the Levi’s stadium app http://www.levisstadium.com/stadium-info/stadium-app/ It has a feature like Google maps. It knows exactly where you are and will navigate you to any concession, bathroom, store, etc. You can also order food directly to any seat in the stadium, all 69,500 of them.
5) Avoid the museum and 49er store until after the game starts; otherwise it’s a madhouse.
6) If you can afford it, buy a ticket with club access. They’re all nice. The VIP clubs are Brocade and BNY Medallion. I heard someone say the rights to a seat in these sections was $80,000 and then a few hundred a game. So if you see one on Stubhub, grab it.
7) Forget driving home, stay at Hilton right next door to the stadium. You’ll save yourself the headache of dealing with traffic.
Lastly, just walk around and explore the place. It’s seriously one of the nicest stadiums you’ll ever see. If you don’t have club access you can always head up to the 7th floor Pepsi and Bud Light patios. They’re basically big open areas where you can hangout with friends while you pound beers and watch the game.

c1ramParticipantI’m higher on Givens but have heard a couple of negative things early on and then much better later. We certainly can see what he’s capable of – I still remember the heart he showed in 2nd Niner game of 2012 – but really wonder after last year. I don’t thing the vibe is all negative with the guy. I hope he stays and contributes mightily this year.
c1ramParticipantThis Britt/Quick dynamic is a totally unexpected bonus for me. Both those guy are decent size. Then you have Cook. Big receivers playing a big role? I just wasn’t seeing that. Of course it could all be a mirage but thrilled with that news so far.
c1ramParticipantI was so hoping Donald would be available at thirteen. When it got to about just a couple away I couldn’t see both Titans and Giants letting him get by just on talent alone. But they did with players they may be fine but not Donald, imo. The nice thing is that with the depth they don’t need him to be really good that quickly…but what if in those few plays he’s in the rotation he does disrupt things this year? With Quinn…and G. Williams….and, yeah, the way Williams may be licking his chops with Ogletree and McDonald? They may give up some big plays but, man, will they make some or what?
c1ramParticipantSB is kind of a victim of that 1st pick thing along the hype from his pro day throwing workout. Do agree on the durability thing. Played almost every snap his first year. Hoping for that this year.
c1ramParticipantHe could decide to move. My feeling is that its his preference to stay but he’s shrewd and pushing up the ante in STL. Very smart business dude. He reveals no cards at anytime – just lets others notice what he does.
July 24, 2014 at 9:56 pm in reply to: Articles & vids on Donald & Robinson (Donald already impressing them) #2446c1ramParticipantYeah. I dislike going overly enthusiastic 🙂 but I feel the same way. Getting him at thirteen was incredible. These lines were hardly bad. But with Robinson and Donald the sky’s the limit, imo.

c1ramParticipantI see 8-8 when considering this division and still not entirely confident the QB/WR connections – especially mid-range – will be solidified this enough to make serious moves on SF and SEA this year.
c1ramParticipantTony Dungy: I wouldn’t have taken Michael Sam
Michael David Smith
http://m.nbcsports.com/content/tony-dungy-i-wouldn%E2%80%99t-have-taken-michael-sam
And that’s where Dungy’s comments become troubling. If everyone refused to hire minorities because it could cause a distraction, no minority group would ever make any progress. Dungy has praised the late Chuck Noll for adding Dungy to the Steelers’ coaching staff in 1981, at a time when most NFL teams didn’t have any African-American assistant coaches. What if Noll had declined to hire Dungy because he worried that some of the white assistant coaches would have a problem with a black colleague?
I suspect Dungy’s response would be that discrimination because of race is “different” than discrimination over sexual preference (with emphasis on “preference”). It is the wrong side of the argument, imo, but I hear it often enough.
