I can’t root for the Cards as long as Arians is HC.

Can’t root for New England until the temperature in Hell drops below 0 degrees C.

    Manning? Gag.

I guess it’s the Panthers by default.

Well put except for Manning. I hope the Panthers destroy the Patriots.

There’s only so much money to go around even in LA. Retail developments fail all the time. StanK doesn’t have the security blanket of building for his pappy-in-law on this development. StanK isn’t building it in the stix where the competition can stagnate for decades. StanK better get Spanos in a long lease because if it proves so wildly successful after 5 years the competition will emerge and Spanos’ Chargers is the prize tenant. Would be so cool if Spanos ropes a lease from StanK that gives him the out or better bargaining power with StanK. Karma is a bitch.

“Imagine the Rams playing in LA when they were the ‘Greatest Show on Turf,’” Dickerson said, referring to the Super Bowl-winning St. Louis team.

“They would have had to go from practice to the studios to do movies. Everybody loves athletes. Actors want to be athletes, and athletes want to be actors. I hope it becomes like that again.”

Perhaps playing in St. Louis without all the distractions made the GSOT all it could be rather than have its players think they can be actors too? Maybe that is why those LA teams never won the Super Bowl.

I read this soon after you posted it and have thought about it a lot. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that a virus is the cause of most if not all cancer. Doubt the non empowered among us will ever see a cure since treatments are more profitable. Seems as though the cure business has dropped off a cliff the last 30 years.

I think people who are hoping to see SK damaged by financial overreach are deluding themselves. This development is going to be thousands of money-generating units that it will be staggering. I bet that if the Rams play in front of a half-empty stadium every week, Stan will still be in the black. There are residential units, business suites, Hotel suites, retail and restaurant suites, a theatre, and goodness knows, all writing rent/lease checks to SK every month for the rest of eternity. Plus Super Bowls, Final Fours, Olympics, World Cup, geezus the cash will flow like a river in the rainy season. The fortunes of the Rams are almost irrelevant. This is an Empire.

The shine can wear off fast. No development deal is guaranteed. Karma is a bitch.

Bitch about the rich that do help. Bitch about the rich that don’t help. Got it. Thanks.

Well, I dont believe in a ‘system’ that
normalizes and allows ‘rich’ and ‘poor’.
So, in a sense, yes, I will always bitch
about that situation. No big thing, bnw,

I didn’t realize we were discussing a system. I thought we were discussing charitable contributions of a pro sports franchise.

About that system that normalizes rich and poor, it has also normalized a substantial middle class which I believe sets it apart from all other systems.

In what system that encompasses hundreds of millions of people are there not the rich and the poor? Or the powerful and the powerless? I consider myself somewhat versed in world history but that answer escapes me.

The MLB St. Louis Cardinals sponsor in a very large way urban and suburban youth baseball throughout the bistate area among other efforts. Dewitt has been a very engaged with the community owner and is very respectful of an organization steeped in tradition that is the pulse of the region for 8 months of the year for at least 6 generations of St. Louisans and people throughout the midwest. The Cardinals are still relevant despite the lack of a huge pot of local TV money because they excel at what they invented, the minor league farm system. They have always had the largest farm system and player development department and spare no expense to find talent. Finding and signing these days is very different with the easy access to information but their player development is second to none. They show the fans that they respect the fans by their commitment to excellence and their desire to win. The fans respond by supporting the team. The former players generally look back on their time as a Cardinal as the best time they had in baseball. It is a first rate organization. They maintain contact with the team greats after their playing career ends. Every spring you get the same interviews from different prospects brought to spring training about being taken aside by this old guy or that old guy giving tips on how to improve their game. Most of those old guys have their bust in Cooperstown. It usually leaves the rookie in awe when he finds out about the the old guys giving him advice. As an organization the Cardinals almost always do it right and the community support is earned.

Except the only consequence of Massey dragging his knuckles across the turf would be deep gouges in the stadium floor.

And so that’s why the Rams needed a new stadium? It wasn’t really greed after all, just a damaged playing field? Wow, you have restored my faith in humanity, and also NFL owners… Thank you for that.

but i definitely root for the uniform. when pujols left to the angels, i stopped paying attention to him. i can barely bring myself to watch an angels game or even look at a box score. and now heyward has gone to chicago. and he is dead to me. being a sports fan can often be confusing. illogical. but i’ll keep watching as long as it’s fun.

For myself it depends upon how a player leaves. Pooholes left claiming the Cardinals disrespected him by offering a $219 million contract. Haywired wanted a shorter fence in Wrigley and not to be relied upon as a veteran team leader. Good riddance to both.

“But I can’t help thinking STL had a chance to keep the Rams for a measly $700 million renovation.”

For the St. Louis metro area that is not a measly sum. The LA metro area with many times more population hasn’t offered up any money ever. Don’t forget that $700 million would have followed the $300 million St. Louis spent 21 years ago. St. Louis deserves better. I hope LA and the state tax the fuck out of Kroenke and the Rams. I want to see that stadium project run at least $1 billion over budget and 10 years over schedule. I want to see him fail financially.

Well this is the second time the NFL has hit me square in the face with a turd so trying to find something positive out of this is difficult. The only thing I can find is the 4 pm starts that I hope are much more now. That gives me a much greater chance of watching them via network TV and at a time I prefer more. Always hated the 1 pm starts. Somehow in all this I hope StanK loses big time.

Half way through the first quarter of last year’s Super Bowl, I realized that I wanted the Seahawks to lose that game. I got exactly what I wanted. I don’t remember anything else about the result.

As much as I dislike the Seahawks I absolutely despise the Patriots. Seahawks haven’t stolen a super bowl from the Rams like the Patriots did.

Stan’s getting excoriated in the press here, by everybody. Business leaders, government leaders, fans, media … it’s what you’d expect, I guess. There is some very strong vitriol, and most of it comes from that scathing attack on STL as a viable market. I don’t see how Stan can show his face in Missouri again, not that he plans to.

Well, in a diabolical way that works ‘for’ him.
I mean, he can argue to the NFL that relations
are so poisoned and hostile now in St.Louis that
he cant possibly be expected to stay.

    w
    v

Worse than that he does it at the expense of St. Louis getting another team. StanK salted the field. St. Louis is the Carthage of the NFL.

Nah, he is just making the public cough up another $100 million.

I would like to see the local governments renege on any public support to his other developments throughout the bistate due to the terrible business climate and all.
