Goff on why he prefers joint practices over preseason games: “Our O line got…40-50 reps against Joey (Bosa) and Melvin (Ingram) and that defensive line, whereas in a preseason game they might get five to 10.”Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
And in a more controlled situation with a lower risk of injury. Soon there will be two preseason games, max, and no players or fans will complain.Gary Klein@LATimesklein
McVay on Goff’s even-keeled demeanor: “In the midst of things not going great he finds a way to settle in in a situation where we got to have a two-minute drive to score a touchdown. Made some great throws, recognized coverage, got the ball where it should have gone.”Rams Cooper Kupp: “First time really getting knocked to the ground and having to pop back up. There wasn’t any kind of hesitation for me. I felt like free to do whatever I wanted to do and really was kind of excited about that aspect of the day.”

The Rams wrapped up the UC Irvine portion of training camp on Sunday with a walk-thru. On Tuesday they will travel to Napa to practice against the Raiders for two days before they play each other in a preseason game Saturday. Sean McVay said Sunday that despite breaking from UC Irvine, that he emphasized to players that camp was not over. “We are still in camp mode for the next, really, week and a half or so,” McVay said. “We got to continue to get great work day-in and day-out.”🚨Cooper Kupp alert 🚨 If you didn’t know Kupp had ACL surgery just over eight months ago, you wouldn’t be able to tell by watching him.

…
9. 1999 Rams (won Super Bowl XXXIV): Though many sophisticated passing attacks had shined previously, the “Greatest Show on Turf” was in some ways the vanguard of today’s pass-oriented game. QB Kurt Warner, RB Marshall Faulk and WRs Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt truly resembled a game of “Madden” come to life, St. Louis’ 13 regular-season wins coming by an average of nearly 23 points. Remarkably consistent, the Rams were held to fewer than 20 points just once (in the NFC title round by Tampa Bay) and eclipsed 30 points 13 times. And Warner’s ascension from complete unknown to league MVP and, ultimately, a Hall of Famer is a quintessential rags-to-riches tale. If there’s a blemish, it would be a labored playoff run that included a semi-controversial win in the aforementioned 11-6 defeat of the Bucs.
…
74. 2001 Rams (lost Super Bowl XXXVI): The only team in franchise history to win 14 games, they were on the cusp of dynasty status — and heavily favored —before getting ambushed by New England’s nascent juggernaut.
…
88. 1973 Rams (lost divisional round): They outscored the opposition by 210 points in the regular season, the highest differential by any of 52 L.A. Rams teams.

Sean McVay announced Justin Lawler is undergoing foot surgery today. Tough blow for the young pass rusherDowntown Rams [DTR]@DowntownRams
This is the nature of the beast. Justin Lawler was going to make this roster. This now opens up a spot on the 53. Look for guys like Josh Carraway and Landis Durham to try and take advantage of this opportunity.Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
Tough news for #Rams DE Justin Lawler on having foot surgery. Rams value the multiple ways he helps. Not spectacular in any one area but solid across the board.ProFootballTalk@ProFootballTalk

Todd Gurley on whether he ran into Lamarcus Joyner at practice: “Nah, I didn’t even see his little short ass.” 😂Derek Carr has been held to a lot of short passes and scrambles in 7 on 7. Good coverage from the Rams.

#Rams have worked a lot on zone beating passing concepts all camp. It continued today#Rams Jared Goff must like the familiar NoCal air. He’s having himself a day today. Including sticking a perfect throw on Gerald Everett – who was double covered – for TD in a Red Zone drill
We’re hitting the final stretch here in Nappa. And boy did #Rams Jared Goff put on a show
Nice run by #Rams John Kelly on last play of an 11 on 11 session. He camp to camp ready to compete and it shows
Work in progress: #Rams rookie tackle David Edwards, playing LT, got worked by #Raiders rush end Arden Key during 11 on 11’s.
Funny exchange between Sean McVay and #Raiders CB Gareon Conley after Robert Woods got called for pushing off – McVay gave the ref an earful, and Conley yelled: “I knew that route.” McVay screamed back: “You don’t know that route!!”
J.B. Long@JB_Long
Raiders send a blitz, #LARams pick it up nicely. Gave Goff time to deal to a wide open Robert Woods for a first down conversion (aren’t all Woods catches?). McVay fired up about it, slapping hands with Goff and OL.Asked what advice he’d have for the Raiders as they’re featured on Hard Knocks, Jared Goff says with a laugh, “Don’t talk to anybody… Keep you mouth shut.” #LARams

Focused on the Raiders defense today. Overall, the SB contenders look like a well oiled machine in their third year. Even on plays that the Raiders defended well, they knew exactly what do in the second/third phases of plays. They have a chance to respond tomorrowGoff hitting longer crossing routes that is taking time to develop.
