He did this yesterday at his presser. He actually suggested that one way to kill the virus was to inject disinfectants into the body!! Various disinfectant makers, like Lysol, had to immediately put out press releases to tell Americans NOT to do this.
The total instances of insanity, venality, cruelty and mendacity we’ve witnessed from Trump are too much to fit into one post, obviously. Ironically, I think one of the main reasons Trump has survived this long is because of that — because he’s just overwhelmed the nation with his madness, gaslighting and endless bullying. People either don’t believe it’s actually happening, or they turn it off, or just go numb. It’s exhausting. It. Is. Exhausting.
But it’s also literally killing people, not only because of his indefensibly bad response to the pandemic, but his war against migrants, the environment, the poor and so on.
And this repeatedly makes my rage and anger climb to record heights, which is then, when I see the life-stories of the newly dead, drops me back down into despair.
I can’t begin to put this all into words, and it’s all too difficult for me to restrain my utter contempt . . . but not just for Trump, the GOP and all who are complicit in their deadly actions. As a leftist, I have contempt (as well) for public figures on the left who seem to believe it will hurt their cred if they actually focus at all on Trump and the GOP, instead of their daily rage-fests against “corporatist Dems.”
Cuz, ya know what? It’s a given that the vast majority of Dems in DC are corporatists. But they at least have some who fight against that, and corporatist Dems can at least be embarrassed about their status quo stance. They’re at least ambivalent about it. Trump and the GOP? They revel in it. They worship at the altar of capitalism. They absolutely, fiercely, joyfully, dogmatically, strictly adhere to its orthodoxies, and call anyone who differs a commie.
And. They. Hold. Power.
Seriously, if a leftist decides to focus all of their attention on just one (and only one) of the two major parties for their rage, which one should it be? The party that holds the White House, the Supreme Court, the Senate and most of the states? The party that aggressively, maliciously, by hook or crook rams the gospel of Supply Side Jesus down the world’s throat? Or the party largely out of power, which is at least ambivalent, and never “aggressive” about anything?
If leftists choose just one object for rage, which one should it be? And what are the consequences when it chooses poorly?
