I’ll be really curious how these new-rules play out.

I’m wondering if ‘every’ QB in the NFL will
have career years. Maybe the league has made it
easy for ‘ordinary’ quarterbacks to succeed now.
Maybe Shaun Hill will have a 90 rating.
Maybe every ordinary QB will have a 90 rating.

Anyway, its gonna be inter esting.

What the league has also done, of course, is make the pass rush that much more important.

A few months ago, I watched a replay of the 69 Super Bowl, Jets/Colts. The QBs in that game, Namath, Morral, and Unitas, took a beating after almost every pass. Hits to the head, face, knees, lots of piling on, and a lot of the hits were late.
And if they scrambled…. Oh dear God have mercy on their souls.

For those 3 QBs to have the long careers they did seems almost impossible to me now. I don’t know how they survived one full season, much less over a decade.

Watched a replay of a Chargers, Dolphins game from the 80s. Similar thing. The only difference was late hits were very few.

Now I watch a game, and if a QB gets his helmet grazed it’s 15 yards.

Me thinks we may have swung too far in one direction with this idea.

And zn is right. The league is making the pass rush the most important aspect of a D.

Let’s rally around Shaun Hill and the league’s new rules, and play good football.

@Winnbrad. For what you say and a bunch of other reasons… it’s why I’m not panicking on this season.

Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
