I work for Ramsey County in Union Depot, downtown Saint Paul, MN. It’s a beautifully restored intercity passenger train station and public transportation hub on the east side of the Twin Cities, and we routinely rent out space for large and small events like conferences and weddings.

Since the Super Bowl is being played in Minneapolis, the Vikings are considered by the NFL to be the host team for the game and many events leading up to the game. It is customary for the host team to throw a big party for the owners and top staff, and Union Depot was chosen to be the venue for the SB LII owners party on Thursday evening. The Head House (main lobby) is being transformed into a banquet hall and the waiting room is being set up for a concert by Sting. They covered the 100-year old marble tile floor in the Head House with about 5,000 square feet of carpet, I guess to make it more cushy to stand on.

The security and privacy around this party is excessive. Our office windows and condo windows that face the open Head House lobby will be covered to prevent peeking or photos. The power to our offices will be turned off to prevent our office lights from shining onto their party. Access to the building will be restricted only to guests and party staff, meaning people will be escorted to the Amtrak platform and transit stops on the sidewalk outside the building and condo residents can only use the elevators from the parking garage. I might leave work after lunch just to avoid the hubbub.

    Interesting.

    It’s a 1%er party.

Is it a big name performing, a local band, or just NFL owners really singing karaoke? Just wondering.

hey Snowman, enjoy the Super Bowl festivities.

SB 50 was in my hometown and it was very cool to attend the daily activities and programs they had here locally. One of my favorites was a low key NFL Championship exhibit at a smpall local art museum. that exhibit had display from various NFL teams…. one was a piece of the wooden goal post from the 1958 Championship game (Colts Giants at Yankee stadium) that was torn down by the fans…. Dick Vermiel’s jacket from SB 34 was also on display…

I just saw that it’s 13 degrees in Minny, thus, hopefully most of the events are held indoors.

Just curious, as a Minnesota native… were you rooting for the Vikes or Eagles in the NFC Championship?

LOL! The entertainment was Sting, that guy from a band called The Police.

    Thanks joe,

I might check out the free stuff on Saturday. Most of the SB stuff is happening in Minneapolis and I work in Saint Paul, plus security is tight and its only 1 degree outside right now. I have lots of excuses for staying home!

I used to live in Allentown, PA so I went to a couple of Eagles games and have friends who are Eagles fans, so I kind of like the Eagles. Of course my wife and her family are Viking fans and they are the local team, so I have been happy for them that their team has done well. From the sheer oddity of it, I was hoping the Vikings would win and create this match-up of a four-time loser vs. five time winner. The locals would go bananas too, and the Packer fans here would be besides themselves!
