znModeratorIt will be very interesting to see how the genius-Shanahan handles Myles Garrett.
Oct 2 — 49ers 26 – Rams 23
Nove 9 – 49ers 26 – Rams 42w
vIn their game last year (11/30 in Cleveland), 49ers led the whole way and won 26-8. In spite of playing from behind all game, Garrett had 1 sack, 2 TFLs, and 3 qb hits. Purdy was pressured on 32.3% of his dropbacks. That’s in spite of throwing just 29 times (for 168 yards). He also had 17.4% bad throws. Of the 9 regular season games he played, Purdy faced a higher pressure rate again Seattle in their 1st game, but no other game had such a high percentage of bad throws.
I posted something somewhere in this thread stating that SF’s legendary LOT Trent Wms. gave up the highest pressure percentage of his entire career going against Garrett that game.

The football gods only allow the Rams to win a ring once every two decades or so.
So, I’m wondering which quarter of the first game, Garrett will be eaten by a Shark, or possibly a salt-water crocodile.
Then again, the Inland Taipan is the deadliest snake in the world. So there’s that.
Also, the Sydney Funnel-Web spider.

Trent Williams to the 49 offense before game 1 in Australia:
“This is dread, man. Truely dread….Prepare yourself.”

The Rams figured they would have competition for Garrett, but multiple Browns sources insist this trade was Rams-specific and no other suitors reached a serious threshold.
There was a dormant period until after the draft, a source said, when the Rams brass gathered and asked, “Are we going to keep talking about this [deal]?” Los Angeles had just drafted quarterback Ty Simpson with the No. 13 pick, choosing to select the player they believe will be able to take over for Stafford when he retires.
While the Rams were thinking about the future there, they were also committed to making another big splash on defense, as they had when they traded for McDuffie, an All-Pro cornerback, in early March.
To fulfill that commitment, the Rams circled back with the Browns on Wednesday, April 29, after the draft. Snead called Berry directly to “see if [sides] could work something out,” per source.
But with Garrett, the answer was no, multiple parties said, until the Rams agreed to include edge rusher Jared Verse in the deal. Parting with Verse, the 2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, Rams coach Sean McVay said, “was the hardest part of this decision.”
Around mid-May is when the Browns started to believe the Rams might be willing to part with Verse. But even late in the process, the Rams kept offering packages that did not include the Pro Bowler — as one source put it, the Rams “sweetened the pot” with a package featuring more draft capital than the first-, second- and third-rounders Cleveland eventually received.

znModeratorOffensive line coach Ryan Wendell says Garrett is going to make all of the Rams’ linemen better by having to block him every day in practice.
“I was excited about the opportunity to see him in practice work, because I know how much better it’s going to make our guys to get to block a reigning Defensive Player of the Year – a guy that’s that kind of a premier pass rusher and player every day,” Wendell said on the Bleav in Rams podcast. “It’s only going to make our guys better, so I was excited about that. And then I was, just, for our overall team, I was just beyond elated to think about like how much better that’s going to make every guy that he’s playing with on, you know, all the way from the back end, it’s going to help the guys cover better. It’s going to help the other guys rush better. I mean, he’s a great addition to our team.”
