Watch: Aaron Donald makes case as goal-line weapon for Rams

I’ve been calling for the Rams to diversify goal-line personnel for a long, long time. But I’m definitely against risking the best player in football in the process.

Would rather the Rams use their most athletic backup DT or OT for that change. Preferably third-string. I’d love to see them cross-train a relatively short block of granite to move the pile on 3rd and short and goal-line situations . . . or a taller, but still huge lineman who can catch.

But, sheesh!! Risking injury to future HOF Donald? Please, Rams, just so no!!

    Agreed.

Though I also want to add that the Rams were good in the RZ last year. According to this stat–NFL Team Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only) (or NFLTRZSPTDO for short)–Rams were 6th in the league. In the last 3 games, they were 1st in the league.

So on top of it being a bad idea, they don’t need it anyway.

I didn’t know that about the Red Zone stuff. Weird. Watching the season, I got the sense they weren’t so good in the RZ.

Have you looked into their Super Bowl year? What are the stats for that? It appeared they struggled. That was my impression, which may have been wrong . . .

They were not as good before. As ironic as it sounds, the McVay Rams offense was better in the RZ in 2019 than in 2018 and 2017. In fact his Washington offense was not that good at it in 2016. Until last year this was legitimately considered a McVay weakness.

Same stat I bolded in the last post:

    Year, rank
    2019: 6th
    2018: 19th
    2017: 17th
    2016 (Washington): 30th
