A committee recommended impeaching the entire wv-supreme court. One justice has now resigned, and others are fighting for their jobs. One of the big issues is a now infamous 32,000 dollar couch. West Virginians all make daily jokes about this couch.

“…“I’ve never seen glass cut like that before,” Fleischauer, D-Monongalia, said as she looked at the table.

That was an example of Fleischauer’s broader reaction to the tour. She was impressed by the beauty — the ornate molding, for example, but questioned the wisdom of the steeper expenses.

The most time – but still only probably five or ten minutes – was spent in Justice Allen Loughry’s office. Renovations to that office were tallied at $363,013.43.

Delegates lingered around the infamous $32,000 couch, touching its suede fabric and commenting on the cost of the couch and the six pillows.

“It looks like a regular couch to me,” commented Altizer, counsel for the Democrats.

No one in the first group sat on it. Some members of the second group did. Delegate Kelli Sobonya, who was in the second group, went so far as to pull out measuring tape to get the couch’s dimensions.

Delegates also gathered in a circle around the wooden inlaid floor that was designed just for Loughry, commenting on the beauty of the wood.

    “It is beautiful,” Fleischauer commented….”
