Breaking down Rams quarterback Nick Foles’ contract extension
By Nick WagonerEARTH CITY, Mo. — The numbers are in on quarterback Nick Foles’ two-year contract extension with the St. Louis Rams.
As expected, the deal will pay him almost $14 million guaranteed. The exact amount of guaranteed money is $13,792,000 and includes a $3 million signing bonus, a fully guaranteed base salary this season of $1,042,500 and a $2 million roster bonus to be paid on Sept. 1.
There are also $4.5 million in not likely to be earned incentives available based on going to the Pro Bowl, playoff appearances and wins. His cap number for 2014 has gone up from just over $1 million to just over $4 million.

No wonder they didn’t chase any more free agents. They used their remaining cap space on this, and obviously planned to all along.
Yes, they have used all free stuff. They needed Foles to be at least a bridge QB. They have him now for 2 years. Then they can either extend him or go in a different direction.

43 minutes ago • By Jim ThomasThe contract numbers are in for Rams quarterback Nick Foles, and as advertised, they show his contract extension _ signed last week _ is worth $26 million over three years with $13.79 million guaranteed.
He receives a renegotiation signing bonus of $3 million, with roster bonuses of $2 million this year, $6 million in 2016, and $1.5 million in 2017.
Foles makes $1.042 million in base salary this year, $1.75 million in ’16, and then his base jumps to $10.75 million in 2017.
His salary cap numbers are as follows: $4.068 million in 2015, $8.75 million in ’16, and $13.25 million in ’17.
His previous cap number for 2015, prior to the renegotiation, was $1.5 million. So putting extra dollars into ’15 leaves the Rams with $4.6 million of salary cap space according to figures filed with the NFL Players Association.
In each of the three years of the contract, Foles can earn an additional $4.5 million in incentives based on Pro Bowl honors, playing time, playoff appearances, and club/individual rankings.
Although not likely, if all those incentives are met over the three-year term of the contract, Foles’ deal could max out at $39.5 million.
Overlooked by most in the initial media coverage of the extension is the fact that Foles can void the final year _ 2017 _ of his contract. In order to void, Foles must achieve 50 percent playing time in the 2015 and ’16 seasons, and either reach the playoffs, reach a certain amount of wins, or make the Pro Bowl.
