Offensive lineman Mike Person headed to Atlanta

EARTH CITY, Mo. — One day after they chose to subtract two more offensive linemen in the form of center Scott Wells and tackle Jake Long, the St. Louis Rams lost another to free agency.

Backup offensive lineman Mike Person agreed to terms on a contract with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday evening. Obviously, the move flew (pun intended) well under the radar with so many other things happening in St. Louis.

The Falcons confirmed the move via Twitter.

Losing Person isn’t a crushing blow by any means for the Rams and it didn’t seem they were in much of a hurry to bring him back. He was a seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 then spent time with Seattle, Indianapolis and Seattle again. The Rams claimed him off waivers early in 2013 and he did not appear in a game that season.

Person did offer some depth last year, however, appearing in all 16 games on special teams, worked as the occasional sixth offensive lineman, and filled in for injured teammates on offense against Kansas City, Oakland and Seattle.

With Person subtracted from the mix, the Rams now have just five offensive linemen on the roster in Rodger Saffold, Barrett Jones, Demetrius Rhaney, Greg Robinson and Travis Bond. They also will have Brandon Washington back after extending him an offer as an exclusive rights free agent.

Right tackle Joe Barksdale and guard Davin Joseph remain available as unrestricted free agents as does center Tim Barnes, whom the Rams declined to tender as a restricted free agent.
