Bill Polian was on the “The Herd” and Colin said that now a days the oline is more important than the dline. He said that Buffalo has a great dline and will miss the playoffs. Polian stepped in and said that the dline is still important because finding big guys that can rush the passer are hard to find. He said oline are easier to find.
POSTER’S OPINION NOT POLIAN: Donald was a need because the Rams have an elite defensive end rusher in Quinn but they didnt have an elite defensive tackle. Now they do in Donald. He will allow the Rams to get consistent pressure up the middle as well as off the edge.
Also Polian said that the development of a QB is this:
1yr – Learning the nature of the playbook
2yr – Learn how to be a pro, get your body in shape, have a growth spurt. Learn the offense and learn what the defense is trying to do to you.
3yr – Learn how to use the offense to counteract to what the defense is doing. Make decisions alot faster. Alot more comfortable with the people around and start to develop chemistry with receivers, running backs, etc…
4yr – Able to make all the protection calls, manipulate defenses with eyes and shoulders. And in year 4 a QB has become a big boy NFL QB.
Both Colin and Polian agreed that Luck and Wilson are outliers.
