    Jourdan Rodrigue, from https://theathletic.com/2729638/2021/07/25/what-we-learned-as-new-rams-including-qb-matthew-stafford-and-rookies-reported-to-training-camp/?source=emp_shared_article

    • Atwell weighs 155 pounds, he confirmed. But the Rams would like him to add about 6 pounds and play at 160-161, he added — no easy feat, considering his metabolism.

“It’s tough, I have a fast metabolism — it burns fast,” he said, laughing. “It is what it is … I try my best, the coaches know that, so we’re just going to do what we’ve got to do.

    • Harris, who rotated into quite a bit of first-team reps in the spring with veteran Tyler Higbee not practicing, said he’ll continue to be the versatile tight end/receiver hybrid the Rams hoped he could be when drafting him this spring (he’ll also compete on special teams, likely in all four phases).

“It was something that I was ready for, and I didn’t take any of those reps for granted,” he said. “It was a blessing to be out there in general … to be in there with the ones, they run a little bit faster. Being able to hear the signal calls and to be out there in full phase like that, it was good.”

Harris won’t add much weight, he confirmed, because the Rams want to keep his explosiveness and speed where it is and don’t want a ton of extra bulk. So when it comes to the blocking he may do when aligned at tight end, he’s focusing on gaining the right leverage — playing smarter where he may not always win the physical contest.

    Thanks for the Gabriel stuff.

I might be on an island here, but I still put him at the top of the heap of Rams’ QBs, all-time.

Early leader in training camp quotes is ILB Ernest Jones. Asked him about personnel people’s praise of how he negotiates traffic in the middle; he said, “that’s just God-given talent. That’s just a smoothness inside the box that I play with. When I need to be aggressive and

need to press things, I can do that – but if I can slip and slide you, I’ll do that too.

“I see myself slipping through, making a bunch of plays behind the LOS and impacting (opponents) – making them have a fit when it comes to playing No. 50.”

Tutu Atwell worked out with Teddy Bridgewater and got in throwing sessions with him in Miami this offseason.

Was happy the Rams took a flier on such a freakish athlete. But, damn, he’s skinny. He and Tutu need to take a crash course on eating massive quantities of cheesecake and pizza, or something.

Well, actually, it should be really healthy food, but mega-calories in total, along with continued weight-training, etc. etc.

I’m guessing most of us here know how hard it is to lose weight. Gaining it should be easy, and kinda fun.

    Kids these days!!

Rams DL A’Shawn Robinson says he physically feels great. He’s down to his goal weight of 308 pounds after changing his diet and committing to new workout regimen.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams DL A’Shawn Robinson said he’s right at his weight goal (308 pounds). It’s made a noticeable difference – he said he feels lighter, faster, more explosive, more fluid.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/28/rams-robert-rochell-darious-williams-elite-corner/

Darious Williams thinks [highly] of Rochell, saying he has everything it takes to not just be great, but an elite cornerback.

“Scooter, he’s going to be a player,” Williams said Tuesday. “He’s explosive. He’s got everything in his body to become an elite corner. If I can help him, just like anybody else, as much as I can, knowledge, I can give it to him and that’s going to increase their level, their game, that’s what I’m going to try to do. He’s real eager–him, Brontae Harris, those younger guys are real eager to learn. They’re really eager to get better. I just try to give them all the techniques I know and let them take off.”

Van Jefferson mentioned that he, Robert Woods, Cooper Kupp and a few others got in quite a few throwing sessions with Matthew Stafford at the Rams’ facilities before camp.

FWIW, asked Austin Corbett directly if he feels he can secure that starting center spot even as McVay alluded to competition yesterday – he firmly said yes (with respectful nod to the competition and teammates). Added it’s something he is comfortable with.

The Rams made a point this spring to emphasize McVay’s schematic shift in the run game, in large part because of Cam Akers. It even helped motivate a change at center. So now, figuring out their RB carry share w/Henderson won’t be their only question

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/2021/07/30/rams-ernest-jones-sean-mcvay-training-camp-quote/?taid=6103ea91964cb9000114a8ab&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter

After selecting Ernest Jones in the third round, the Rams hope he can solve some of the issues they’ve had at that spot. It’s early, but Jones has impressed Sean McVay already in camp, just as he did in OTAs and minicamp.

“It’s exciting,” McVay said of Jones batting passes in practice Thursday. “I think anytime that you see good plays right now, that’s the beauty of being a head coach, you can be excited on both sides. But for Ernest, he’s a guy that’s an instinctual player. There’s a lot of information for these young guys to absorb, whether you’re on offense of defense, but I’ve been really pleased with his progression. (LBs coach) Chris Shula has done an excellent job with him. I think the more he feels comfortable, the more reps, the more that he can just kind of play fast and not worry about thinking so much. I think you’re starting to see that show itself out here.”

McVay noted the return of Travin Howard after he missed the 2020 season, calling it “big time.”

“I’ve been really pleased with him,” McVay said. “You felt so bad for him last year because he was doing so many good things. Really liked the look in his eye. He’s out here, he’s got a good bounce in his step. I think he’s really done a nice job of continuing to progress. As a whole, that group, you look at the experience. ‘T-Howard’ is doing a great job, I want him to stay healthy. You’ve got Micah Kiser, Troy Reeder played a lot of ball, really love what Kenny Young’s done. He’s got a great energy. The confidence that he gained from last year and all the success that he had. Ernest was asked about earlier, and we’re excited about him as well. A lot of good depth, these guys are positively pushing one another and it’s going to be exciting to see how it shakes out.”

“Thuney is up there on the shortlist of OL who have performed best against Donald over the years. Really nice set & hands from Thuney here to sell being aggressive to disrupt Donald’s timing (getting him to cross-chop air) before riding him past the QB 1v1.”

    I forgot.

Why do we let Patriots fans post here again?

They help balance out all the 49ers and Seahawk fans.

Can’t help but think how much Brandon Staley would’ve liked Travin Howard last year over Troy Reeder.

The athleticism he’s shown so far and praise he’s gotten from the coaching staff shows how talented of a player he is.

CB Robert Rochell hurt his wrist on a punch-out yesterday, and will have surgery per McVay. Timeline TBD but procedure is this week.

I didn’t get the impression that it will be a super long absence for Rochell, for what that’s worth

Bobby Brown III suffered a UCL injury (thumb) and will also have surgery this week but is expected to return to the field shortly after that procedure, per McVay.

Here’s something cool: Rams QBs and centers were working on exchanges just now, and Nick Jones – Matthew Stafford’s former center at UGA, now an assistant coach for the Rams – took some extra time on a few details with Stafford and new starting center Austin Corbett.

Rookie TE Jacob Harris is slowly working back into things. Is able to participate in individuals today.

OK not trying to cause a fuss but Harris (bc recovering from a core injury) has lined up behind everybody to take the last rep, which a backup QB would normally throw. But on his rep the Rams switched back in Matthew Stafford, who delivered a gorgeous 30-yder to his back shoulder

Robert Woods is having a DAY out here so far. Crowd loving it.

Jalen Ramsey. Red zone. Pick six. Aaaaaalllllll the way to the other end zone.

Oh my goodness – and the offense gets one back. Stafford handled a bobbled snap, re-set, flushed and threw a dart on the run to Cooper Kupp in traffic for the score. This is goooood stuff.

Ok this guy is just showing off now. Looking toward the EZ corner route (and the beer garden!), Stafford quick-fires a pass to Henderson up the middle.

I’m standing in the corner of the end zone and just stared down the barrel of a Stafford side-arm throw AMA

Matthew Stafford strikes Robert Woods on a long touchdown in “move the ball” period and McVay sprints downfield to celebrate – that one was enough to get the guys out a few minutes early. Fun, fun day
