Rams quarterback Jared Goff finishes the first quarter with 105 yards on 9-of-11 passing. One incompletion was a knockdown by DeMarcus Lawrence, the other was a throwaway as he was flushed from the pocket. Rams put up 137 yards on 23 first-quarter plays

So I see the screens are back #Rams

    Bucky Brooks@BuckyBrooks
The @RamsNFL fly-sweep misdirection package is difficult to defend because they will run the fly sweep, off-tackle run to the motion, off-tackle run away from motion, WR/RB screen game, bootlegs and play-action deep shots. That’s a lot to defend from the same initial action.

    Van Jefferson. Wow.

The rookie WR just hauled in a 31-yard completion from Jared Goff to set up the Rams at the Cowboys 21.

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Well, that was gorgeous. Welcome, Van Jefferson.

    Ryan Clark@Realrclark25
Van Jefferson can really play man. This was an amazing throw by Goff as well. Threw Jefferson away from Diggs, but kept it in play. Redline*

Rams don’t punt in the first half, but settle for 3 FG attempts and miss one of them.

End up trailing 14-13, and the Cowboys will receive the 3Q kick.

Interesting to see Fuller playing for Rapp in the back end. Terrific start for the offensive line. Dak very sharp.

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
-Jared Goff is 12 of 19 for 168 yards
-Malcom Brown has 72 yards from scrimmage and a TD on 10 carries and two catches.
-Robert Woods has 79 yards from scrimmage on four receptions and a carry.
-Rams were outgained 255 to 241.

#Rams trail the #Cowboys at the half 14-13. Bizarre to be losing a game you feel they have controlled.

    Sosa K@QBsMVP
The Rams didn’t invest nothing at ILB and it showed in that half. The issue was the remainder of the defense didn’t step up one bit. The missed tackles were brutal from all three levels.

Didn’t see the outrage when Goff was intercepted and his helmet was turned 90 degrees sideways without a flag.

    DOWNTOWN RAMS [DTR]@DowntownRams
How about rookie 6th-round safety Jordan Fuller?!? Led the team in tackles tonight. Rookie DC Brandon Staley held Dak Prescott, Zeke Elliott, Tony Pollard, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup to 17 points!

    Albert Breer@AlbertBreer
Good win for the Rams. And won at the line of scrimmage, which is important for them, given their issues last year

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
Al Michaels on the Rams: “I know for a fact they loved Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but they didn’t have a first-round pick.”

    Brett Kollmann@BrettKollmann
Anyone else get a vibe that the Cowboys literally haven’t changed at all?

Dak has mostly efficient numbers, Zeke has a nice day, the defense plays well enough to theoretically give the offense a chance…

And yet they only score 17 and botch the 4th quarter. It’s the same team.

    Brandon Thorn@BrandonThornNFL
Might just skip watching Donald on the coaches tape this week. I don’t need to see in great detail him beating Martin like nobody has. I understand what happened.

Rookie @j_fuller4 plays 98% of defensive snaps and leads the @RamsNFL in tackles in his debut.

    SeattleRams@seattlerams_nfl
Fuller also had the play of the game IMO. That 4th down stop really changed the momentum.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams HC Sean McVay: “Can’t say enough about Jordan Fuller and his maturity as a rookie.”

    Rich Hammond@Rich_Hammond
Be right back … I’m going to go count how many safeties got drafted before Jordan Fuller.

    16.

    Sarina@sarina
Head Coach Sean McVay’s 4-0 record in his team’s first game of the season is the best starting record amongst all head coaches through their first four games.

The Rams utilized 12 personnel on 20 snaps tonight.

Kupp was on the field for 12 of those – much better than last year.

Played 61 of 72 snaps overall. He should be just fine, that was a concern before tonight.

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
You want balance? You got balance.

31 pass attempts by Goff, 35 rush attempts by RBs.

    Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
The @Rams averaged 25 rush attempts per game last year, trying to work around Todd Gurley situation. They ran it 40 times tonight – 36 if you take out Goff’s scambles. I’d imagine 28 will be the target this year

    Todd Archer@toddarcher
Aldon Smith with his first sack since Noiv. 15, 2015 when he was with the Oakland Raiders. An incredible comeback. He doesn’t look like a guy who has missed so much time because of an indefinite suspension.

    TurfShowTimes@TurfShowTimes
In his Rams debut, Brandon Staley’s defense allowed fewer yards than in any game by LA last season. 244 against an offense projected to be among the league’s elite

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Sean McVay, relatable with no context: “I think I’ll remember the silence, too.”

Sean McVay indicates that Taylor Rapp is healthy and Jordan Fuller played his way into his role – while emphasizing that Rapp continues to be a huge part of what they want to do on defense.

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Jalen Ramsey on rookie safety Jordan Fuller, who had an impactful performance in his first NFL game. “Jordan has been balling all camp.”

McVay called Fuller’s fourth-down stop on Ceedee Lamb an “unbelievable play… That was the play of the game arguably.”

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Aaron Donald on Jordan Fuller’s late 4th and 3 stop: “That was huge. He’s a young guy that stepped up and made a play. … He’s out there for a reason.”

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Rams head coach Sean McVay on his team’s season-opening 20-17 win over Dallas on Sunday night, “I thought our offense slowed up in the second half, but the defense picked up in the slack. That’s what team football is all about.”

Also mentioned he liked how PK Sam Sloman responded to missing his first NFL field goal attempt and P Johnny Hekker flipped the field with some timely punts

    Los Angeles Rams UK@LARams_UK
Brian Hill, the Rams scout that was banging the table for Jordan Fuller to be drafted, deserves a pat on the back after his extremely encouraging debut.

He gave Fuller a grade that he had only given to handful of players previously. Good to have these people in the building.

Just think. The #Rams set the bar for their season. If…

    – 17 points from the Dallas Cowboys offense
    – Racking up 422 yards of offense
    – Holding Zeke to under 100 yards rushing
    – Getting 3 sacks and 7 hits on the QB
    – Balancing the offense
    – and winning

    Is the bar? I’m happy

    Rams Brothers@RamsBrothers
Big takeaway: (amongst other things) 3 rookies contributed. Fuller, Jefferson & Akers all made an impact in this game.

Encouraging to see something from the 2020 draft class. Much more to come!

    RIPKobeBeanBryant@Rams24_7
I gave the D a hard time after the first half but they bounced back with some big plays in the 2nd half:
    -3rd & 4 sack by Brock
    -3rd & 9 PD from Kiser
    -4th & 3 tackle by Fuller
    -3rd & 5 hit stick from Ramsey
    -Sack from Floyd

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Love this from Malcom Brown, on getting the first ever touchdown scored in SoFi Stadium: “I feel like I might live forever.”

    Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Aaron Donald says tonight’s game was ” like a more intense scrimmage,” because there were no fans. “It just felt more like a little league game back when I was 6, 7 years old playing. The only thing that wasn’t there was my mom and dad screaming “AARON.”

    Cameron DaSilva@camdasilva
The RB rotation is real, balance is back on offense and the O-line was helped by McVay’s great scripting

    Brett Kollmann@BrettKollmann
I don’t hate the decision, and I don’t even hate the play call either to be honest. Dak read man, they had a rub to CeeDee against 1hi…it made sense.

But the Rams had a Cone call on Lamb since he was in a cut split in the stack. PERFECT adjustment. Dallas just got outplayed.

    Clarence Hill Jr@clarencehilljr
Talked to the referee Tony Corrente after the game. He said it was clear, obvious offensive pass interference that was flagged by 2 officials. Mike McCarthy said that flag is normally not thrown at that time. But Corrente said penalty was obvious. It would be called at any point

1-0! Had to get that first one in SoFi. #RamsHouse

12 hours to enjoy it, then on to Philly!

The Rams’ defense wasn’t perfect tonight, but it’s impossible to not see the potential of Brandon Staley’s group

The big stat in the game, was the RAMs 3rd conversion 9 out of 17 at 53%

Have to give credit to the OL,,, especial when Brown was in there at RB they were playing power line blocking to give Brown some good chunk yardage

Giving up 14 pts in the first half,,, and only 3pts in the second… Outstanding…

AD was a monster,,, only one sack,,,, but he made Dak hurried in several throws with four QB Hits and 1 TFL…

    what a helluva defensive effort!

    – just 17 offensive points allowed to last year’s #4 scoring offense, that’s a 3rd ranking in 2019 numbers.
    – just 5.1 yards per play allowed, that’s a 7th ranking in 2019 numbers.
    – just 3 of 12 (25%) third down conversions allowed, that’s a 2nd ranking in 2019 numbers.

Jared Goff finished 5th-lowest Completed Air Yards in Week 1 averaging 3.6 yards per completion. That offense was CONDENSED.

That’s not at all a bad thing, though. The lowest Completed Air Yards in Week 1? Kansas City Chiefs QB Pat Mahomes at 3.2.

Cooper Kupp ranked 3rd in the entire NFL for Week 1 and Robert Woods 5th for the amount of separation they had from the nearest defender at the time of reception or incompletion.

Kupp had 5.3 yards of separation on average; Woods 4.7.

    3 keys to win:

    1.) McVay’s rebirth
    2.) 2nd half defense
3.) 3rd down success on offense

Kept the Cowboys to less than 20 points. That’s going to look much, much more impressive as the season rolls on.

BTHRams: keys to win [includes] 3rd down success on offense

On offense, Rams converted 9 of 17 third downs, or 53%, which last year would have ranked 1st, with the second being the Ravens at 48.3%.

Week 1 Monday is always the biggest overreaction day on the @NFL calendar. Today’s overreaction is 1,000,000 times worse. It’s glorious. It feels GREAT to overreact.

I think too many people are analyzing last nights game as “what’s wrong with Dallas” and not enough are asking “did we underrate the Rams?”

    PFF Fantasy Football@PFF_Fantasy
Robert Woods averaged 14.8 yards after catch per reception in Week 1

    Most among all WRs

    Gregg Rosenthal@greggrosenthal
Oh my. the NFC West has a real chance to be the best overall division in years.

    JB Ram@JB_Peeples
All the people that are shocked how AD balled out last night haven’t been paying attention. The dude never stops grinding and strives to get better every day. He is hands down the best player in the league.

    Goff was 20 for 31, 275 yards, 0 TD, 1 Int … which is a qb rating of 79.4.

BUT, had that roughing call been called: 20 for 30, 275 yards, 0 TD, 0 Int … which is 95.8.

That one play cost Goff over 16 points in passer rating.

If only that one [fill in the blank] hadn’t happened.

So much of life comes down to that one thing that happened or didnt happen.

I think about this, often. I mean, what if Dolphins had evolved thumbs. What if that one thing had happened. They might have beaten the Pats. Ya know.

There’s a lot of ‘one-things’ that happen. And dont happen.

    Alrighty then.

I think the main thing here is just getting a handle on how Goff played, which people are naturally interested in cause of last year’s regression.

And in this particular game, it’s shaping up as “he played better than his numbers indicate.”

I think that’s true–watching the game, he was much more even-keeled and consistent than last year, and made plays.

Yeah stuff happens but overall how did he look? He looks very solid. Yet you could also tell that the offense needs some playing time to reach its stride (due to the off-season flu panic.)

The quick passing game resulted in the Rams allowing a pressure rate of just 8.8% while the Cowboys gave up a horrendous 33.3%.
