I’ve been reading a Fantasy trilogy by Joe Abercrombie. Its purty good. I’m almost finished with the third book. Its usually called The First Law series.
Anyway, Abercrombie doesnt go into micro-detail in his world-building. He’s more of a story teller. More like Stephen King, than G.RR Martin, maybe.

Its inter esting ‘how’ he goes about doing his work. He often kinda ‘distills’ films he likes down to their essence. And he builds his story around the films essences.
Like, here, he talks about using, Unforgiven, and Point Blank (Lee Marvin), Bridge Too Far…He often uses Westerns as inspirations for his books. Outlaw Josey Wales, Lonesome Dove, etc.

I started this at the 47 min mark.
