Rams rookies played 9th-most snaps in NFL despite lacking first-rounder

The Rams were one of the few teams without a first-round pick in 2017 after trading up to select Jared Goff two years ago. It was a move that has already paid dividends as Goff earned his first Pro Bowl bid in just his second NFL season.

Despite having to wait until No. 44 to make their first selection, the Rams still got plenty out of their rookie class. Although Gerald Everett’s numbers were relatively unexciting, several rookies made a significant impact in Los Angeles.

Cooper Kupp was one of the best first-year receivers in the NFL, John Johnson was a top-20 safety by most measures and Tanzel Smart played relatively well early in the season. In total, Rams rookies played 2,975 snaps – ninth-most in the NFL, according to PFF.

Kupp led the way with 736 snaps played on offense, while Johnson played 715 on defense. Everett was on the field for 297 plays.

There’s a great deal of potential with this draft class moving forward. Kupp and Johnson will remain as starters in 2018, while Everett should see his role increase in Year 2. Josh Reynolds is also a player who could receive some additional playing time next year if Sammy Watkins somehow leaves in free agency.
