Well, honestly, I dunno that they can kill off Daenerys or Jon Snow.

Without them, it’s the Lannister Sibling Shit Show with no viable opposition.

If there are 3 people who can’t die before the end of the series, it’s Daenerys, Jon Snow, and Cersei Lannister.

    Other than that…everyone’s fair game.

We did. The General Manager of the hotel site refuses to call us back and the corporate offices refuse to do anything, falling back on how they can’t tell franchisees what to do (I can guarantee if any employee of the franchisee posted something racist on Facebook, Corporate would INSIST on them being fired, so it’s not really true. Even if via the contract they can’t force them, the idea that corporate can’t do anything is pure bollocks).

So my mom disputed it through her CC company and the charge is removed for now. As soon as my mom sends me the pdf of the reservation, I’ll contact Orbitz through twitter. I sent something to their customer care team on twitter and got a response directly from the @Orbitz site.

It’s still entirely possible that because of a glitch that likely occurred between Trivago and Orbitz’s systems, my mom will have a $605 charge on her CC.

I’ll absolutely fight this because it’s so damn wrong. If the dates were correct, I could see them asserting the “non-refundable” aspect. However, the dates glitched between selecting “reserve” and what the reservation showed. How, exactly, do I correct for a glitch that happened after I typed and before I get the confirmation?

Lastly, since when does “reserve” mean “pay now”???

Doesn’t mean pay now for any other travel related service. “Book” does. Confirm does. But if you reserve a restaurant table, car, hotel or airfare via ANY other method, payment is not taken (and wasn’t from any other hotel we reserved) until the service is utilized or in the case of certain hotels, unless the cancellation policy is violated.

I’m trying not to let it dampen my enthusiasm for this trip, but I haven’t really slept for the last two nights because it’s tearing me up how wrong it is. I’ll take Benedryl tonight if I have to in order to sleep, but it’s just not right.

Actually, that’s nice, but kinda small for 8 people (although the price is nice!)

Our “reference” house in that the floor plan is nigh on perfect is this one:

    St. Paul home

They’re having an open house on Aug 27th from 12-2pm. Really hoping nothing changes for the house other than maybe a price drop before we get into town on the 13th.

Btw, we’ll have to get together for a Caribou Coffee or something (I’m trying to learn about Minny). We’ll save the hotdish for after the move…LOL.

The Dems are only willing to use this for their failing fundraising and to use as a political thing for 2018.

Reps are using Trump to try and pass their agenda before they turn on him. Until and unless there is pressure, they pay no price to stick with the Trumps.

Medicare for All is the first step and it would need to be a quick transition because of the speed with which private insurers will exit markets in order to sabotage the transition.

    It’s not the end goal.

The end goal may have the same name, but it will be a coherent national system that meets the needs of patients, providers, rural and urban hospitals while creating room for both innovation as well as wellness.

That will require iteration beyond the first stab at Medicare for All.

The first explanation from the government was awful. It was unscientific and just terrible.

However, the Purdue Dept of Engineering nailed the explanation and I’ve been satisfied ever since.

It’s just unfortunate that the govt was in such a hurry to put out any explanation that they put out a crap one that fuels conspiracy theories to this day.

    That’s a nice truck.

We’re planning on getting a Suburban K1500 (4×4) if we decide to move there so that all 8 of us can get in or out in the case of really bad weather… and do it all in one vehicle.

For those few times we all want to or need to go out together, it’s really nice to have a singular vehicle.

And pretty sure a plow can be mounted onto the Suburban front.

Here is the more rural property. Not nearly as well situated, but look at that outbuilding!!!

Very nice home at a stunning price it seems. Would actually allow someone to come and take the pool as we’re done with pools.

Beyond that it seems to fit our minimum needs and has that amazing outbuilding so all of the expected vehicles (probably 6) will have covered parking.

Here is a prime example of the type of place we’re looking for. I don’t know the neighborhood other than Internet there sucks with the best provider being Comcast…ugh.

Can anyone tell me about this house and how it looks to handle the MN winters?

I already figured about the long driveway, so that’s a known.

I’ll post another property in a different place that seems more rural, but has an amazing 60×80 outbuilding that could be an amazing workshop and RV parking if we can ever get one.

Also, one thing. It may seem small, but it’s important.

It wasn’t just “two gunshots”. Iirc, it was two gunshots to the back of the head.

That makes a BIG difference. Many people might infer he was shot in the chest or back or any number of places.

But the placement of two to the back of the head is an execution. Now, was it because he put up a fight or for more nefarious reasons?

    I have no idea.

Well, I dunno about what happened with Seth Rich.

And Wikileaks, iirc, has said that Seth Rich was their source.

So, one can’t simply dismiss it when the source is saying it wasn’t the Russians, but a Dem insider who they’ve since acknowledged is Rich.

It’s how Trump got elected. It’s ALL fucked up AND a ton of people were willing to believe the obvious lie (and many still do, vehemently) rather than endorse the corrupt status quo for one more minute.

Unfortunately, the Dems have no fucking idea, think Nancy Pelosi is awesome and that corp Dem Kamala Harris is their savior…. ugh.

    My take, WV, is…AND.

I think the Russians have (yes, present tense) multiple digital vectors into our country’s government and private sector infrastructures.

I also think that Seth Rich was the source of the emails.

I think no matter what the disposition of Rich, Trump et al were going to create a story about Rich’s death that would connect the Clintons.

I’m always leery of commenting on Clinton stuff anymore because she’s just so fucking dishonest and there are so many instances that she and Bill are either the single most persecuted couple of all time OR… some of the stuff is true. What’s difficult about that is that if even ONE thing against them is true (I mean the rape allegations against Bill by Juanita Broderick and others, White Water (remember, it’s not so much that they weren’t guilty as those who could tell the truth went to jail rather than implicate their partners), Hillary Clinton stock trades (actually, those were true, but she couldn’t be prosecuted because her broker went to jail rather than implicate her… a consistency I find troubling) and others.

The thing about these conspiracies like Vince Foster and Seth Rich is that there are ALWAYS some really henky details that just can’t be explained away.

In the Foster case, the idea of an officer of the court (Hillary) trampling a crime scene in order to recover files before the examiner can even get to the body? At best, it’s a stunning level of sociopathy, as in my files are more important than allowing the examiner to get to the body. I dunno the scene, but you can’t tell it’s suicide just because a person has a bullet hole in their head and there’s a gun around. And it’s not like Hillary was doing GSR tests, so she had no ability to determine whether Foster committed suicide or was murdered. In the absence of that knowledge, even if presuming suicide was reasonable, why would an officer of the court who knows the rules of evidence hamper the investigation into his death by altering the scene.

I mean even if she’s given the benefit of the doubt, it’s not good. At all. And of course, at worst, it’s everything the conspiracy theorists imagine.

Same with Rich. Apparently, he was shot in the back of the head and nothing was taken. Help did not arrive so quickly that a thief would have been interrupted. So, details of his death are sketchy. That he is likely the source of the emails to wikileaks is another factor.

So, it’s either that it was the oddest burglary or something wasn’t right.

That’s why I say with Clinton that one can never know. In instances where they were absolutely guilty, they were unprosecutable because others went to jail rather than implicate them. Without her stockbroker going to jail for her, Hillary totally goes to jail for stock fraud. That’s not conjecture.

So, when all of this came out, I saw liberals screaming about Russia.

I saw progressives dismissing the “Russia distraction” and some actually embracing the Rich story, which seemed to align progressives with Trumpettes…

I just see it as likely an AND.

Russia hacked. (The disturbing thing is that we have white hat hackers who have proven that the machines can be hacked and recent elections like the Ossoff election in Georgia’s 6th District had some disturbing anamolies that can’t really be explained outside of machine hacking)

    AND.

Seth Rich transferred the emails to wikileaks (there is evidence that he was disenfranchised with what was going on in the Clinton campaign)

    AND.

Because of a history of dubious activities by the Clintons, we’ll never know why Seth Rich was killed. Botched burglary? Assassination? Political payback? Who knows? I tend to think of these questions as Rohrshach tests, they tell more about the person answering than give any real answer to the question.

I don’t think it serves progressives to dismiss the Russia hacking which is ongoing and poised to be even worse as the relationship between Trump and Putin sours. Russia hacking us and Seth Rich being the source of the Clinton emails can happily coexist.

So cool, both Snow and Eternal could be mah neighbors!

It’s encouraging to find out from locals that the winters are tough but not as bad as I remember in the late 70s when they were brutal (from what I remember seeing on TV, anyway).

Yep. Researched the Minneapolis VA and it’s one of the tops based on my selective criteria (so far, I have to find out if it’s possible to get Botox treatments there)

Also, I love that Minneapolis is a cosmopolitan city with different cultures. I honestly struggle in homogeneous living spaces.

I’ll find out on the 15th if we’re going to be up in that neck of the woods. Our target dates are the 11-20 of Sept or 2-11 of October (with the inner 4 days actually being in the city with 3 days on each end for the drive up).

I give her credit for premasticating the complex issues for a constituency that really struggles with so much depth.

Do I think she gets it that Israel is a huge driver of these things and the added complexity of the corporate interests?

Yes. And I think that she’s simply playing it smart to not overplay Israel’s influence. Seems one becomes an anti-Semite if they dare to mention that rock throwing shouldn’t illicit a death sentence or that occupation is bad no matter who does it. I’m certain that her time deployed to Afghanistan as well as her recent trip to Syria gave her tremendous insight and evidence for the disparity between our foreign policy and reality.

I knew about the gas heat (my grandmother’s house in PA was oil).

We lived in PA for almost 4 years when our 2 oldest were very young, so I remember having to take extra time going places, layering, the absolute importance of good boots, that a clean mud room makes everything better and that winter doesn’t have to mean hibernation.

I grew up in socal, but never minded shoveling snow the 4 winters I was in PA.

Mostly I’m just a little freaked out by the magnitude of the move.

I did know about the snowblower as well as making sure to have blankets and a shovel in the trunk during the winter months.

I just saw that Costco is all over, so that’s good.

I remember the thread on wood stoves and wouldn’t mind learning more.

We’re already mindful of how important it is to make room for separate snow tires (with rims so they don’t have to be mounted multiple times) both in the budget and the garage/ outbuilding if it comes with one.

Are whole house generators a thing in cold? In Florida with all the lightning, it’s a pretty important luxury. Not exactly a necessity, but if the power lines go down (why exactly aren’t they all buried everywhere?) as happens in high winds and cold, what do people do and how long does it take for services to be restored?
