Like the human body… they replaced all the bad cells… wow.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorthere’s reports of physical evidence. Bruising on her arms and neck indicating corroboration of choking.
he’ll still probably walk…ya know…the power of money and all, but there’s enough evidence if the reports are true that the Commish will smash him to show he means business under the new guidelines.

MackeyserModeratorHe didn’t do much for me…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorActually, that minimum has to be 6 PLUS. We don’t even know what the PLUS is…
It’s the six games…PLUS he choked the woman…PLUS she is pregnant. We don’t know how much those escalators (for lack of a better word, I just used contract language. It’s harsh, but works in context and I’m sorry for that) will add. Will it double the suspension to 12 games? Will it treble them in essence turning into a season ban? Will each “only” be worth an additional game?
I bet each escalator will be significant, much like “aggravated” significantly augments penalties in the legal system… like how there’s assault and aggravated assault.
That, coupled with the fact that the ink isn’t even dry on the Commissioner’s letter and I expect that with all eyes on Roger Goodell, he’s going to fall on Ray McDonald like a ELE comet (Extinction Level Event). The kind that they don’t even measure in megatons because the numbers are too big… they use gigatons or petatons… or just… we all gonna DIE.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorI iz disgusted about the Conrath signing. He doesn’t hold the point of attack, he doesn’t penetrate, he doesn’t collapse the pocket and he gets moved on running plays. Every big play involving the twos or threes I saw seemed to involve watching Conrath getting pushed out of the way and the opposing RB running to daylight.
And with Westbrook, you’ve already GOT 5 guys who can play inside… Do they really think he can develop MORE of an inside game? Are they worried about Aaron Donald? Are they keeping him for the day when Langford has to go and they think Conrath can take over (not ever in a million years, just to be clear).
So, Sam’s gonna be out of the league and CONRATH is on our PS.
This day just keeps getting better and better….
Why not make it a trifecta and sign Jason Sehorn to a deal, since now we’re about guys who can’t play… smh so much I’m dizzy…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorOf those picks, Michael Sam is the only one with an uncertain future as Christian Bryant and Garrett Gilbert look to be PS guys barring any acquisitions.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorI would hope the Rams shore up the PS quickly… including MS.
Developing that talent to keep our DL as deep as it is is important.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorExactly… ink’s not even dry on Goodell’s signature of the letter he sent to the NFLPA and he’s going to be tested on the Ray Rice rule…
Plus, reports are that the victim was both CHOKED and is PREGNANT.
It’s like the guy wanted to throw his entire football career away as fast as possible.
Then… add to that that Donte Whitner told a reporter that Harbaugh had one rule… players could do ANYTHING and he’d forgive them and they’d talk it out… EXCEPT put their hands on a woman. Do that and they’re gone.
So, McDonald is in deep with the league and his HC….
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorWell, the Prisco article, especially just STANK of authority… as if he’d gotten inside information… because you and I both know that Pete Prisco is writer and he’s no authority on football. So for him to make bold statements like he did is either really irresponsible or he’s channeling someone else with permission.
That’s why I think Sam may not make it. I don’t hold Prisco in high regard, but I just got this feeling that before we know anything about how other teams might want him for Prisco to just say “Sam’s not good enough” as plainly as he did is about as foreboding as it gets.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorHey, I rooted for Isaac Bruce with the 9ers… I got dizzy and sick doing it, but I did…
After breaking down his vids, I realized I’d root for him no matter where he ended up… well, the 9ers or Seahawks may be much… I’ll…wish him well if he ends up there… but I just got this bad feeling that Prisco and others are writing the narrative of why it’s going to be okay for Michael Sam to not be in the NFL at all… because he couldn’t make it onto the best and deepest DL in football, he doesn’t belong at all.
Talk about stacking the deck…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorYeah, but does Champ Bailey have one of those Brian Baldinger fingers? Holt does and it’s awful, just awful to look at.
Cuz if not, then Champ wins… those NASTY pinkies are automatic DQs in my book. Guys with those should have to wear mittens UNDER PENALTY OF LAW.

MackeyserModeratorSeveral things.
Chase Reynolds is core special teams… one of our best. Teams often carry guys who are ONLY ST guys. I wouldn’t be surprised if he stuck.
Any links for reportage on Rams putting in claims?
Jones and Johnson are in same boat. I think keeping Jones says all that need be said about what Coach Boo thinks of him.
Remember, the Rams ASKED Michael Sam to lose weight in order to be on Special Teams. Then fans ding him for being light. Well, if the Rams wanted a 270lb DE, they had that at the start of OTAs which is what Sam was. Granted he needed to work on his speed a bit, but he also needs to work on his strength a bit. No rookie is a finished product coming into the NFL and Sam is no exception. Problem is that with the current roster breakdown that he fact that the Rams went 2QBs and are carrying Jones and Johnson on the 53 as well as only 5 LBs, I think there won’t be room on the PS for Sam. Fisher made strong allusions to that.
I think Sam won’t make the Rams PS not because the he isn’t good enough but because the Rams will use it as injury backup/development squad and with carrying 2 injured players on the active 53, the PS is just overcrowded… even augmented to 10.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorIf this is remotely accurate… and I agree with most of it, especially Reid, Bryant, and Steward… then this explains the Fisher Presser.
He was really stressing that the Michael Sam experience is over in St. Louis because he’s super unlikely to carry any DEs on the practice squad.
There’s always a chance based on who pops from other squads because I think the Rams FO would love to find a way to get him back into the building, but the numbers just don’t work and Fisher’s not one to dither when they don’t.
But I got this sinking feeling that I’m about to be right about how badly the NFL sucks and I’m really going to resent it…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorEspecially with Hill’s touch being able to hit guys in stride (the one thing that Bradford struggled with more than anything else) plays to Given’s strength much more than Pettis’. Couple that with Kendricks and Bayer being reliable as TEs and the need for Pettis becomes less.
Also, Bailey, Austin, Quick and Britt are all much more reliable than last year…significantly so, actually. I expect the drops to decrease substantially. I imagine Bradford to be sitting at home wondering a little bit, “where was that last year, guys?”
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorI agree. I watched it and I thought he handled all of this well.
I woulda kept him and dumped Cunningham, but that’s me.
I just think that you don’t let talent get away and I think he showed talent…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorI wonder who is out when Bailey comes back. Is it as linear as Pettis?
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorWell…shit.
Worse, I couldn’t agree less with keeping 5 TEs. Justice Cunningham??? Ol Stone hands will cost us down the road and people will rush to blame Shaun Hill when Cunningham is really a glorified OL.
And Barrett Jones on the 53??? Wth?
/shrug.
I watched the presser and Fisher clearly was pushing for Sam to make a DIFFERENT team because the way this team is shaping up, our PS likely won’t carry any DEs. Which is a damn shame.
I said that if Sam was cut, no one would pick him up. Well, he’s cut. We’ll see if I was right… 31 teams don’t have better talent than Sam and that’s a fact. Getting ready to see him not be in the NFL… at all.
Which… my brain just can totally see that and can’t imagine that at the same time. Quantum thoughts should not share a brain with one with a headache. Or maybe they cause them.
I dunno…

I’m also following these guys on the twitter machine…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorThat’s Jack who made this, not Mack.
I think the 9ers are going to have a completely crap year, so we’re not really on the same page there. Same with the Texans. No QB means tough year.
I dunno if I’ll do one of these… not sure, yet. I might… lot of work. I’ve done them before. It’s 256 games…

August 29, 2014 at 2:50 am in reply to: I think Sam Bradford will renegotiate his deal with Rams #5449MackeyserModeratorNo. And I wouldn’t expect anyone to hear anything from him until after they decide what they’re going to do.
I really hope they consider that experimental ACL surgery. He could be ready by Jan/Feb and although that wouldn’t change anything for this season, it would be HUGE for building up strength for the upcoming football season.

August 29, 2014 at 1:27 am in reply to: I think Sam Bradford will renegotiate his deal with Rams #5443MackeyserModeratorWell, dammit, I can see the Patriots doing that… Bradford’s about 10x better than any backup they’ve had and Brady’s durable enough that he’d have time to heal… Although, I dunno how much longer Brady takes less money. He’s pissed about the Logan Mankins trade.
Anyway, we agree in our estimations that this likely won’t be an issue for awhile. I can’t imagine that the Rams will even look at this until the season is over. Since Bradford is on IR, there’s no point.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorSamantha Bee is too funny to me…
Wet dick in the ear….LMFAO!!!
I love how they paint Michael Sam as the straightest guy in the NFL. Only the Daily Show.
Then again, I kinda agree about one sentiment Bernie mentioned. I wouldn’t have said anything. I think the ridicule that came from just about everywhere was so pointed that it would have been more consistent with the existing Michael Sam narrative to just say nothing. Stupid is as stupid does.
That said, I can understand that Jeff Fisher has to set boundaries with respect to media accessing players and in this case, some of this may have been just as much about setting boundaries for a team that he hopes is a playoff team as a team that MAY have the first openly gay NFL player (Lord, how I can’t wait for that phrase to become historical).
What it highlighted for me is that other than a few online things, I avoid ESPN like the plague for this exact reason… Wow…
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
August 29, 2014 at 1:16 am in reply to: I think Sam Bradford will renegotiate his deal with Rams #5440MackeyserModeratorWell, I’m pretty sure that anything they do, they’ll be talking about to Tom Condon and Sam Bradford WELL in advance so that if there’s a plan going forward, everyone’s on the same page.
As well, I seriously doubt that Bradford is going to be courted seriously by teams coming off his 2nd ACL tear with big contract offers. He won’t know any systems and he won’t be ready for anyone else’s training camp or Pre-season unless he does that experimental ACL surgery.
I think we’re pretty much saying the same thing. I just think that if the Rams need to cut him and THEN resign him…then do it. You don’t just do it and not talk with Condon first and of course, you listen to what he has to say, but if anyone understands that it’s a business it’s Tom Condon. And rest assured, if Sam had a massive year, Tom Condon would have demonstrated EXACTLY how much he understood how much of a business it is by how many zeros he wanted the Rams to put on Sams next contract…
So, of course I think they’ll talk it out and work in concert. Most importantly, out of respect for the process that Sam has to go through, I don’t think they’ll do ANY of this until the off-season. I think they’ll respect him and the rehab and wait. Nothing has to happen now so why do it. He’s already been put on IR so that money’s gone. They may as well write the check if they haven’t already (they may have had to when they made the formal designation. I dunno).
The good news is that the 2015 QB class looks loaded unlike the 2014 QB class. I like several guys in it, actually. And if Bradford does stage a comeback and becomes the QB of our dreams, all the better.

August 29, 2014 at 1:05 am in reply to: Goodell Corrects Error: NFL enacts harsh punishments for domestic abusers #5439MackeyserModeratorWell, there’s that.
Plus, as I mentioned, it can’t help but affect the draft. This is now a BIGGER deal than PEDs because if someone’s got a “prior”, that means they are looking at a 6+ game suspension on a first offense. And you really don’t want to be that first guy. But you’re looking at a grocery store type tally.
“Let’s see… we’ve got domestic abuse? Six games. Oh, see you did this before in college and are in the anger management program. That’s another 2 games. You choked her? oooh, that’s another 2 games. She was pregnant? What’s the matter with you? That’s another 2 games. Your total from this ONE incident is TWELVE games. You can pay the cashier on the way out.”
Teams shied heavily away from PED users until later rounds if they knew they were going to have to enter the NFL substance abuse program and face potentially augmented sentencing on their first NFL offense. So much the worse for players who’ve committed domestic battery (and rightly so).
The point is that teams are going to really dig into guys, some of them really high profile to want to know the truth. One of them is the potential #1 guy in the draft, Jameis Winston. He’s had a domestic battery allegation that he abused a freshman following him around that FSU’s been working hard to both “investigate” and obfuscate so that he can keep winning ball games. For years, that sort of thing would just go away. Not now. Teams are going to want to know the truth, especially in light of the 27 OTHER knuckleheaded things he’s done including running out on checks and stealing.
Every draft has an “issue” of one kind or another. Sometimes it’s a position, other times it’s a person, other times it’s a school sending half of its team to the NFL, sometimes it’s scheme and does it translate to the NFL (latest was read option)… This time it’s going to be domestic violence. We’re going to see lots of guys with pure football grades going WAAAY later and Mike Mayock is going to have to say that “the kid should be going earlier but he shouldn’t have put his hands on a woman and it’s costing him big right now.”

August 29, 2014 at 12:53 am in reply to: I think Sam Bradford will renegotiate his deal with Rams #5437MackeyserModeratorWhy extend him? Just cut him and sign him. It’s the business side of things. The Rams have already invested umpteen millions of dollars. And you know me to be pretty sappy when it comes to this stuff, but really, what’ s to be gained by extending him over just writing just a pure “prove it” contract?
If we extend him, it’s not going to be more than 2 years and that 2nd year is going to be voidable, anyway, so it’ll be just like 2 x 1 year contracts. Plus, there won’t be a signing bonus or at least there better not be, so why do it?
Essentially, you could do it on the same day unless there’s a waiting period or something. He wouldn’t have to clear waivers, so it wouldn’t be that. The Rams could cut him and then resign him immediately to the new deal. Whether that happens on the same day may be a function of the Cap and the CBA, but the Rams and Tom Condon can work out the details and both would be clear that they’re on the same page and still value Sam.
Plenty of guys have been cut and resigned because of how it affects the cap. I see no reason why Sam Bradford shouldn’t be treated like any other player in that regard.
The only reason I could think to extend him would be the logistics (just thought of this). If the timeline makes it more of a pain, I could see them essentially extending him and Sam Bradford just agreeing to different terms for the next two years with much lower salary with significant escalator clauses which in essence, would pay him close to what he would have earned if he starts all 16 games and plays well, but if he doesn’t play, he doesn’t make hardly any money. Now THAT I could see… I mean as long as the salaries weren’t guaranteed and any bonuses were Seasonal roster bonuses.
Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
MackeyserModeratorI don’t care where they play. So I don’t want to be seen as taking sides. That’s not my role or why I’m posting in this thread.
I do see some obvious things, obvious to me, anyway, that I want to share.
1) the sale of the Clippers showed that sports franchises in the big market cities are GROSSLY undervalued in current terms. In other words, the Cowboys may be valued at around $2 Billion, but if they were put up for sale? Yeah… they’d go for a LOT MORE than that especially with that new stadium and that very loyal INTERNATIONAL fan base.
2) the Rams moving to Los Angeles would double the value of the team, overnight. That’s really not up for debate. The first NFL franchise in LA will become worth a boatload because the NFL will absolutely demand they have the very best of everything… best stadium, best location…all of it. They’re even likely to hold the next draft in LA. They haven’t announced it, but I’m pretty sure the 2015 NFL draft will be held in LA.
3) St. Louis has NOT been able to establish a loyal fan base over the years. Now, however unfair this may be, the NFL, in evaluating cities, expects fans to come out, win or lose. And they DO for some teams. The Packers sucked for a long time and you still couldn’t pry tickets from a Packer fan. The Steelers went through an extended period of mediocrity (the Tommy Maddox/Kordell Stewart years?) and fans still came out. Now, were they as bad as the Rams extended losing? No. However, the Rams are KNOWN throughout the league as being “home away from home” all too often for teams that travel. Wanna see a bunch of Green Bay fans? Just come to the Ed when the Packers play the Rams. Wanna see a bunch of Cowboy fans? The list goes on. I’m not saying it’s fair or even right. It just is what it is. The people who can afford the good seats are all too happy to sell them to out of towners who show up on TV and make the noise… for the opposing team. And the NFL has noticed. Clearly noticed. As has ownership.
4) St. Louis is broke. Neither the city nor county has money for an NFL team and frankly, for a billionaire to ask them for money is inappropriate. Not that it’ll stop anyone, but still. That said, folks are becoming savvy to this scam of getting cities to pony up hundreds of millions of dollars on 30 year bonds only to potentially lose a team after half that and then be stuck finding an alternate way of paying off those bonds because the stadium can only hold so many “Home Shows” and concerts in a year.
5) Much of the Rams problems in Los Angeles were a direct result of previous ownership. Georgia Frontiere DESPERATELY wanted to be part of Hollywood and they resented her for it. So much so that she couldn’t buy her way in. Literally. Other than fundraisers, she was persona non grata in Hollywood even among feminists who would otherwise bristle at the idea of ostracizing the only female owner in the NFL. When Carol Rosenbloom owned the Rams, they were a darling of Hollywood (granted, they were a better team) and embraced by the city. That’s kind of important because Los Angeles is a star and money driven town. If the Rams go back with monied ownership and the NFL’s glitzy star-powered support, I’d be shocked if the city didn’t rush to embrace them. Finally, stars could see the NFL while filming… Even if they weren’t Rams fans, it’d still for 8 weeks a year be among the hottest tickets in town. And in LA like NY, that MEANS something.
So, it’s always possible that Kroenke will self-finance a stadium in St. Louis. That’s possible. But…why? Other than that the fans would like it… Stan Kroenke is one of the most successful real estate developers in the entire world. Unless he decides to eat a Billion dollars worth of appreciation because of his emotional attachment to keeping the Rams in St. Louis…
I just want the Rams to hoist the Lombardi. I couldn’t care less if they do it as the Topeka Rams. That said, I think at this point, with the NFL appointing an executive specifically to putting a team in LA, Tim Leiweke, former head of AEG that led the Farmers group before is returning to LA reportedly to head up the LA 2024 Olympic bid which would include an NFL football stadium and the momentum that is moving toward LA, I just think it’s bound to happen.
For the loyal St. Louisans, I feel bad. It felt like a gut punch when the Rams left LA and I vowed I would never EVER root for them again and then preseason 1999 came around and I started watching them and the rest is history. It’s not a fait d’accompli, but… imho I don’t see in sussing this out how the Rams stay. None of the “Rams stay” scenarios make any sense to me.
Anyway, that’s my take, right or wrong…

August 28, 2014 at 10:55 pm in reply to: I think Sam Bradford will renegotiate his deal with Rams #5423MackeyserModeratorSure he does. He could take ALL the money.
He may get cut or he may not.
Once the Rams get to 2015, based on their record (say the do well and finish 10-6), they may decide to stick with Hill, draft someone and wait for Bradford to come along.
At that rate, he’ll either be cut or renegotiate THEN. In March.
He’s already been put officially on IR. He’s got his money for 2014. All of it. The injury settlement and redoing his contract is pretty much out.
The only question now is if he gets outright cut in March or if he redoes his deal. And once March comes around, the Rams don’t owe him anything as he’s on the last year of his contract. So, what is there to renegotiate? The Rams could renegotiate him if they feared he’d go somewhere else, but where’d the market be for a 2 ACL QB with “potential” as his biggest selling point?
Nah, he’s almost certainly gonna be a cap casualty in March to ensure that the Rams are out from under that contract, then they’ll right a new one that takes into account his current medical situation. In order to renegotiate, Sam has to be able to give something back. What can he give back? Salary? The 2015 Salary isn’t guaranteed, so it’s gone if he’s cut. The cap hit from bonuses has already been paid and cannot be given back.

MackeyserModeratorDavis throws a good ball. I don’t know what we have in Davis. I don’t know about his deep ball. From what I’ve seen, it looks good, but if he were our starter, I’d be worried. Not jumping off the ledge, but worried.
That said, he went from having a kinda crappy camp to earning that 2nd spot in convincing fashion.
