I’m getting ‘more’ mentally lazy in my old age. Actually, the doubling rule of thumb thing would have it at 30 X 2 = 60 X 2 = 120 X 2 = 240 so 240 Million is approximate answer and then add to it whatever the LA market glamour factor. If one doesn’t think it’s worth much, let the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner know that too.

I’m not even sure I understand the principle
behind the “relocation fee.” Why, exactly
does one owner have to pay the other owners money
in order to move a team? Whats the logic there?

    v

I don’t have a direct answer to that, but it’s from not knowing all the info, not because there might not be one. There might be a good answer. I will say this. NFL teams aren’t “owned” in the traditional sense…they are franchises, and and owners are bound by league regs and rules, which they agree to. In fact the league can fail to approve a sale to a particular prospective owner.

I explained the reason why in my post. Instant appreciation of the franchise with a move to LA. The NFL wants to convey an image of franchise stability in markets. Those owners that want to buck that have to pay a relocation fee if the move is approved by a vote of the owners. In the case of LA the new valuation of the team will be a windfall for Kroenke before any work is done on a stadium. He didn’t earn that. The NFL earned that. Plus Kroenke has made out like a bandit in St. Louis. He can’t claim he isn’t making money. He wants to make more in LA. Bucking franchise stability should come at a great cost especially since St. Louis is getting screwed again.

$500 million isn’t high enough for Kroenke. He’s benefitted large in the move from LA to St. Louis and now forces a move back to LA simply to make more money through the immediate appreciation of the team in LA? The relocation fee should be the difference in the valuation between the team in St. Louis and the team in LA since it is value gained via the NFL granting the move. Kroenke shouldn’t be allowed to walk away with that money which wasn’t earned.

Well Apthonius had it figured out 1600 years ago.

A History of Speech – Language Pathology
    Ancient History: 3500 BC – 500 AD

    Speech-Language Dictionary
    Aphthonius of Antioch
    4th C AD

Aphthonius of Antioch was a Greek philosopher, teacher of rhetoric and an orator, who worked and wrote during the second half of the 4th century AD. He was known for his skill as an orator, performing in a simple style, like the Attic style of the ancient Greeks.

He also became well known for his instructional textbook, called Progymnasmata. The book contained exercises to use with students in schools specializing in rhetoric. The exercises, drawn from those developed in ancient times allowed students to understand, analyze, and produce both oral and written rhetoric.

Aphthonius’ teaching program, as presented in his book, included fourteen progymnasmata, beginning with the fable. Students learned to define the fable, to classify it into types, to situate the moral either at the beginning or the end. They were asked to analyze a particular fable.

The second progymnasma is the narrative, which, like the fable, is defined and classified into subtypes. The students are instructed on the elements of a narrative (who, what, when, where, how, and why) and its qualities (clarity, brevity, and plausibility). As with a fable, students are provided with a model narrative for analysis.

Kroenke already has a fantastic deal in St. Louis. It’s the envy of most owners. Which makes him even more of a putz with his threat of a move to LA.

He should have used brevity too.

    That was the 19th century.

The invention of “be brief, concise, and laconic” hadn’t happened yet.

That’s like saying he should have microwaved his coffee when reheating it.

Don’t have to be laconic. Impassioned is fine. Droning on and on to hear ones own voice is bad form in any century.

I don’t get his tell them to use moderation but not him.

That there can be no moderation about abolishing slavery. There are no half-measures or compromises. You abolish slavery or you don’t, it’s one or the other, no half-steps. He’s reacting to people who called abolitionists “extremists.” There is no moderation in demanding slavery be abolished.

OK though why use the moderation line regarding situations in which it will not be observed? He should have gotten out more.

Making an Indian mound out of a mole hill. The stadium sites western border lies over a small portion of where two mounds used to be. Not entire mounds but a small portion of a footprint of two mounds that are no longer there.

Former mound locations in relation to the proposed stadium site.

Mounds at the proposed stadium site

The site of the proposed riverfront football stadium covers the former locations of several Native American mounds. The locations, marked in red below, are approximate.

There are no tribal stakeholders for the site since the tribes in question are extinct. Even Cahokia Mounds has no tribal stakeholders since the Mississippian Culture abandoned it and died out before european settlement of the area. This is a thinly veiled attempt to delay the stadium process. This property has been developed for over a century and all of eastern MO along waterways and definitely within 2 miles of the Mississippi River likely show some signs of Indian activity. I wouldn’t be surprised if a developer with a big project in the works in CA is behind this effort. I also wouldn’t be surprised if his acreage in CA could harbor Indian sites too.

This is 2 days after the draft.

Sounds like both sides cooled on each other though.

Rams lost any urgency after the draft; JB didn’t like the fact that the Rams wouldn’t meet his demands so left out of pride and spite.

Then again, that;s a TST article, and so maybe they don’t really know and are just running on old info.

Were I prone to nail biting, I would now be biting mine when thinking about the relative inexperience of the Rams current crop of offensive linemen.

Nip that cuticle abuse in the bud. The Rams have Gurley. Who needs an O line when Gurley can fly? And in case of a false start Gurley can spin the Earth backwards to go back in time and correct any mistake. Yes we have Gurleyman.

Third off, ball control and power running means controlling the clock and wearing down the opposing defense while keeping your defense fresher. The object is to win in the 4th quarter.

I thought all of this stuff was universally appreciated.

It should be. Such strategy best fits the personnel makeup of this team.

    Ranked for attempts:

    New England 2014: 7th passing, 13th running
    Seattle 2013: 31st passing, 2nd running
    Baltimore 2012: 15th passing, 12th running
    NY Giants 2011: 6th passing, 7th rushing
    Green Bay 2010: 10th passing, 16th running

    Seattle, 31st in passing, remarkable…….

That was 2013. Last year they were 32nd.
