December 22, 2016 at 11:33 am in reply to: Trump's pick for budget director questions whether govt should fund science #61520bnwBlocked
So this is a credible news source the liberals bray about? The fourth word in the third sentence “seems” relegates this to nothing but conjecture. Now about Zika what the article didn’t go into is that he is correct to question the link between Zika and microencephaly. I posted about this some time ago. In Brazil the microencephaly was initially prevalent where certain agricultural chemicals were allowed to be used on crops and coincided with the Brazilian government mandating the use of a new vaccine cocktail for pregnant women. Whether these are credible explanations are not it is apparent the microencephaly “epidemic” stops at the Brazilian border. There is even doubt that the incidence of it has actually increased due to the lack of a coordinated data collection system.
The point is, the new budget director openly questions whether the federal government should fund scientific research and he uses our lack of knowledge about the Zika virus as his reasoning? Seems to me that’s exactly why the federal govt needs to continue to fund research. Microcephaly associated with Zika has been reported from 12 countries. So whatever the reason for the Colombia descrepency, the link between the virus and microcephaly still holds.
Microencephaly occurs in all nations. Zika has been around for at least 70 years in the tropics. That some women IN OTHER COUNTRIES are now identified as having the Zika virus and a child with microencephaly does not prove causation. Again the microencephaly so called epidemic STOPS AT THE BRAZILIAN BORDER. Caps used to provide emphasis of salient fact that apparently is conveniently overlooked or ignored.

bnwBlockedWell I dunno. I dont know what you mean by ‘leftist bias’.
It’s bs.
If you look at any normal faculty ratio there are invariably as many conservatives as leftists if not more.
This is the kind of thing said by people who swallow Limbaugh nonsense whole and do not really know the situation they’re trying to talk about.
I know for a real hardcore fact it’s bs.
…
Proof please.

bnwBlockedAnd it’s not even scientists in the USA that are pushing this…they agree that anthropomorphic climate change is happening. It’s not even being debated anymore. They’ve moved way beyond that.
——————
Well what finally persuaded me (cause i am always skeptical of gov-ment and official sources) was the fact that so many and diverse organizations world-wide
adopted the consensus-view. I mean, when Marxist-Cubans and US-corporatists, and French organizations and Scandanavian organizations and Japanese organizations and all kinds of groups that have NOTHING in common other than science, all agree — then i have to listen. But then as Arnold sez, it dont even matter — cause there’s other reasons to change our ways. Pollution being the main reason.

vYes they all agree they want more money. Theres the consensus.

———
Except its not ‘the government’ that supports the climate-change-consensus. Its lots and lots and lots of different kinds of governments and organizations all over the world. Japan, Cuba, Norway, France, etc, etc.If it were just the USA that was pushing this, it would be one thing — but its not.
w
vNo you’re wrong. It is governments around the world that support the manmade CO2 caused global warming in order to reap huge tax revenues from all people. You of all people should be able to see how crass the scam really is.

bnwBlockedI’ve seen enough for this to be my vote, and it always will be my vote.
The overwhelming majority of scientists from all over the world, and from a wide array of fields, have arrived at the consensus view that climate change is real and human caused.
The USA is the only advanced country in the world where there is a notable percentage of people who deny this.
But then the USA is the only advanced country in the world where large corporate interests dominate what counts as news.
…
And yet it remains a theory. Only a theory. Its proponents have failed miserably in applying it to predict future effects over the last 20 years. Once the government stops supporting the nonsense with bags of cash watch how fast your so called scientific consensus evaporates. I am proud that my field of science has not been suckered nor seduced by the government/MSM campaign of manmade global warming. Unlike all other areas of science we know the earth’s past since it is either what we do or essential to what we do. Yet when the proponents of manmade global warming assemble their grand multi-disciplinary scientific panels at their well publicized conferences only one field of science is not invited. All the various scientific disciplines present under the broad umbrella of geology are never invited. I suspect those days too are fast coming to an end with the Trump administration and a true comprehensive scientific approach towards assessing the theory of manmade CO2 causing global warming will ensue.

That isn’t the issue. The issue is whether manmade CO2 causes warming.

IMO, any college who hides behind “tolerance” to eliminate real free speech should have its federal student loan program revoked. No free speech zones or sensitivity safe campuses. Return to what free speech is all about. Just like this forum. We can disagree with each other here. We may not like what someone else says, but we can agree to disagree.
Well, it CAN’T be free speech if you are threatening to take money away from the program.
The problem is – who decides what is “hiding behind tolerance?” Because the people in charge of determining that are necessarily going to be political.
C’mon. You know colleges have had a hayday in restricting free speech on campus. And they collect federal money. It’s time to call them out. If they want federal funding, then remove this ridiculous limitation of free speech.
Exactly. How difficult can it be to teach a class not preach to a class? We write that check for their expertise not indoctrination.

I absolutely agree. The professors are there to teach the subject not preach their personal political beliefs. Unfortunately too many of them view classroom time as a paid opportunity to spout their political agenda and then docking the grades of the students who disagree with them as their weapon of choice. Things are about to change for the better and it is long overdue.

Mid to upper 80s was very nice and the breeze was awesome. Saw a monster lobster but couldn’t take it since we were inside a research area. Lots of conchs too.

Best of luck in your new endeavor. Making more time for the family is never the wrong way to go . Was it the amount of time and effort wasted on paperwork and hassling with insurance companies, rising malpractice insurance and inadequate medicare compensation? My son is seriously thinking about going into medicine and this is what he is hearing from local physicians.

December 20, 2016 at 11:26 pm in reply to: Sandy Hook Truther Arrested for Threatening to Kill Parent of Murdered Child #61401bnwBlockedI agree with your post-a lot! I know people that are friends but “I’ve given up discussing this stuff because of their partisanship polarization. And I’m just as sure they have given up on me for the same reason. So I ask : whatever happened to discourse. I do have a theory: We’ve been taught to take this stuff personally. When that happens there is no backing down because our own core is under attack. Like people over identifying with their favorite football team.
Wish it were not so.
When you call someone deplorable and irredeemable etc. you’re not interested in discourse.

Really, almost all of those decisions were made to respect the families of the dead. I watched it unfold, almost everyone in the town supported and agreed with every one.

December 20, 2016 at 11:22 pm in reply to: Sanders Nailed It On Identity Politics & Inequality & the MSM missed the point #61399bnwBlockedThis has nothing to do with the article but to me as long as those that should be having children are not and those that should not be are there is really not much hope for any progressive movement-be it Sanders, Stein, Warren, or Hopalong Cassidy. I am shocked at the number of ignorant, racist, hateful and yes “deplorable” people that are part of this country. Unfortunately, I think their numbers are growing.
So who are the should and who are the should nots? Odd that I have to be the one to ask.

bnwBlockedHere is a tip for cooking hamburger. You don’t have to use any oil. Just dust the bottom of your pan with a light coating of salt. The hamburger will cook in its own fat. I use this method. It works good for making chili with ground beef. It saves having to drain the excess fat if you use 85/15 hamburger. Of course, hamburger can vary. Sometimes 85/15 will have more fat than 80/20. But remember, fat is flavor. I mostly use 85/15 for chili to control the excess fat. I think ground chuck at 80/20 makes the best hamburgers. It you do have some excess oil, use that to saute some onions or fry some potatoes.
There is no perfect dish or recipe. The perfect dish is the one you like. So cook things the way you like.
Nice looking pie and great information here too. Thanks!
