I love it. The establishment is sweating bullets over the republican nomination of Trump and the rising schism represented by Sanders within the democrat party. Will is witnessing the fruits of his 3 decades of cheerleading globalism that has enriched his ilk while devastating the middle class and devastating our standing within the world community by our war mongering. The people don’t believe what he spews out of his pie hole any more. Same for establishment types from the democrat side. People see that what the establishment claims is good for the people is only good for the establishment. Look at how D.C. and the surrounding counties have suffered over the last 3 decades. Yes that was a joke. Those areas have always done great and have been insulated from the economic policies devastating other parts of the nation. The people want jobs. They don’t want to increase their tax burden or the future tax burden on their children by flooding this country with illegal aliens and unvetted refugees who do not respect our culture nor our laws and judicial system. The people do not want to face even greater competition for jobs when the jobless rate given by the government greatly underestimates the true rate of unemployment. The people do not want to see their jobs outsourced overseas nor do they want to be forced to train their foreign worker replacing them by the abuse of the H-1B program.

Jobs. Its all about jobs. The people are tired of watching the economic opportunity for their children shrink to the point that the choice in most of this nation is either unemployment, crime, working 3 part time jobs with no benefits or the military. The military should not be used as a jobs program.

Establishment types like Will are going to witness their becoming the next Dodo Bird within the next few years. Their repudiation will be complete since they were only ever successful in their self serving agenda masquerading as them ever giving a damn about the people. The people are turning a deaf ear to the professional polished politicians trained in deceit, raised in expectation of entitlement at the peoples expense and experienced in speaking before a teleprompter from both sides of their mouth.

Enjoy your insignificance Will. For true justice would be you and your ilk having to be on your hands and knees cleaning up the mess you made.

he Brexit vote wasn’t racism. It was nationalism.

“Nationalism” can be the foundation for “racism”. Just another way to excuse it. 87% of Britain’s population is white. Immigration fears was in large part the fuel that drove brexit. My own definition of racism includes the “I don’t like you because you’re different than I am”. Britain has a long hx of this type of thinking. My wife is Irish. My neighbor is from England and (jokingly) refers to her as the “mick” across the street. If he was serious I would call that a racist remark.

The push back from globalization can also be said to be racist based. The uneducated older working class saw their jobs being taken by those “different”-hence the move toward “nationalism”.

The EU was born from two world wars and provided a sense of economic security among a fractured Europe. Now Germany will once again become the strongest economic power in Europe a forbidding thought to those who recall the past. Putin could not be more happy today.

A personal anecdote: My closest friend owns a manufacturing company in the sports business. A huge market for his equipment is in Europe and the far east. He is rightfully concerned that with the loss of our strongest ally in the European market he will be unable to continue to access those markets with the same economic freedom as before. And yet he is still a strong supporter of Trump who champions brexit. Go figure.

I think you go out of your way to find racism. It is what democrats are prone to do because within the party they are rewarded for it. The UK voted for independence. That isn’t racism. Why is it that people of color can take pride in their culture even when they have fled from their country to a country with a completely different culture yet caucasians are never afforded the same right? The EU was dumping immigrants and criminals into the UK. The people realized that their vote didn’t matter since their government was subservient to Brussels. After 40 years they said enough. It was a voluntary union from the start.

Mick is a racist remark? I don’t get that at all. Polock, Dago, Wop, Kraut are not racist either. Irish, English, Polish, Italian, German are all predominantly caucasian so how can that be racist? Now spic or spear chucker sure that is racist since that isn’t about a specific nationality. Just like cracker is racist. I grew up in St. Louis and we used Mick, polock, dago, wop, kraut and others all the time and there wasn’t a chip on anyones shoulder.

I disagree that opposition to globalization is based upon racism. That is so insulting, so out of touch. For those who have been harmed by their jobs being sent overseas or over the border it is about the strain on their family, community, and region for no other reason than to make some greedy son of a bitch a little more profit by committing economic treason. After decades of this the pain adds up and people have had enough. It is exactly the same dynamic that Trump has tapped into for the presidential campaign. People want to work. They want their jobs to be a priority of their government. Before globalization that was the case.

Germany is the strongest economic power in europe followed by the UK, France and Italy. What is forbidding about that? Germany has already been hit hard by the sanctions placed on Russia since considerable trade takes place between the two countries. The UK remains a member of NATO so I can’t see Putin cracking much of a smile.

How have we lost our “strongest ally in the european market”? The UK is still the 5th largest economy in the world. Nothing will change between the US and the EU because of the Brexit.

I am curious BNW, what is your definition of racism ? I never really thought all that much about it just lumping all things ;racist, racism , prejudice, bigotry together. Imo racism is different, it’s an ism a system that’s rigged where as racists and bigots come in all forms of human.

I agree with your definition. A system such as apartheid. The Brexit vote wasn’t racism. It was nationalism.

TSRF, I thought about it and perhaps its still too soon for me regarding Thordaddy’s passing but your painting him as the “lunatic fringe Right” is as inaccurate as it is insulting. He and I never discussed Trump simply because he wasn’t on the radar and then when he began to get noticed Thordaddy’s illness became worse and I’m sure he would have rather spent his time with family. However there isn’t any doubt in my mind he would be supporting Trump as the nominee. And since Trump is the nominee by definition his supporters are not the “lunatic fringe Right”.

I find it odd that you would paint him that way especially on the topic of gun control since you posted this in his passing away thread-

After I had a few days to simmer down, I realized that he was the mainstream early 21 century American opinion on gun control and that I, with my utopian idea of keeping assault rifles out of the hands of lunatics was the crazy one.

Once I realized I was the irrational one, I sort of apologized, and he accepted, and we moved on. I never really apologized, and now I’ll never have the chance, at least not on this reality.

Well let me challenge you a bit on this part of that meme, bnw — Lets just say the government turns all fascist/evil because of this or that, and decides to go to war against its own citizens — How would having some stray semi-auto weapons save the day for the ‘people’ ?
I mean the government would have F-15s, stealth weapons, drones, chemical weapons, bio-weapons, neutron bombs, cluster bombs, napalm, agent-orange, depleted uranium weapons, submarines, aircraft carriers…. yes? Now how is a family or village going to fight that with a handful of semi-automatic weapons?

Now, maybe you just think the semi-autos are useful to defend against…bad individuals or gangs. Which would be different. But you dont think they would be useful against the Government do you?

    w
    v

It isn’t as clean as you say. Look at the fall of the Soviet Union. There was no rollover of unity. There were various factions that had control over various pieces of the military industrial complex. Individual base commanders had autonomy over their immediate region. The MSM didn’t give the true scale of the disorder as Yeltsin on a tank was the symbol fed to the West. Yeltsin was helped greatly in consolidating power by the West buying the support of those commanders. Such efforts were particularly in earnest regarding their nuclear triad and research facilities. Outside of that there was a real wild west air throughout the rest of the country. Everything was for sale and at rock bottom prices. Life was cheapened in a micro sense but not macro. It is that macro sense in which the firepower you posit would have been used against the people but wasn’t. That was a nation that spanned two continents that possessed some of the most advanced weaponry on earth. A war against its people using the weaponry you suggested would not be in the interest of any domestic faction.

What you suggested is more on the lines of what much smaller nations under despotic rule endure. A good example would be Iraq where Saddam used chemical weapons against the Kurds at Halabja and Karbala in the north and the tanks, artillery and helicopter bombings in the south. When Saddam opened the armories and dispensed weapons to the people with the US invasion of Iraq the ensuing cost to the US forces were quite great. From RPG and IED attacks to ambushes in the streets the toll on the US forces caused small enclaves from which patrols rolled through territory not pacified. Without opening the armories as Saddam did the US occupation would not have been as difficult or costly.

I think there could be a middle ground here between the two examples. While bases are obvious centers of power as are naval ships the widespread nature of our missile defense could pose great danger everywhere.

Now whether semi-auto armed resistance will be sufficient for ‘victory’ who knows. But you don’t want to show up at a shoot out armed with a knife as they say.

What a dumb article. Do blacks and hispanics who support gun rights also do so out of prejudice? Of course not. No one does. Not a single incidence of denying anyone of any race who wants to become proficient in the safe use of their firearm. Yet according to that dumb article that can’t possibly be. But it is. Law abiding citizens have their 2nd Amendment right to a firearm and that training isn’t denied because of race.

However, my point was limited to what I consider the silly fear mongering the NRA continues to use-and lots of people buy it-that-in its most simplest of terms- someday the government’s storm troopers will break your door down and demand a Sophie’s choice-your guns or your children? That’s it.

If a bomb was in the fluffy teddy bear a whole lot of people could be killed. Just takes some thought. Even simpler ways too. Mass murderers are not by any means limited to the AR-15 or any other firearm.

Because without the inanimate object the mass killing wouldn’t happen.

Not true. Just takes a little more thought. Thought. Yes that is the murderer again.

The gun makes it easy. Without the gun it’s too complicated and therefore prohibitive for the majority of mass killers. No semiautomatics means there would be much fewer mass killings.

Lots of things can make it easy. Even easier than using an AR-15. Things much easier to obtain than an AR-15. The AR-15 has been for sale to civilians for over 50 years yet all of a sudden it is this killing machine? No. The difference is the murderer. What accounts for the murderer? What has changed to create the murderer? Instead of finding out the real answers behind the creation of the mass murderers the inanimate object is blamed.
