The Rams game isn’t highlighted on NFL.com. The Rams site lists a 8 pm ET start. Is the game on another network?

September 1, 2016 at 2:39 pm in reply to: A cross between Huey Long, Pinochet, David Hasselhoff"? #51992bnwBlockedWV,
That one about the 13 trillion. Not sure if he goes into more detail about the repercussions of a bailout from the bottom up. But, it’s pretty obvious that it would do amazing things beyond his initial listing. People with paid for houses and no debt have all kinds of “disposable income” they never had before, and they’d likely spend it. If they’re from the “working class,” they’d likely spend all of it here, in this economy, which rich folks don’t.
If the goal is to improve a capitalist economy, there is really no better way than to get money into the hands of the poor on up to the middle. They’ll spend 100% of that here, now, whereas the richer one gets, the lower that percentage goes . . . . In effect, the richer one is, the more one takes money OUT of a capitalist economy.
So, beyond the ethical and moral dimensions of a bottom up bailout . . . . and the obscenely unethical and immoral dimensions of bailing out the rich . . . . it’s just smart economics under a capitalist system. Radically increase disposable income for the people who will spend 100% of that income here, now.
Of course, the billionaires will never let this happen, but they should. They’d make money too. A ton.
WTrump addressed that in his Immigration Speech last night. Remember all the talk about ‘shovel-ready’ jobs? What a joke.

September 1, 2016 at 2:33 pm in reply to: Ultraviolet light reveals how ancient Greek & Roman statues really looked #51991bnwBlockedInteresting, ZN.
My first degree’s minor was Art History. We touched very lightly on the colors of those statues, but it was there for us. Amazing how first impressions take hold, because from my aesthetic point of view, I’m moved more by the statues with the color faded away. My guess is that if I had grown up with the color, I would have preferred that, but who knows?
Then again, there is always that “acquired taste” thing. Prior to visiting Ireland, I wasn’t always so thrilled with seeing brightly colored homes or businesses in a row. After seeing them close up, and often, I grew to love them. Haven’t been to the Scandinavian countries, but they have a lot of that as well.
Colors done well. When it’s right, it fits in so much better with the environment . . . so it would be interesting to see those statues with their original colors in context. Again, when it comes to buildings, I really liked the way — rooftops, especially — they blended in so well with hills, mountainsides, the coasts in France. Mostly slate and a kind of amber color, and it was pretty universal in most towns in the South. Studying Cezanne more than prepared me for that, for that special kind of adaptation to the environment which is all too rare in America.
Too often our cities and towns seem to be an expression of conquering and exploiting surrounding nature, instead of harmonizing with it. Much of Europe was built with a different view of things.
The US sw is an area where this can still be seen especially those buildings built with local resources taking the local climate into account before A/C became common. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West is a high end example of that.

If so, you know it has nothing to do with physical fitness.
Opening a jar, or being unable to open a jar, is without question the poorest test for the presidency I have ever heard of.
Yet it was the test the Hildabeast campaign chose to fix in her favor to address the issue of her health.
You know it was on the Jimmy Kimmel Show, right? This wasn’t a press conference where Hillary came out to demonstrate her fitness for the presidency with a feat of strength. I can’t believe you take this seriously. It. Was. A. Joke.

This is what our country has come to. The alt-right, with their legion of white supremacist lunatics leading the charge, is lost in a sea of paranoia and delusion . . . . perhaps, like WV suggests, due to mental illness. To me, it’s one more sign of how far things have broken down that they have any media/societal power at all, or that HRC thinks it’s necessary to respond to their idiocy.
IMO, it’s not too much of a stretch to worry about fascism arising from all of this. I see the alt-right as fascist to begin with . . . but, and this may sound counterintuitive, a response to their brand of fascism might be yet another kind. A strengthening of inverted totalitarianism (Sheldon Wolin).
Sheesh. I’m depressing myself!

————
Yes, but I’m interested in who these rightwing-conspiracy types are,
and how they got that way. I think many are mildly to moderately to extremely
mentally ill. Not all, but many. I suspect that because i work with many
mentally ill defendants and many of them have ‘those views’.Mental illness in all kinds of forms is on the rise in America. Google
the numbers. At least it seems to be. Especially among the poverty-stricken. If it is…why?Sometimes i think the ‘system’ causes mental illness (not on purpose of course)
and then the system blames the mentally ill for their wacko-views. Sometimes. At any rate, Alex is mentally ill in my view. Having said that I would ‘assume’
Kimmel’s people and Hillary’s people made damn sure she would succeed at opening the jar.
I mean if YOU were on Hillary’s staff wouldn’t you make damn sure she was
gonna be able to open that jar? Maybe they picked the jar or picked the type of jar
or loosened it or had Hillary practice with similar jars…somethin like that.
Cause they would not take a chance. No way they would take a chance on that.Granted, it aint the least bit important to the Non-brain-dead
whether she can open jars or not. But then how many Americans
really vote on ‘policy’ issues ? I dunno.w
vAre you really that naive? The stunt was to deflect growing media coverage about Hildabeasts health. Of course it was fixed. That IS the point. She takes weekends off. She gives 10 minute speeches with almost no time speaking with the people before or after her ‘event’. Her SUV has a lift step added to help her get in and out of the vehicle. She is photographed with people steadying her while in public. It is so obvious her health is an issue and that is a valid concern to voters especially that 10 – 15% undecided at this time. What you deride as ‘mental illness’ is valid query and YOU KNOW IT. The press enjoys a 6% FAVORABLE rating amongst the american people for much the same reason.

Is it still a joke when people are fired and Google was caught scrubbing results for searches on Hildabeast’s health? This is just the latest scrubbing of results from Google for Hildabeast. The search results were scrubbed for queries on “media coverage of the Clinton Foundation” and “Clinton Foundation” and “Clinton AP story” and “Clinton Crimes” too. Hildabeast used the pickle jar stunt to demonstrate her ‘strength’ and by extension her being physically ‘fit’. Like everything else about Hildabeast the stunt was rigged in her favor. I really think now it’s just right-wing elites are afraid that they can’t trust Trump to do their bidding for the richest 0.1%. It’s a philosophical disagreement on just how to control the world. And, they just can’t predict how Trump will act. If Trump met with these elites and gained their trust, they wouldn’t care what kind of hellfire his presidency would rain down on the rest of the world, just as long as he can convince the overlords that they’ll be shielded from the fallout.
He has met with them and told them no thanks. They are called the Establishment. The Establishment wants Hildabeast to win because she is one of their own. Trump is not beholden to them and will probably go after them when in office which is why they unite behind Hildabeast.

August 30, 2016 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Kaepernick is righter than you know-the national anthem celebrates slavery #51921bnwBlockedAnd then, there is historical evidence out there that ties these lines in the 3rd verse to the British habit of using hired mercenaries and captured American soldiers who were forced to work on the British behalf.
Nonetheless, even if the lyrics are meant in bigotry (it is known that FS Key owned slaves), it is clear that 99.9% of Americans don’t even know that 3rd verse and the vast majority would never sing them. Trying to tie past viewpoints to current understanding doesn’t seem fair to people who are alive today. Those should remain with the dead.
Yes, the US fought the War of 1812 due in great part to the British not respecting our sovereignty throughout the world by the actions of their press gangs and harassment of US flagged shipping.
I agree that saddling people with the actions of those passed long ago is a disservice and a scam.

Far lighter than spears it is able to be carried and thrown repeatedly on the run with great hitting force and accuracy. Spears would have been used after the animal dropped to deliver the coup de grace.
It should be obvious the neanderthals were responsible for their destruction due to neanderthal made climate change.

Yep. As many of you know, I live in the BA. I felt for the fans in LA in 94 and I feel for the fans in the STL today. Let’s face it…we’re all pawns for dollars. This is the reason why I don’t buy much NFL gear. A hat here, maybe a jersey there. I do spend the dinero for Sunday Ticket..every other year, when I can threaten them with Comcast or ATT Uverse and get it for free. And when I do see the Rams live here in the South Bay, I drink a few beers pre game and they’re lucky to get $20 for the two I buy in the stadium.
See, back in the 80’s my dad told me stories about Georgia Frontiere. As told to him by Marv Goux, the defensive line coach under Robinson. They had a bond. Goux knocked out my dad in a high school practice at Santa Barbara High in the late 40s.
I cannot go into detail, since teams monitor every board, even a small one like this one. I found this out a couple years ago, to my great consternation.
It’s all about greed in sports. Even the Olympics. Nobody’s hands are clean. The players, the owners, the fans.
Greed.
Fuck em all. But I’m still gonna watch.

bnwBlockedWas listening to the news and learnt that the medicine in the pen costs $1. The only thing unique about the pen is the technology to deliver the dose. Yet that technology was developed by the US government in 1977 and given to the company.
Now the drastic increase in price of the pen in recent years coincides with the changing of the law which now requires schools to stock the pen and the increase in the company’s CEO’s salary from $2.7 million per year to $19 million per year.
BTW the price of two of those epi-pens is $85 in France. It seems the US citizen was chosen to be severely gouged.
About that change of law benefiting this company and coinciding with the massive price increase to US citizens AND the nearly 700% increase in the CEO’s salary-
CEO behind EpiPen hike is senator’s daughter
By ROBERT KING • 8/24/16 11:54 AM
The top executive of the company that raised the price of its EpiPen 400 percent may come to Capitol Hill to face questions from lawmakers about the sudden increase.
The twist is the CEO is very familiar to one lawmaker. Mylan CEO Heather Bresch is the daughter of West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin, Bloomberg News reported.
The EpiPen’s recent spike to about $500 a dose for the life-saving allergy shot is the latest increase by the industry to spark outrage from lawmakers. Manchin’s colleague, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, wrote to Mylan asking for answers behind the price boost.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., wants the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether Mylan violated antitrust laws, Bloomberg said.
Rep. Grace Meng, D-N.Y., called for a House hearing on Tuesday on the issue as well.
So far Manchin has been mum about the issue, according to Bloomberg.
Manchin has been a major advocate for fighting opioid abuse, which has ravaged West Virginia. He has criticized the Food and Drug Administration for continuing to approve new opioid products, and objected to the confirmation of the agency’s new commissioner Robert Califf due to concerns about the agency’s response to the opioid crisis.
The price increase for EpiPens also is prompting outrage because a 2013 bipartisan law requires schools to stock the drug to prepare for any health emergencies.
