That doesn’t make sense other than wishful thinking from a $tanK toadie?

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

it doesn’t make sense for the chargers or the rams or the nfl to have the chargers move to los angeles. especially financially.
i’m thinking spanos stays and tries to get a stadium built in san diego. that’s my guess.

Gonna be tough for them to get a new stadium unless Spanos builds it himself, and that’s not gonna happen unless he sells the team.
The last try was for the city to get the money through a tax hike on the Hotels and they voted it down.
I wonder if Spanos would be agreeable to an upgrade on the MV stadium? I don’t think it’s a dump, the only problem is the flooding, but how often does it rain in So Cal?
January 5, 2017 at 6:35 pm #62439JackPMillerParticipantIf the NFL really wants expansion, move the Chargers to Mexico. They basically would own the country, like the Blue Jays own Canada for the MLB and the Raptors own Canada for the NBA.

Funny thing is, when I was there they have the Spanish channel on TV and the adopted team was the Rams…I watched several games in Spanish. Apparently they weren’t governed by the rules because I sure did watch’em.

yeah. actually that’s a good point.

it’s not a dump. it’s a really nice stadium i think. but then i think the coliseum is a really nice stadium. just upgrade it and it’d be just fine. it’s starting to rain a lot more, but really, i’m sure they could find a solution if it was really a problem.

I thought it was a nice stadium as well…had a new sound system and video boards from their last upgrade that Spanos still owes on.
The flooding really is a problem, but how much of the crying was Spanos lobbying for a new stadium?
I really liked that we were able to get out of the stadium in remarkably quick fashion which would not be the case if they built a stadium down town.

yeah i agree. they should stay in mission valley although i understand the lure of one in downtown. i do. but it doesn’t sound like it’s ever going to happen. so try and find an alternative.

Didn’t make sense to leave St. Louis but they did. Chargers moving to LA was a concession the NFL got from $tanK to make his new stadium available to Spanos. To the NFL the Chargers move to LA does make sense.

from the standpoint of the nfl it made perfect sense for them to move. it was about money. stan has more of it than almost any other owner and a team in la meant more money in all their pockets.
unfortunate but true.

Mexico loves the NFL. Money would be made for everyone, including the country of Mexico.

Then by that logic two teams in LA doesn’t hurt NFL revenue.

January 6, 2017 at 8:22 am #62471InvaderRamModeratorwell i guess it depends on what the market research says.
cuz certainly having all 32 teams move to la wouldn’t work. my hunch is moving 2 teams move to a city at virtually the same time might not make the most sense from a money standpoint. 2 teams competing for fans, ticket sales, merchandising, corporate sponsorship… i don’t know…
my guess. and it’s only a guess. is the nfl would prefer to have the chargers in san diego. and just one team in la for now.

January 6, 2017 at 8:30 am #62474InvaderRamModeratorand also i believe the nfl just needed one team in la for the new tv deal that’s supposed to come up.

Good point about the TV deal but the ratings are down for the NFL this season which marks LA’s return.
