I’m not advocating for a change. For myself, I still want to see how the Rams fare the rest of the season before I make up my mind about Fisher, but if he was to be fired, who would you hire to replace him?
Do you try to coax Chucky or Cowher out of retirement?
Here’s an article on up-in-coming head coaching prospects from Football Insiders.
link: http://www.footballinsiders.com/hot-head-coaching-candidates-for-next-year/
The names in that article include Mike Shula, Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia, Greg Olson and Teryl Austin.
Overall, that list looks pretty underwhelming. We have first hand experience with Josh McDaniels. in St. Louis he was unwilling or unable to adapt his overly complicated offense to the players he had. Well, unless he brings Brady and Gronk to LA then no thanks. Teryl Austin, architect of that Detroit Lions defense that gave up 28 points and nearly 400 yards to the Rams? I don’t think so.
Patricia and Olson? Maybe, but from the article I don’t see what Olson has accomplished that would make him a worthy NFL head coaching candidate beyond being an assistant for a long time.
Of course, there’s got to be qualified candidates out there that the article doesn’t mention. Who are they?
Anyway, this is an important consideration for those who wish to fire Fisher. Who do you replace him with?
October 24, 2016 at 7:14 am #55955JackPMillerParticipantI like Teryl Austin he is one of three guys I would consider, the other two are Darrell Bevell OC Seattle Seahawks, and Ken Norton Jr. DC Oakland Raiders. If you want a veteran HC, there is a rumor that Marvin Lewis and Mike Tomlin could be let go at the end of the season.

vStunned. I thought you were going to go with George Allen, or Ray Malavasi.

Norton’s defense is dead last in team defense…
Seattle’s offense is ranked 27,
No thanks….

Allen and Malavasi have been dead for years. Plus I doubt they even want to coach again.

Yeah, that was my thought as well.
Norton is running a defense that is Jack Del Rio’s style of defense, not his. I feel, it will be different if he gets here.
Bevell is an OC, and we have a whole lot more talent than what Seattle has, other than QB.October 24, 2016 at 10:26 am #55969bnwBlockedDV with Martz as OC.

vI agree. He runs a tight ship.

October 24, 2016 at 10:42 am #55972znModeratorI’m going to be very blunt here, and I don’t mean to offend anyone. It’s just my 2 cents.
Along with thinking that firing Fisher would be a mistake…
…I know this is just me and I won’t fight about it and campaign and so on, but I have found over the years that “which coach to hire” discussions among fans on the net are pretty much useless. No one knows enough to offer anything more than superficial and/or quirky ideas. The ones who insist they know more are invariably no better than people who just wing it for the sake of conversation.
In fact if we all put up our old “who to hire” posts from years past again, it would make for good comic relief. With no exceptions. The same goes with the talking heads and sports writers we get our info on this from. I doubt there is a single journalist out there with a credible “hit” record when it comes to guessing who would make a consistent winning head coach.
Don’t take that personally. It’s just that no one is in a position to know enough, and even those who are in the league and in a position to know enough get it wrong far more often than not.

Well of course they are useless. None of us has any say over who the next coach will be if there even is to be a new coach. It’s just interesting to hear what people’s thoughts on the matter are – in the same vein as “who do you think the Rams should draft with their first pick?” or “which film should win the Oscar for best picture?”

well discussions about draft picks are based on real knowledge…coach hire discussion are nowhere near as informed as those are

.Who would you like to see, if Fisher is not resigned? Meaning Fisher and his staff will be looking for a new job elsewhere at the end of the 2016 season.

First of all to answer that question, I can only say IF they are all looking. I am not as certain as you are that that will happen.
So, IF…how do I answer? The truth?
Well….I have no more idea than anyone else does.
The difference is, I am not going to chase names and act like I have an idea.
As I said, you can listen to the press and to posters talk about a draft. There’s some real knowledge there. On coaching hires? The press and posters alike basically have no idea. And over the years, the ones who sounded the most definitive and confident in their talk about that have been just as wrong as everyone else.
I promise though not to rain on any parades and I will repeat this particular mantra only when
asked..

unless they can come up with some kind of coaching combine. which would be too boring to watch anyway.
