I saw that he did have a couple of good practices the last couple of times out, but the vibe is all wrong with him somehow.

As it looks right now, these guys are probably all on the final 53:

    Bailey, Austin, Britt, Quick.

Who knows after that. Pettis and/or Givens? But they aren’t going to keep just 4. So maybe they keep both of those 2, or an Unknown closes on one of them. Or they keep 5 and one makes it the other doesn’t, or an Unknown closes in on both of them to become the 5th.

But Givens is not filling me with that sense of inevitability one associates with greatness….so to speak… sm

I’m higher on Givens but have heard a couple of negative things early on and then much better later. We certainly can see what he’s capable of – I still remember the heart he showed in 2nd Niner game of 2012 – but really wonder after last year. I don’t thing the vibe is all negative with the guy. I hope he stays and contributes mightily this year.

Maybe Givens feels he’s been pushed out of the starting line up with the Rams going run oriented . Just a thought but most the reports I’ve read have him working with the 2’s and 3’s not getting a lot of 1st team reps.

If Britt and Quick really are stepping up like they look to be doing and we have Bailey and Austin also only looking to improve on their production, probably significantly, then slots 5 and 6 aren’t going to be prime slots.

Frankly, I think Quick has ripped the starting job out of Givens’ hands and may have put him off the team since Givens doesn’t play special teams. I think those last two slots go to special teamers. Or maybe Pettis and a special teamer. I dunno.

Preseason will count more for this WR corps than other units, I think…

    I agree with all that.

Oh and here’s an especially hard view of Givens fwiw.

He was never a route runner. Last year was his first year he tried to add to his route tree to be a more well rounded player and it failed.

He is a one trick receiver, send him out and use his speed. There have been plenty of receivers that have made careers out of being fly receivers, but you can usually outdraft them.

If Quick, Bailey, and Britt translate their skills to the regular season you will see more production from him in packages because they will draw the coverages and he will be able to get into more one on one situations.

    He is what he is.
