Well here are some things from 2016 that are absolutely unique to 2016 and therefore gone in 2017.
1. They’re not moving. Any writer or analyst who actually talked about this (including Farr, who has been through a move) stated unequivocally that this was a big drain and had an effect. So I expect them to be sharper, more focused, and more stable overall.
2. They have a starting qb from day one. Not a #2 caliber guy (albeit one with some pluck plus a long ball), and not an especially green rookie.
3. Gurley has gone out of his way to indicate he is more focused this offseason. I am hoping that pays off.
4. An extension of #1. They don’t believe, as a team, that this season is a kind of “pass” where management will think you’re fine, considering you have moved, if you;re just competitive. (Which was something that came up last year.) No, it’s “yes this counts” from the get-go.
I think all those things will contribute to better all around team performance.
Plus they added Philips, McVay, Kromer, Olson, Watkins, Woods, Whitworth, Balmer, and Kupp.
They’re just going to be both a better team AND less mired in a less than ideal situation.
