This team is not good enough. It just isn’t.

Its limits were clearly visible in the pre-season. The OL never solidified. The defense couldn’t stop the run. The defense never showed it could get off the field. Yadda, yadda, yadda …

It is said that we have superb talent. I am not convinced of that.

It is also said that this coaching staff has done little to prepare the team for the season. With that I heartily concur.

In 5 games, I see no evidence that Williams is making any difference. The shoddy, porous nature of our defensive front–with this talent–is unforgiveable.

As for Schotty … I’m finished with him. He’s a joke.

Consider the “touches” he gave Tavon in the 1st half. Including several downs at freaking TAILBACK! What the hell?

In his 3rd year, he has yet to form a coherent offense that can create space to exploit. Our short throws and screens are pathetic in comparison with those of others.

This coaching staff may or may not survive the year. I suppose that they may find ways to steal enough wins to get near the .500 mark after any hope of meaningful late season games has evaporated. We’ll be just good enough to miss out on the best draft picks.

I see no evidence of a meaningful trend toward competitiveness in Fisher’s regime. They played a few games over their heads in year 1. Since then? Expletive.

Guys, I value this community. I’ll be checking in and remaining in touch with you folks as friends.

But I refuse to follow this team closely this year until it proves it can play football I can respect. It hasn’t done that since the first few Mike Martz years. I have zero expectations that anything but futility will arise from this team this year.

If I’m wrong, I’ll be happy. But there is no evident reason to expect anything else.

By virtue of the absurd ...

I see it prettymuch the way zack sees it, RFL.
I was very impressed with the defense in the first half.
I got no worries at all about the defense (though, if Chris Long cant play,
I dunno how that will effect things)

The offense? I think Hill was fine when he had time to throw.
I think the RBs were fine. I think Cook and Quick were good.

My only 2 questions are 1) whether there are weak links on the OLine
or whether it just needs time to ‘gel.’
And 2) whether BS has lost faith in Tavon. BS doesnt seem
to want to send him downfield to catch passes. Maybe its cause
he drops them in practice, I dunno.

And of course there were plenty of dum penalties,
but I dunno what to think of that. That aint
    sposed to happen at home.

Next year, they will draft OLinemen and
    a QB, I would think.

I think they weren’t ready to play. Maybe they will be ready next game?

Well…respectfully, I see it all differently. Or almost all of it. We’re just in different places with all of this.

I still believe we can do a complete 180 turn around….but I am also perplexed at the lack of readiness of this team.

The defense looked ready to me.

Well, let’s just hope we don’t get overzealous and do a 360…

    They could do a 540.

That would be fine with me.

i don’t think they’re as bad as this sunday game showed.

but the inconsistency of this team is worrisome. maybe it’s just age.

biggest problem for this team is finding a qb.

i think the oline will be fine. the wrs will be fine. the running backs will be fine.

on defense. they’ll be fine. defensive line. linebackers. solid. the secondary should be fine. these coaches have a proven track record there, and they’ve looked solid so far. maybe a middle linebacker for the future.

so. my issues are with consistency. finding a quarterback.

if they can nail those two things, they’ll be fine because they do have a talented group there.

If there isn’t going to be a repeat of this week the offense will have to move the ball and keep the defense off the field. Turnovers, three and outs or penalty killing drives will put a difficult burden on the defense in a warm environment.

    They’ll wear down.

    It won’t be pretty.

In order for this run offense to be effective the line will have to play much better and the Rams will have to kill some teams with passes. Otherwise it’s going to be a close to the line, blitzing defense week in and week out. Until the Rams beat it they’ll continue to see it.

I know I’m stating the obvious but..it’s all I got.

Ya know I thought and thought about it , how to describe the Rams play and I finally got it
The Rams looked like a NFL team trying to play without a coach

I was surprised. I wasn’t able to see much of pre-season but I wasn’t expecting such a poor showing. The penalties continue to bother me. I don’t see any improvement and that is one area I hoped Fisher and staff would clean up. I think the defense will be fine but I dunno about Schottenheimer and the offense. I know he’s in a really tough spot but nothing seems to be working. We’ll see.

Well the Chris Long penalty should have been on Minny.
And the Quinn penalty seemed ticky-tacky.
And the Givens and Quick penalties were about
WR’s playing with aggression which is somethin
weve ‘wanted’ to see out of those two.

So, I dunno. I guess Fisher teams are known
for penalties and Fisher teams often have
trouble early in the year, but i really thought
MOST of the team played fine except for having
    an injured-second-string-QB starting
and an OLine that just got beat.

how can anyone be surprised based on the events of the game?

    1) your 2nd string QB and defense kept the game close for 2 quarters… the pick before half wasn’t Shotty’s fault, very dumb pass by a journeyman back up… it happens.
    2) your 3rd string QB came in and played like a 3rd stringer.
    3) what do you want Schotty to call with a 3rd string QB trying to play catch up with the youngest team in the league? Is it Shotty’s fault that his 3rd string QB threw a pick 6 when they drove downfield to close the gap?

It’s gonna be like last season….a QB with not much starting experience will gain experience and gel mid to late season with some competitive games.

I was surprised. I wanted them to more or less pick up where they left off last year. They had improved the penalties, especially on especial eteams. They figured out how to run the ball. They got tough against the run. I thought there would even be improvements over last year’s late-season play, with Williams’ running the defense and a big addition to the Oline.

But I’ve gotten over my initial doomsday reaction. Let’s see what happens with a week to patch up areas that are at least easy to target.

Zeuerlein doesn’t miss, Hill doesn’t throw that untimely, incredibly crucial pick, maybe things go different.

Yes, I was surprised when I watched it, especially with the weakness of the offensive line.

I am disappointed in the team’s lack of preparation. And, I overestimated how well the team could play without Bradford.

I do think it’s going to be a long slog of a season to 7-9, now. That won’t be bad enough to draft an elite QB. And, it won’t be good enough for fans to really enjoy this team, especially without having Bradford at QB.

I was surprised. I thought this team and coaching staff had it’s shit together. I was surprised that they played so badly especially in the season home opener. It’s like everyone thought the season started next Sunday and they were all confused when the Vikings showed up at Noon with a football.

This is a very good team and coaching staff on paper. Lots of shiny new first round picks on offense and defense, a coaching staff with a good-to-great reputation. They need to show it on the field.
