Rams lead @NFL in total defense for first time since 1978, allowing 285.6 total YPG in 2020. No other team allows fewer than 300.

If RB Xavier Jones is called upon Sunday considering Darrell Henderson’s injury, center Austin Blythe says the team is comfortable with him. “I knew since camp he was going to make the team. He flashed a lot in a team setting.”

Guys I literally have pages and pages of notes on John Wolford. I’m like the random physicist who specializes in a rare event and gets the call in the science fiction movie. This is my moment.

    #Rams-#Seahawks

    SEA played single-high coverages…

    Cover 3 — 54.9%
    Cover 1 — 25.5%

Limited explosive plays & boot concepts. Disciplined in zone coverage (depth, eyes).

Didn’t allow Goff to throw on rhythm consistently + he struggled with ball location/accuracy.

Rams’ QB Jared Goff underwent surgery today on his broken right thumb in LA and is unlikely to play Sunday vs. Arizona, sources tell ESPN. If he can’t play Sunday, Goff could return for the playoffs if Rams advance there.

John Wolford is Goff’s backup and now in line to start.

Wolford would be first QB to make his first start for a team in Week 17 with a playoff berth on the line since Kyle Orton for the 2013 Cowboys

The surgery that Rams QB Jared Goff had earlier today in Los Angeles gives him the best chance of an optimum result without a delay in return. The hope is he can be back for the postseason.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
I can confirm the multiple reports that Jared Goff will have surgery on his right thumb. It’s likely – though not totally certain – that he’s out on Sunday, source said. And the hope is, should John Wolford start and help get Rams to the playoffs, that he can return for a push.

Reminder, the Rams also are hoping to have LT Andrew Whitworth back in the case that they enter the postseason. That alignment, plus organization’s faith in Wolford’s prep, may have made decision for immediate surgery an easier one.

Trust me. You’re going to like John Wolford.

from Could ‘Wakeyleaks’ scandal lead to lawsuit, criminal charges?
Wake Forest could pursue a lawsuit against former radio analyst Tommy Elrod as well as any schools that may have received game plan information from him. There’s also a remote possibility of criminal charges.

    https://www.si.com/college/2016/12/14/wake-forest-football-leak-illegal-louisville

As reported Tuesday, the 41-year-old Elrod has been fired after serving as the Demon Deacons’ radio announcer on the IMG Radio Network since 2014. His firing stems from being accused of sharing, or attempting to share, various game preparation materials with other teams over the last two years. Wake Forest reached this conclusion after a comprehensive review of emails, texts and phone records.

Speaking of Jets game, I ran into a couple Rams fans at the bank of all places yesterday. As I was leaving I hear the lady that works there talking to a customer as I walk by and she says “oh there’s another one” as she points at me, I’m like huh? She says Ram fan….I was wearing my Rams hoodie, dead give away I perked up, heck yeah! So we all start talking Rams football of course and she mentions that the guy she is talking to works for them…he actually gets to be on the field for all the home games, he basically said he is in charge of taking care of the refs … found out after I talked a buncha crap about them (Buffalo and Jets calls) haha…

Anyways, he said it was exactly what many of us talked about in the loss to the Jets…Zero energy!!! He said the week before vs Patriots was night and day difference…said they were so hyped up and riled up all night for the Patriots game and then the Jets came to town and said they were yawning and very very quiet. He said he could tell right away after kick off they were in for a fight but never brought the energy they needed……I just hope McVay and this team never forget the lesson the Jets gave them that Sunda

Rams LB Micah Kiser has been activated from injured reserve, the team announced, along with LT Andrew Whitworth returning to practice.

So wild that Rams LT Andrew Whitworth left the field on a cart on Nov. 15 with a torn MCL and PCL, and a little more than six weeks later the 39-year-old has been designated to return from injured reserve.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
McVay said this week that a Whitworth return could happen as early as next week, if the Rams are still eligible.

Brandon Staley says Aaron Donald contributes to everyone’s success, but that OLB Leonard Floyd’s performance on the outside stands alone. “He’s having as complete of a season as ANYONE in the NFL,” Staley says. “And the best is yet to come.”

Sean McVay says he doesn’t anticipate any additions to the Covid/reserve list via the Rams’ contact-tracing process at the moment.

McVay adds that the Rams have concluded their contact trace process

Sean McVay said Cam Akers worked out today, didn’t practice. However, “he’s feeling good. I’m certainly not ready to rule my man Cam out” for Sunday’s game vs. Cardinals.

John Wolford’s start vs. Cardinals will be an NFL first in the Super Bowl era

According to ESPN Stats and Info, Wolford will become the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era, which dates back to 1966, to make his first career start in the final game of a season with his team still having a chance to make the playoffs.
