Trade official, source tells ESPN:Bears get: Khalil Mack, a 2020 second-round round pick and a conditional 2020 fifth-round pick.
Raiders get: 2019 first-round pick, 2020 first-round pick, 2020 third-round pick, 2019 sixth-round pick.
So Bears get back second-round pick, too

No logical reason for #raiders to make this “football” move. No salary cap reason either. This has to be a cash issue. You do not let guys like @52Mack_ out the door. Their loss is #bears gain. 🤷🏾♂️—
Vincent Bonsignore@VinnyBonsignore
People are lazily making it seem like #Raiders decided they’re better off w/o Mack. They decided they’re better off w/o Mack at the number his demands rose to & what meeting it would have meant to ability to build a balanced roster. My sense: Mack/camp were always going to wait out Donald’s situation before getting serious. It was the benefit of Mack making $14m to Donald’s $7m this year. Better position to be patient
Aaron Donald deal changed dynamics. Raiders could have met/topped, but ultimately decided adding 2 1sts/spreading Mack money around was wiser approach
#Raiders decided they’re better off moving Mack at that # for draft capital & better financial flexibility to construct that balanced roster. No guarantees picks pan out. But also no guarantee you can build a consistent contender while devoting so much cap space to a LB
they’ve always been willing to make him highest paid defensive player of all time. But that threshold moved to another level with Donald deal. Topping that new number wasn’t prudent in #Raiders eyes compared to the draft capitol and $$ flexibility gained in trade
#Rams are in a different place roster wise. It’s just a better roster across the board with more cost-certainty moving forward.
It helps #Bears had the cap space to meet Mack’s demands and the willingness to give up two first round picks. That situation may never have presented itself to #Raiders again

“Two first rounders is too much to pay for Mack”Ok… would you trade the last two first rounders your team picked for him?
99% of you would say yes

Going forward, each time I hear Gruden say he wants players who have great character and talent, who don’t miss games, who are bad-asses on the field but gentlemen off it, who are great teammates and leaders, I’m going to post a picture of Khalil Mack.=

When Matt Nagy gathered his team Friday for an important announcement, one player shouted from the back: “Have we all just been traded for Khalil Mack?”Prince Amukamara: “It was awesome. I was cracking up.”

Trying to envision what my life would be like right now if the Rams had traded Aaron Donald for two first-round picks. It’s not a pleasant thought.==

Who woke up happier than Sean McVay? Aaron Donald is back for the Rams, and Khalil Mack is gone from Raiders.—

It’s hard to reach an agreement when refusing to negotiate with Khalil Mack’s agent.Joey Bosa has the same agents as Aaron Donald. He’s eligible for a new contract after the 2018 regular season ends. If the Chargers wait until 2020 when he’s in his option year, more than $25M per year & over $100M in guarantees wouldn’t be a surprise.

One observation that stood out to me after Aaron Donald signed yesterday: Sean McVay, a giddy kid earlier in the week after he learned Donald’s deal was close, returned to football-only mode. He was a freight train in motion, geared toward Oakland.Aaron Donald took a brief pause Friday when talking to reporters about what his six-year, $135 million contract extension meant to him and his family. Donald said when he started in the NFL he never imagined he’d one day become the highest-paid defensive player in league history. “My ultimate goal was always to make it to this point and be able to retire my mom and dad,” Donald said. “So, to have an opportunity to call them and tell them that they don’t have to work another day in their life, that was the best feeling ever to me. So, thinking about it I get a little emotional. My mom and dad are just happy. Told them they can just relax, it’s on me now. So, like I said, God is good and I’m just blessed

I don’t understand the Mack trade, don’t you want your 1st rounders to turn out this good, so what happens if they get another 1st rounder who is this good do they not pay him either?—

A second source has confirmed to me that Raiders did not have cash flow to do me contract that’s why deal was madeSeptember 1, 2018 at 4:24 pm #90271InvaderRamModeratorA second source has confirmed to me that Raiders did not have cash flow to do me contract that’s why deal was made
that makes the most sense to me. i don’t know why else you trade a player like khalil.
September 1, 2018 at 5:48 pm #90275wvParticipantInteresting.
Its also interesting how so many punditz can tell the future. Who knows how this trade ends up looking in three years.
Maybe it ends up being good for both teams. Maybe the Raiders win a ring without Mack and maybe Mack still plays at a high level with the Bears. Etc and so forth.
I’ve never thought Mack was in the same league as Donald, btw. There’s Donald, and then there’s the next tier. And Suh is in the next tier.
Carnage. Bring me my carnage.

The Rams drafted 11 players this year, and 10 are still around. Travin Howard is the only one who got cut (with an injury designation).Rams decide to keep RB Justin Davis along with John Kelly. Only 8 OL to start season. Joseph-Day, I. Johnson make the cut and Sam Shields’ comeback continues.
It’s still eye-opening to me that the Rams (as of now) will start the season with 3 backup offensive linemen, and all of them are rookies. That’s trust, I suppose.
Okoronkwo technically is on the Reserve/PUP list, which means the 6-week absence that previously was reported. He is not on the actual “Injured Reserve” list, which would put him out of the full season.

#Rams have been feeling really good about their draft all camp – and Les Snead/staff have been very complimentary of synergy between that side of the office and Sean McVay and his staff. Nine rookies made opening roster and Okoronkwo (IR) will play eventuallyAaron Kromer and McVay and Wade Phillips (and others) do a great job articulating and describing the kind of players they want at their positions and on their side of ball. It’s not just talk. It’s a real component
Best way to digest Donald deal: It’s J.J. Watt or Von Miller’s contract + cap inflation. What it’s not: Ndamukong Suh’s #Dolphins’ contract + cap inflation, which would have been much higher. You can also see #Rams respcting AD playing ’17 at $1.8m rather than holding out
And here is what #Rams are (rightfully) confident about: The infrascture in place: QB/coach/RB/WR’s/surrounding defense etc…etc is better in L.A, than what Houston or Denver had in place upon signing Watt and Miller (keep in mind Manning was retiring)

#49ers now officially confirming that RB Jerick McKinnon suffered a torn ACL. Kyle Shanahan said more roster moves would be coming this weekend, one involving McKinnon now a certainty.September 1, 2018 at 8:38 pm #90286znModeratorJoel Corry@corryjoel
It would have been interesting to see if Odell Beckham, Jr. would have gotten a better deal than he actually signed by waiting a few days longer since Aaron Donald & Khalil Mack subsequently increased the top of the non-QB market significantly.—
Jason Cole@JasonCole62
How hard is it to pick QBs? Jon Gruden LOVED Russell Wilson coming out of college. He was bang on right. He also thought Connor Cook should have been a first round pick. Not so much.—
Assuming that the 2019 cap is $190M (the OverTheCap estimate), these are the percentages for edge rushers and Aaron Donald relative to cap signing at the time (Donald and Mack averages of new money kick in at 2019, so that's what's being used) pic.twitter.com/yHvyrYm4Pu

Bears see Mack as a generational type of player, that can take over games on the other side of the field. So they felt it was worth the risk.

if i’m the rams, i would. i’m gonna gamble that those first round picks are very low first round picks.

I don’t know how real that was though. Rams couldn’t afford the 14 M cap hit for Mack in 2018. Not without some serious heavy roster surgery.

They move $7M to future years, make $6M part of a signing bonus, pay him $1M this year. They are $6.8M under the cap now. They could squeeze him in. Barron could be structured. Brockers, too.
.
I don’t know if it would be wise. But they could do it without doing anything extra ordinary.- This reply was modified 6 years, 2 months ago by Agamemnon.

September 2, 2018 at 12:18 pm #90316ZooeyModeratorI think it’s been clear since January that Mack was determined to have the highest contract for a defensive player ever. That came out of his camp early, and there was a suggestion he wanted Donald to sign first so that he could insure he got a dollar more.
So if he held to that, the Rams would be looking at paying Donald a big salary for all he has done for the Rams, and then 10 seconds later paying somebody else even more who hadn’t played a down for the team. Especially when Donald’s deal was somewhat nice to the Rams, I just don’t think that would be appreciated by anybody. Even if the Rams COULD afford it.

Just to add a footnote…
This is Aaron Donald’s defense. It just is.
Bringing in Khalil Mack as a higher paid player would have been insulting.
