Just passing through but I wouldn’t say the rams had the best OL in football. I’m sure there’s some metric that says that… but.
— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) July 18, 2019
One of? Top 3 surely. They were the #1 pass blocking OL in league I know that.
— Dan Orlovsky (@danorlovsky7) July 18, 2019
This isn’t an argument. I respect Dans football knowledge greatly. Knows more than me top to bottom. But I’m far from sold on that assertion and we prepped for 22 lines last year.
— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) July 18, 2019
My top 5 OL last year no particular order (w context)… PHI, DAL, NO, NE, PITT… if I need a group (healthy) in a 2 min situation or a big third and long (controlled for QB play/timing) gimme Philly. Personnel is ridiculous. Homer stuff I know.
— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) July 18, 2019
Why is that bad? No one said they sucked. Thought they were solid and the scheme helped them a lot. Why are they presumably in your top 5?
— Chris Long (@JOEL9ONE) July 18, 2019
You a defensive end looking at the ball and suddenly Robert Woods is blindside blocking you with the QB going in the opposite direction. Being pulled in all different directions.
— Cian (@Cianaf) July 18, 2019
It’s one of the more interesting units in the league because Goff didn’t face much interior pressure relative to other QBs so if the replacements at C/LG aren’t up to scratch it could have a big knock-on effect.

The @RamsNFL are the only team in the NFL to use shotgun on less than 50% of their offensive snaps since 2017, and @JaredGoff16 has been one of the best QB from under center over that span.#LARams pic.twitter.com/xyUeoQlsnQ

funny that one of the biggest questions surrounding goff was his ability to play under center.

To be honest? I don’t think anyone questioned his ability to do that. I think the only point made was that mastering the art of dropping back while making post-snap reads was just one more thing he had to learn to do. I don’t think any qb has ever failed because they could not master playing under center. The issue is more, how much does he have to learn and therefore how much more does he have to do to play the pro game and THEREFORE how much longer does it take for college qbs who haven’t done it. It’s a time factor, not a “can he or can’t he” factor.

I seem to recall reading on several occasions that QBs who don’t go under center at college struggle with that at the NFL level and some just never get comfortable with it. I also seem to recall a few articles stating it specifically in reference to Goff.
Perhaps my memory is faulty.

Or mine. Maybe some did say that.
But I will say this. Whether some guys said it or not, taking snaps in itself really is not an issue. It’s taking the snap, dropping back in rhythm, and reading the defense post-snap—all combined in one fluid well-timed sequence. Then there’s play action. With PA, it;s all of the above plus turning your back on the defense for the fake handoff then turning back again and quickly re-acquiring the defense in your eyes and mind so you’re sure what they’re doing.

yeah. and it’s not exactly like he’s got all pro receivers surrounding him. although they are quite good.
the guy just gets better and better every year and only just scratching the surface right now.
it should be fun tracking his progress.

The TV ratings crisis of 2016-17 caused the NFL to stop finding reasons to suspend players; in 2019, Tom Brady wouldn’t have been suspended for air in footballs, and the NFL would have listened to an investigator’s recommendation that Ezekiel Elliott shouldn’t be suspended.July 20, 2019 at 1:14 pm #103088znModeratorMarshall Faulk moves toward becoming an NFLPA-certified agent https://t.co/bl8tSa1NTA

NFL avg. was 40%
LA's high usage of 11 personnel and effective play-action passing was such a game-changer.
