Trump noted that the country faces an urgent infrastructure problem, which he promised during the campaign that he would address with a $1 trillion infrastructure spending plan. Although the administration has not yet outlined whether infrastructure will be part of Trump’s budget proposal, the president spoke about it at length before a gathering of governors at the White House on Monday.

I work for a local government that develops big urban transit investments. Our lobbyist in DC told us that Trump is considering eliminating the Federal Transit Administration, which is the source of half the funding for construction of urban transit systems, not to mention repair and maintenance of existing transit systems.

I don’t know how accurate this information is, but if it happens, it would be devastating for public transportation across the country.

His infrastructure program sounds like classic propertarian (right-libertarian) udopia stuff.

A trillion dollars handed to private contractors and/or money guys, and much of the infrastructure remaining in private hands after it’s all said and done. If it goes according to the Ayn Rand plan, we’re talking major tolls all across the country. As in, a big fat scam.

We desperately need upgrades. But it needs to be public, all public. From what I’ve read, that’s not the GOP/Trump plan at all.
