July 27, 2016 at 1:17 pm #49439waterfieldParticipantI don’t think he’s toast Billy. Had it been done in secret that would be one thing but to do it in a public proclamation only supports his uncontrollable mouth. Unfortunately, there are so many people who actually think that is so brazen its cool. Its the “I don’t give a shit about what anyone thinks” that people in this country want and admire and believe we need this kind of attitude in the White House. I know these people. There is a HUGE anti-intellectualism that is about to take over this country. People want tough talking, aggressive, individualism and don’t want to listen to elite intellectuals who describe stuff in complicated sentences. We want simplicity like Fox news presents us.
What is the most popular TV? Sunday professional football especially the SB. What are the most frequent commercials? Tough trucks with extremely low voiced narration. Next-reality TV where there is an in your face edginess. We are a country of cowboys. Fuck the intellectuals.
Add to all this is the non educated white males that simply do not like smart, tough (ironic isn’t it), aggressive, individual, successful women and you have a witches brew.

July 27, 2016 at 1:21 pm #49441Billy_TParticipantW,
I know his supporters will dismiss this. They drank the koolaid. But this revelation guarantees that fence-sitters won’t be going with Trump. It’s a bridge too far for most Americans to actively call for foreign espionage against American candidates. I can’t see how he possibly gets away with this.
July 27, 2016 at 1:54 pm #49442PA RamParticipantIt was stupid. And it was certainly reckless. But Trump just doesn’t feel that anything he says will matter. In some ways he has proven himself right on that. He leads Clinton right now.

July 27, 2016 at 2:19 pm #49443znModeratorDonald Trump asks Russia to hack Hillary Clinton’s e-mails
DORAL, Fla. — Donald Trump said Wednesday that he hoped Russia had hacked Hillary Clinton’s email, essentially encouraging an adversarial foreign power’s cyberspying on a secretary of state’s correspondence.
“Russia, if you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” Trump said, staring directly into the cameras. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
Trump’s call was an extraordinary moment at a time when Russia is being accused of meddling in the U.S. presidential election. His comments came amid questions about the hacking of the Democratic National Committee’s computer servers, which researchers have concluded was likely the work of two Russian intelligence agencies.
Later in the news conference, when asked if he was really urging a foreign nation to hack into the private email server of Clinton, or at least meddle in the nation’s elections, he dismissed the question.
“That’s up to the president,” Trump said, before finally saying “be quiet” to the female questioner. “Let the president talk to them.”
The Clinton campaign immediately accused Trump of both encouraging Russian espionage against the United States and meddling in domestic politics.
“This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent.”
Mike Pence appears to differ from Trump on Russia, e-mails
Gingrich says Trump was joking about Clinton’s e-mails“This has to be the first time that a major presidential candidate has actively encouraged a foreign power to conduct espionage against his political opponent,” said Jake Sullivan, Clinton’s chief foreign policy adviser. “This has gone from being a matter of curiosity, and a matter of politics, to being a national security issue.”
Trump has largely dismissed assertions that Russia was behind the Democratic committee breach as conspiracy theories — a view he reiterated again when he said the hack “is probably not Russia.”
But at the news conference at one of his Florida golf courses, as the third day of the Democratic National Convention was set to begin in Philadelphia, the Republican presidential nominee refused to unequivocally call on Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, to not meddle in the U.S. presidential election.
“I’m not going to tell Putin what to do,” Trump said. “Why should I tell Putin what to do?”
He added that if Russia, or any foreign government, is, in fact, behind the hack, it simply shows just how little respect other nations have for the current administration.
“President Trump would be so much better for U.S.-Russian relations” than a President Clinton, Trump said. “I don’t think he respects Clinton.”
As an avalanche of criticism poured over Trump, some Republicans defended his comments as a worthy attack on Clinton. Former Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Michigan, a former chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, said Trump was right to keep hammering Clinton on the subject of her private emails.
Hoekstra said he was untroubled by Trump’s goading on of a foreign power.
“Trump is bringing up a fairly valid point: Hillary Clinton with her personal email at the State Department, has put the Russians in a very enviable position,” Hoekstra said. “Most likely the Russians already have all that info on Hillary.”
Trump’s running mate, Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana, said any hacking by Russia should not be tolerated, but he also faulted the Democrats.
“The FBI will get to the bottom of who is behind the hacking. If it is Russia and they are interfering in our elections, I can assure you both parties and the United States government will ensure there are serious consequences,” he said, adding, “That said, the Democrats singularly focusing on who might be behind it and not addressing the basic fact that they’ve been exposed as a party who not only rigs the government, but rigs elections while literally accepting cash for federal appointments is outrageous.

My experience is that those that have families with children and grandchildren and who are democrats appear to be far more intense and fearful about Trump than others. You are an example. From reading your posts on this subject you appear to have little interest in the guy and have placed yourself in the “I dunno” category believing there really isn’t that much difference. W,
I find your comments to be extremely offensive. Having children has absolutely NOTHING to do with a person’s ability to care about other human beings, the planet or the future. I don’t take a back seat to ANYONE in that regard, Waterfield, and it’s been my experience that there is NO difference, whatsoever, in human compassion levels, between parents and non-parents.
Beyond that, I’m not a Democrat. Second, I despise Trump and think he’s a fascist pig. I find him to be absolutely contemptible in every way. Third, I’m not in the “I dunno” category. I’ve said here and elsewhere I don’t want him to win. But I also don’t want Clinton to win. I can’t stand either one of them, or the Dems, or the Republicans. Both parties make me ill.
Yes, I see the Dems as the lesser of two evils. And, yes, if someone holds a gun to my head, and forced me to vote for one or the other, I’d vote for Clinton. But that isn’t the case, so I’m going to vote for Jill Stein.
Beyond that, you need to apologize and stop with the truly offensive garbage about parents being more concerned for the welfare of future generations. You’re wrong about that. You’re just wrong.

For the record I know leftists without children and their views on this are about as all over the map as everyone elses.
If you make it individually about posters, you go against the spirit of what we;re trying to do. Wouldn’t it have been more effective just to argue that for you opposing Trump matters a great deal? And then say why?
I didn’t say this to debate it btw. Don’t make it about posters and your own personal views of their psyches. It’s outside the lines.

If having a loud mouth is the sort of presidential quality you’re looking for–enjoy. Vote for it. The man isn’t even intellectually curious on any issue that doesn’t make him richer. Waterfield,
Tell me–how do you SELL Hillary?
How?
How do you sell her to a truck driver who has been listening to Rush Limbaugh most of the day, or to a blue collar guy worried about horrible trade deals who doesn’t trust her on the TPP when she says that she’ll not support it “as is” and which Trump jumps on and rightly says that she can change a comma and suddenly support it? When her buddy Terry Macauliffe says she will pass it when elected? When she picks a VP supporter of it? How do you convince someone she is sincere?
How do you blast Trump for encouraging hackers when the answer you get is that she exposed classified emails? What argument do you use?
How do you sell someone who had to be “pushed” to the left?
How do you sell the ultimate insider in an anti-establishment year?
How do you erase all the negative stories that have been pounded into people’s heads whether true or not?
How do you speak about the corruption at Trump University when the Clinton Foundation has its own problems?
This election should have been a slam dunk.
She may still win it because…well…Trump.
But it did not have to be this way. It didn’t have to be this hard. The establishment insisted that it was HER turn. The Clinton “cultists” who bow at the feet of all things Clinton and who missed out with Obama shocking them were determined not to lose again. No matter what. And even then, Bernie gave them headaches. The political atmosphere was screaming that she was the wrong candidate–especially THIS year. But that was ignored because come hell or high water this party was going to push her through. She was going to get HER turn.
And they DID it!!!! She won!!!!
But the primary is over. What good is it if she can’t win the general election? That is the goal–right? Because it feels more like Hillary was the goal.
So what now? It isn’t just Democrats now. It’s independents–you know–the one the party is trashing for ruining Hillary’s coronation. It’s some Republicans(and how many of those can she really get?). And yes–it IS Democrats too–ones who may even reluctantly push the button for her but who have to be motivated to show for that.
How do we sell her?
What will get those votes? And when we’re selling her do we really believe it? Because if you don’t believe it the person you’re selling it to won’t believe it.
On a personal note–I keep coming back to going to bed election night and feeling as though I helped Trump win if I DON’T vote for her. And yes–living in Pennsylvania that’s a big deal.
If I lived in California I’d vote Jill Stein and sleep like a baby.
So this sucks. But yes–I’ll again vote the lesser of two evils–and I’m not even sure how much less. I’m just guessing.
But I won’t sell her. I can’t. When someone scribbles something about her on a newspaper at work about how everyone voting for her is an idiot and so on, I can’t argue with a guy over why HE needs to consider her over Trump. That’s a hard sell.
SHE has to figure it out. SHE has to make people believe–or, more likely she’ll just have to scare the hell out of them with Trump.
They should have picked a better candidate. If not Bernie–fine. But not her. It’s very risky this year. And before you get into qualifications vs. Trump and so on–remember–most people don’t read political biographies or political articles or political books. They see memes on Facebook, they catch some CNN or Fox News or hear talk radio during the day–and that’s about all the effort you’ll get.
The “professional class” that is the DNC will not decide the election. It will be the “blue collar” class. She has work to do.
But I will end on an optimistic note for you.
I think she will somehow pull this off. I don’t have any reason to think that other than Trump has no shot at the minority vote, and women will go big for her. Will white males be enough for Trump? That’s the question.
Stay tuned.

July 28, 2016 at 1:30 am #49511znModeratorme? i’m voting for president camacho.
July 28, 2016 at 6:38 am #49515DakParticipantTrump’s Mussolini impersonation at his acceptance speech pretty much clinched it for me. I am holding my nose and voting for her. Again, it’s bad vs. horrible. This time, horrible is scarier than ever. His news conference yesterday just gives you a glimpse into the insanity that would be a Trump presidency. I mean, what a mess. I understand people wanting a candidate who isn’t beholden to the political elite. But, this guy? You trust this guy? His track record screams, “I care about me, and only me!” Then again, that type of “survival of the fittest” persona is what speaks to many Republicans. Hell, President The Donald I could tear down every positive government program ever, and he’d be cheered by his supporters. I wouldn’t put anything past him. Clinton is self-serving, too, but at least she has some policy plans that could help.
Sad. We could be talking about real issues that affect real people. Instead, we’re talking about whether to elect a Tire Fire over a Career Politician.

July 28, 2016 at 7:00 am #49520wvParticipantI disagree. A parent or grandparent does have skin in the game. For decades you make sacrifices and plans for your childrens benefit that go far beyond whatever a non-parent ever conceives.
————–
Well there are plenty of ‘parents’ who abuse and neglect their ‘skin in the game’.
And conversely there are plenty of non-parents who ‘love their neighbors’ and commit
there lives to doing social work and caring for other life forms, both human and animal, etc.So, personally, i dont buy the “parents” care more about the world
than nonparents. Its a mixed bag. Always has been.On the trump statement….I think Trump supporters will evaluate it as Trump being a bit humorous, shooting from the hip, just slamming Hillary, no big deal.
The pro-Hillary crowd will be all ‘outraged’…and the undecideds….will it matter to them?I dunno. My gut feeling is, George Will was right to point to the fact Americans dont elect ‘angry’ presidents. Now maybe things have changed in America, but it looks to me, like Hillary is the next President. We shall see.
Its all up the Undecideds-in-the-Swing-States. Noone else matters now.

July 28, 2016 at 8:03 am #49526Billy_TParticipantOn the trump statement….I think Trump supporters will evaluate it as Trump being a bit humorous, shooting from the hip, just slamming Hillary, no big deal.
The pro-Hillary crowd will be all ‘outraged’…and the undecideds….will it matter to them?WV, I think there’s another category: Leftists who can’t stand either of them, have already decided to vote for someone else, but still find Trump continuously appalling and despicable. Including his call for Russia to engage in espionage against his opponent.
We all dealt with eight years of Bush supporters calling the mere criticism of Bush policy “treason.” Just criticism of policy. Some 47 Republicans recently wrote a letter to the Iranian leadership telling them that even if the Iran deal goes through, they’d undermine it and a Republican president would repeal it. If the shoe were on the other foot, and Dems had done this to Bush?
And now Trump, at his presser, calls for foreign espionage. There is also the case that Trump has been cut off from most US and European banks, and has to go to Russia for his cash. He’s personna non grata because he’s known to stiff his business partners, clients, customers, etc. etc. Six bankruptcies to his name already. What average Joe or Jane keeps their shirt after six bankruptcies?
Yes, the Clintons are knee-deep in their own shenanigans. Definitely. But if someone wants a candidate without the heavy baggage of corruption and lies — it’s not the two major-party candidates.
July 28, 2016 at 8:46 am #49532bnwBlockedIt was stupid. And it was certainly reckless. But Trump just doesn’t feel that anything he says will matter. In some ways he has proven himself right on that. He leads Clinton right now.
It’s also partly the Democrats fault.
She’s a terrible candidate and yet the Democrats insisted on pushing her through–even with all of her baggage. Breaking the glass ceiling was all that mattered to some. Loyalty to Clinton mattered most to others.
Well–here it is: two of the most unpopular candidates in history. The Republicans behind the scenes must rally to save Trump(already I heard his VP come out today and say the exact opposite of one of Trump’s dumb comments) and Bernie has to try to save Clinton.
Neither candidate has done much to help themselves.
It’s the anti year vote. Vote AGAINST what you hate.
It’s that kind of year.
So fear will dominate this year.
Fear and hate.
That’s why this election year everyone feels sick.
I feel great. Finally in Trump a major candidate that gives his honest opinion unfiltered by focus groups and not spoon fed by teleprompters.
Trump has been using teleprompters as his “handlers” try to keep him on message–whatever it happens to be. So yeah–he’s being spoon fed.
And what is his honest opinion on–abortion? Should a woman face criminal penalties–as he said–or shouldn’t they–as he said after he got in trouble for saying the first thing? How about immigrants? Is it all Muslims? Is it just some? Which way is the wind blowing today?
If having a loud mouth is the sort of presidential quality you’re looking for–enjoy. Vote for it. The man isn’t even intellectually curious on any issue that doesn’t make him richer. Tim Kaine–governor of New Jersey? Really? He can’t handle the job of president which is why he’ll let Pence run most things and just play in the spotlight, letting his mouth get him in trouble with world leaders and such. He’s a disaster in waiting.
I get that you hate Clinton. But if Trump is the answer for that we’re in big trouble.
Any moron with a big mouth can get up and spout anything. It’s meaningless and it’s certainly not how to govern a nation.
You’re clueless about Trump and teleprompters. When he gives a policy speech sure he uses a teleprompter because he wants to make sure he gets all his points across. Otherwise he’s speaking extemporaneously to the audience and press. He’s comfortable with people whereas Hildabeast isn’t. Those who love their programmed fake politicians hate extemporaneity but Trump supporters love it. Certainly mistakes can and will be made by doing so, but so what?
I know he wants to fund Planned Parenthood. As for anything specific regarding abortion I don’t know other than he’s campaigning as pro life. He does not support criminal charges for women getting an abortion. His comment was not thought out but was in response to the breaking of a law which he responded with punishment, an excellent example of speaking extemporaneously biting one in the butt.
Legal immigration is a must. All refugees from ISIS war torn areas must be settled in no fly zones in that part of the world. Muslim immigrants as all other immigrants to the US must be fully vetted to the satisfaction of the US security apparatus rather than a political pass that threatens the safety of US citizens at home. Illegal immigration will be curtailed as much as possible, the possible including a wall on the border with Mexico for a start.
He may not have known what state Kaine was from but unlike Obama he knows there are 50 states in the Union.
I get that you do not like his style. However many people do like his style. Obama is not the example of how to run a nation. Race relations are in the toilet and that is squarely upon Obama’s bony shoulders.
Yes many people hate Hildabeast for her lack of conviction on any issue when given an opportunity for personal enrichment, her being above the law and flaunting it in the face of law abiding citizens whether refusing to ‘find’ Rose Law Firm records that were outside her White House bedroom door until the day the statute of limitations ran out to her personal email farce as Sec. of State that confirmed both the FBI director and the Attorney General are lap dogs of the Clintons.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.
