“People don’t realize the stress of the job and how brutal it is. We had four HC’s go to the hospital this season. That gives you a sense. Plus, Bill Cowher told me it’s lonely at the top. As the HC, you don’t have the same relationship with your players and assistant coaches. That causes stress. Then you have the wins and losses, the GM questioning what you’re doing, the media questioning what you’re doing, off the field issues, and more. There’s no time to recover from it anymore either. There’s no offseason anymore, and that’s why you don’t see guys like Cowher, Gruden, and others coming out of retirement for these jobs.”

Well… a five million-dollar-a-year sports-job is not what I would call ‘stressful’. But people have their own views about these things.

I’m sure the money helps, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t be stressful. Expectations are high and the job requires a lot of hours.

It is true that they do not need to be concerned where they are getting their food for that day.

Humans are interesting creatures and stress is a difficult topic to understand.
