Another outstanding thread with a series of links by the foremost writer on these topics.

First, note that NYT cherry picks what "crime" it talks about. It's ignoring wage theft. Tax evasion. Fraud. All orders of magnitude more harmful. Ignoring air/water pollution, sexual assault, millions of police/jail guard assaults. Only some crime by some people makes it to NYT.
